Would you field DreRuss or Axar (playing each other)?

I feel like players like DreRuss sometimes don’t get as much opportunity playing a weak team, because they’re not needed. It’s just a feeling though!

Can you wait for the toss?

I'm trying to think less in terms of weak and strong teams, and more in terms of game style. KKR and Delhi have, along with SRH, the most explosive batting lineups going around, so we can expect the team that bats first is going to get a lot of runs.

Russell's bowling role is greatly diminished this year so although he has had one or two handy days with the ball, it makes sense to think of his role as a batter. Batting wise you're more likely to get a score out of him in the first innings: he will simply come in at a certain time in the innings rather than at a specific position. (For what it's worth, check out the list of leading SR this year... In a normal year Russell's 185 is excellent but this year it looks positively mortal!)

Basically if KKR are chasing I'd look at benching him. Axar is tricky because I don't really rate his batting or bowling roles but he gets so many catches that he can often scramble his way to a score!

Very helpful, thank you.

Sleep is at a premium at the moment, so I probably won’t be able to wait for the toss, but if my little one decides he’s keen to hear who’s batting, I might choose on this basis 🙂

Have the same dilemma and I’m taking this approach. Whoever bats first will be on field.

Don’t think Axar is hugely impacted by the toss, but I’m much more comfortable fielding Russell when he’s batting first as that’s where the majority of his points come from. If KKR are chasing and look like getting there relatively easily, they tend to send in the more correct and technical batsmen as opposed to Russell. When batting first, if KKR lose a wicket anywhere from around over 14 onwards, they like to send in Russell no matter the circumstances.

I have been tossing it around in my head all day, but I think that I am going to use a boost to bring Salt in. If my calcs are correct he has a negative BE and I was planning to use a boost next round and he was one of my targets anyway. May as well save some cash by boosting a round earlier. Same net result of trade use over the two rounds.

I would also expect his BE to be negative, in the order of -20. Your trade plan makes sense to me.

I've got him about -12, yeah. Delhi's powerplay bowling isn't too bad though, Cricinfo preview suggests Khaleel has a pretty good record against most of the KKR top order...
