All this talk of taggers, no team seems to tag Ryan or Heeney. No idea who to vc/c.
I think of the Fremantle guys Clark is a bit more dangerous. Ryan for all his stats doesn’t really do a heap of damage to teams, and is predictable enough that they probably don’t feel the need to shut it down and bring the unknown. Clark is one who gets a little further up the ground and probably moves the ball deeper.
No idea on Heeney though!

Potentially should be posting this in the player X versus Y discussion….but will share on here too…
Considering a sideways move of Stewart, Oliver or just upgrading Sexton …
What would you suggest is best course of action? As we know Sexton could be replaced in role by Powell, however has best form of all 3.
Stewart has the poorest form….would be bringing in Zorko for any of these…

Thoughts?

p.s. have 17 playing before trades…including needing Sullivan, Daicos, Bont to play…

I saw a Tweet with a comment from Ryan that Clark has been getting the tag. Not sure if it indicates Ryan may be at risk of getting it in the future.
I don’t think he’s a player that the tag will really affect. He gets most of his scores from kick ins and picking up the switch as the last man in defence then kicking long and forward. The occasional spoil and intercept. Possessions in the defensive half are also weighted more than those in the midfield.

Not really the play maker type.

I didn’t really used to follow him until I owned him but he has the solved the matrix in terms of the perfect way to score in SC as a defender.

Round 14 VC/C SuperCoach picks: Two players included for the first time! - Honeyball

Round 14 VC/C SuperCoach picks: Two players included for the first time!

ROUND 14 VICE CAPTAINS

Josh Dunkley
I’ve gone with Dunks over Neale here just because the way Neale has been dominating, I’m expecting the tag to come his way. I have had Dunks in a few write ups of late but he has been going slightly unders. He threatened last week with 10 disposals and a goal in the first quarter but didn’t finish off strong enough. Over his last 6 games against the Saints he has an average of 116.3 SuperCoach points and his last two games at the Gabba he has scored 163 and 115. Saints rank 10th for midfield opposition scoring and I expect a solid game.

Luke Ryan
Fremantle have the highest disposals a game and also the best disposal efficiency in the league of any team. I expect that these stats are inflated by how often they try and chip it around in defence to try and cut through the oppositions zone. It seems that every exit from D50 involves a few chip kicks which are generally completed without any pressure because the team is already moved into their defensive zone. Luke Ryan and Jordan Clark are the beneficiaries of this game plan and they kick it to each other the most out of any two players in the league. So far this season, Ryan has played at Marvel twice and has scored 127 and 122. Marvel does tend to favour half backs and with Western Bulldogs being Ryan’s 3rd best career average, He will more than likely getting the VC for Yeah Na Cheers.

Marcus Bontempelli
Bont was tagged last week which limited his clearance work but a ‘quiet’ game for Bont was still 19 disposals and 3 goals. This season Bont has played at Marvel 7 times and is averaging 124 and last year pumped out 182 in Round 6 against Fremantle. This guy is always a safe pick.

Tim English
Tim has not featured this season in my write ups but he does enjoy the match up of Fremantle. Over 14 games he averages 110.3 SuperCoach points and his last 3 games he has scored 134, 131 and 127. Besides the recent anomaly of Gawn’s 95, some recent ruck scores against Fremantle have been 128 (Cameron) and 169 (Marshall). I quite like this match up.

ROUND 14 CAPTAINS

Isaac Heeney
The Sydney midfield is pretty much unstoppable at the moment. In the past 5 games between Heeney, Warner and Gulden they have kicked 22 goals. This is what is making Sydney so hard to stop! Out of the 3 mentioned, Heeney has the best record against the Crows with them being his best career average match up averaging 103 SuperCoach points over 9 games. His last 4 games against the Crows he is averaging bang on 120. I don’t think the Crows have the cattle to stop this trio and I like Heeney as a pick.

Nick Daicos
Nick was tagged out of the game on the weekend and then was subbed out with a corked shin. The report is good and looks fine to go around this week. This season I have tried to find the key midfielder each week in the opposing team to North Melbourne as they are the 3rd easiest team for midfielders to score against. Over the last 2 months of footy the highest scorer has been a midfielder with some scorers including Yeo 127, Boak 133, Miller 122, Sinclair 134 and Laird 149. He’s a star, so just pick him.

ROUND 14 POD CAPTAIN

Zac Fisher
Here is a little left field option for the week. I expect Collingwood to dominate the game which will result in plenty of kick-ins and the ball in the defensive area. Collingwood have kicked the 4th most behinds of any team this season which plays into Fisher’s hands with his last 3 games having 10, 9 and 8 kick-ins. To back all this up, Collingwood are the 4th easiest team to score against for defenders with some recent defenders going 132, 134, 132, 124, 141, 148, 146 and 141 since their bye in Round 5, I am really tempted by this match up!

CASEY’S CAPTAIN CONFIDENCE RATING:

Vice Captains:
  1. Luke Ryan
  2. Marcus Bontempelli
  3. Tim English
Captains:
  1. Zac Fisher
  2. Nick Daicos
  3. Isaac Heeney

"Speakin to reporters on Friday morning ahead of Saturday’s game with Fremantle, Beveridge said about Bontempelli: “Yeah he has been ill. He was crook a couple of weeks ago too, before the Collingwood game and he came out and played an extremely influential game.

“He hasn’t trained with the group this week. He comes in today, it’s a pretty early game tomorrow, so we’ll hardly do anything at our captain’s run. He’s had a different preparation. As you’re aware and what you can understand with him, it’ll take something pretty significant to stop him from playing. But hopefully he’s not affected by it too much but there’s no doubt he will a little bit.”

Beveridge was asked about Rory Lobb’s status, following an ankle injury but said he’d “definitely playing”. He also said second-year player Jedd Busslinger was “tracking in the right direction” but not yet ready to debut, despite being named an emergency.
