After watching several games last week and this game tonight I think IMO that the four umpire system adds nothing to the quality of umpiring in games. And I might be wrong but I was under the impression that one of the umps was now supposed to be consistently placed on the boundary side of a contest so they would have a view on both sides of a contest and not miss an infringement. Not sure that is happening that much.

Not worthy of the rant thread just an observation.

Ha, no. How many “away” games do you get your home ground of Marvel?

We get one “Non” home game at Adelaide oval per year…..
All games between two Melbourne clubs are essentially at a neutral venue, which balances out, so I don't really get your point.

But to put it another way, why do Adelaide and Port get an extra home game over every other side including other non Victorian clubs? Gather Round is a nice idea, but it makes an already unfair fixture even more of a farce.

Now the problem for Dawson/Laird VC people is, the score you're getting off your bench, to lock in the donut as C.
My wife has Laird VC
Cowan (42) E on the Def bench, no good.
Hollands (64) E on the Mid bench. To lock it in, it means benching Mackenzie. If Mackenzie goes 90, and he could with Day out and a potential role change, you are giving up 26 points, to lock in 134. That seems disadvantageous.
Chandler (YTP) on the Fwd bench. But the decision on Hollands needs to be made before Chandler plays, as Davey is the donut.

So, locking in Lairds 135 means either:
Locking in Hollands 65, and hoping Mackenzie doesn't go big.
Or
Ignoring Hollands, and hoping Chandler (and Mackenzie) goes well enough as you've locked his score in over Hawthorn's Greene.

Will probably do the 2nd one. Prolly.

Grabbing Saad in round 5 only for him to score below 100 for the first time this season will hurt more than everything else I've had to endure so far (Gawn, DCam, Doch, Laird 50).

I'm steering clear of Saad, based on my poor luck alone lol.
Oh my god. I would have been seething had I gone Doch > Saad. 86, and first game below 100. Thank all things holy

Bit unfair that Carlton and whoever is playing the Power have an extra actual away game for the season whilst everyone else is just playing at neutral venues. Should have been the showdown this week.
Adelaide play 13 times this season in Adelaide, Carlton 17 games in Melbourne. Who's got the advantage? Not just this season, every season Carlton (and Melbourne clubs) travel less.

I've never considered Marvel neutral for Melbourne.
At one stage we won something 1 game in 30 there.

Victorian teams have a massive advantage every year with a massive stretch of games at home, all the interstate clubs are are on the road almost every other week. The travel component is huge, especially for the West Australian clubs.

God forbid the AFL want to put together a festival of footy to grow the game outside of Victoria. Hopefully they do it in WA next. And never in Victoria.
