JVR to fix Dees’ forward woes

An untried young talent and an injury-prone veteran are giving Melbourne hope that it can overcome the key forward issues that partly derailed its premiership defence this year.

Track watchers have noted the solid pre-season form of Jacob Van Rooyen, who is yet to play a senior game but came so close last season, and premiership forward Tom McDonald, who only managed nine games in 2023 due to injury.

The Demons struggled to get bang for their buck when going forward last season, with their forward mix an endless source of debate.

With Sam Weideman traded to Essendon and Luke Jackson finding a new home at Fremantle, the Demons are certain to give Van Rooyen a chance to finally debut early in the year.

On my fwd bench currently 😎

Highly talented WA kid, rate him.
Dees fans last season were wanting this bloke to replace Brown, got some big wraps on him.

Has a body type which will look like he blows out without full training maintenance. I'm not concerned. However, he isn't the future of our backline. Thomas maybe a good swap for him.
Speaking of the future of Norths backline, Josh Goater - hearing some very positive things about him, looked good in the game he played at the end of last season. 192K defender, do you think he will be in the best 22 round 1?

Is Aaron Hall fit at this stage do we know? Be interesting to see if the new coach uses him the same coming out of defence, he’s priced below what he shown he can produce.
I’d be bloody surprised if Clarko let him run around all game without going within 10m of an opponent like he has been the last couple years.

He is certainly an option as the 6th/7th defender. Obviously, with a new coach, there are no guaranted games for anyone.

How everyone works off, and with, McKay and Logue will determine the back 6/7 make up.

The expected teams published recently will be quite different for teams like North.

Currently locked in as my D5. Real shame he played round 23 last season, jacked up his price by $70k.

Which North rookies do you expect to be playing early on? I think Wardlaw they're going to take it a bit easy with him because of of hamstring injuries, Sheezel I think will play but it's a really tough role to score well in and his price is higher than blokes like Toby McLean. Read that Drury has been impressive, $102k, any chance of him breaking into their side early on? Will Phillips seems to be pretty talked up as well.

Phillips and Sheezel, seem to have positions open to them. Others will need to displace the incumbents.

Melbourne superstar Clayton Oliver has undergone surgery on his thumb to fix a niggling problem in his right hand.
The Demons on Wednesday confirmed Oliver, 25, had gone under the knife to get on top of a minor issue which had been bothering him in recent weeks.

The injury is expected to fully heal over the next few weeks, allowing Oliver to return to full training when his teammates come back from their Christmas break next month.

The thumb surgery isn’t expected to have a major impact on his preparation for the new season as the Demons attempt to bounce back from their straight sets exit in last year’s finals series.

Hmmm 🤔
Is this the same thumb he injured against the cats and wasn’t quite the same towards the end of the season?

I can already hear his hammies rebeling.

With all the first round picks and favours given to the Roos, its time to move hall out to pasture.
