ROUND 3 VICE CAPTAIN OPTIONS
Caleb Serong
What a hot start! He was in and out of team all preseason, massive FOMO! He has started with 170 and 141! Crows have given up some big points to opposition midfielders this season, including four Sun’s players went 155, 137, 129 and 128 in Rond 1. The kid is averaging 41 disposals at 79% (18 contested), 7 tackles, 9 clearances and averaging 155.5 SuperCoach points. Get keep riding this form!
Zach Merrett
Zach Merrett has started the season in red hot form. He led from the front against the Hawks in round 1, racking up 31 disposals at 77%, attended 25 CBAs, played 87% TOG and finished on 127 points. He then backed it up with against the Swans with 32 disposals at 81%, attended 29 CBAs and 2 goals finishing on 132 points. His history isn’t amazing against the Saints but sometimes you just have to ride that form until things change. He is only in 8% of teams and could be a great VC option.
Jack Steele
What a Steal he has been! Can he keep this form up? I think so! My prediction preseason was an average of 120 and he is currently averaging 119.5 SuperCoach points. Averaging 25.5 disposals at 84.3% and back to being a tackling beast, averaging 9 a game. Although neither of his scores have been monstrous this season, this could be the game. He has missed the last 2 encounters against the Bombers due to injury but 2 of his last 4 games against the Bombers he has scored 132 and 128.
Zac Butters
Is there a tougher player in the competition? With such a light frame, I just love the way that Butters attacks the footy. Butters showed no signs of his ankle issue in Round 1 hitting the scoreboard with a goal, 27 disposals and scoring 117 points. One observation I did make was he only had 2 tackles. If he lifts that to 6 or 8 thats when we will see his score increase. He followed it up with a phenomenal game against the Tigers. Once again his tackle count was low but in the game of SuperCoach if you have 34 disposals (14 contested) at 85% and kick a goal you are always going to score well and he finished on 175 points. He looks to be my VC option this week against the Dees as last time he matched up against them he punched out a 184 points with 41 disposals and 2 goals.
ROUND 3 CAPTAIN OPTIONS
Marcus Bontempelli
Well, here we are again. He will feature every week in this article and its purely because I believe if you captain him every week you’ll probably end up better of than trying the crack the code each week… He is an absolute contested beast and has kicked 3 goals over the last 2 rounds. This is a match up that he loves, the undermanned Eagles. I expect him to take advantage of English’s ruck craft. Bont has a career average of 115 against the Eagles and his last 4 outings he averages 149 points. He will be my captain choice this week if Butters fails.
Tim English
After not seeing too much of him in the preseason, he has had a very constant start, scoring 119 and 138 . I think that if you have a premo ruck matched up against the Eagles then you need to try and VC or C them with the inexperienced ruck stock they currently have. So far this season Soldo scored 125 and Briggs went 139. If that is any sign of things to come this week, I think he nearly has to be pick of the round!
Erol Gulden
Errol seems to be slowly building his season starting with a 77 SuperCoach points, then 109 and finishing on 149 last week against the Bombers. He finished the game with 24 disposal at 79%, 5 tackles and 2 goals. One thing that is elite with Gulden is his kicking and the swans love to use him. He is 6th for inside 50s in the comp and 3rd for kicks in the league. With the Tigers giving up some huge scores to mids this season including Butters 175, Drew 144, Cripps 135, Rowell 137 and Flanders 124. He seems like a nice Sunday pick!
Isaac Heeney
How stoked you must be if you started Isaac! He is on absolute fire! He has a highest score of 144, a lowest of 128 and a season average of 132 SuperCoach points. As I said above Richmond have given out some serious scores to their opposition and with the form that this fella is in I don’t think I need to do much more persuading! Nothing like waiting until Sunday 4.00pm to watch your captain play….
P.O.D CAPTAIN:
Luke Ryan
This guy can no longer be ignored. I understand it’s a little left field but Ryan has shown he is a model of consistency. He is averaging 28 disposals at a crazy 92.9%, 588 meters gained a game, 8 kick-ins a game and averaging 146 SuperCoach points. Last week against North Melbourne he went at 100% efficiency! He is only 5% of teams and if I owned I’d give him the VC!
