Unsustainable start to the season for a player not noted as a high possession winner nor who impacts the scoreboard regularly as well as offering little contribution around the ground in terms of marks, etc. Strengths are his contested possessions and tackles which limits his ceiling in terms of overall average and thus the type of player best suited to be purchased below $500,000 or in the low to mid $500,000 range for a short period of time rather than being selected at peak price chasing lost points over the long term.

Opened with 25 or more disposals in the first four matches compared to only six in 2023 and twice in 2022. Contested possession rate of approx 70% in those matches are unsustainable over the length of the season if he was to also up his disposal average again. Not overly effective by foot and if his key is extraction and spread to others from the contest then it is not likely to improve unless he is more involved around the ground.

Best to temper and set realistic expectations when chasing players over $600k given the likelihood of receiving a poor return on investment relative to cheaper options throughout the season and the impact it has on funds allocation and upgrades.
Agreed, was never expecting him to maintain a 130 average, but he is averaging 70 over his last 6 rounds, absolute filth. And players improve he age wise should absolutely be improving on his bell curve, if you don't select players of his age bracket just because they haven't killed it in previous years you would never do well at SC. Agreed a 4 week purple you shouldn't go near a player at top dollar, but i think if a player pumps out a 131 average with a lowest of 99 and a 2nd lowest of 126, that is normally much to long for it to just be a purple patch. I brought him in not expecting him to maintain 130+ but thought 115 for the remainder of the season was very reasonable given what he had shown across the first 7 weeks. Its so easy to be a captain hindsight after he absolutely stinks it up but IMO all signs (age, improving team, huge average for much longer than a purple patch, role etc etc) looked solid.

2373. Macrae's 8 wasn't very good. Dowling or frejah would have been better if i paid attention. Powell's 39 not very good. Butters c. The rest of the team was okay. Its just been a zig when I should have zagged year. Hopefully gawn comes back next week...finally got him a couple of weeks before injury.

2,312 all done with Neale C…
All that good work down the drain with a poor Captains score….Prior to 3 weeks ago my lowest captains score was 110…
since then 106, 78 and 78….
defensive line was sublime with scores of 138,106,144,121,99 and 96.
Forwards poor wearing Heeney 72, Fyfe 51 and Fisher 38 on field….
Hopefully Gawn is back next week…

With 40 trades this year, I'd say, when someone you think is going ok, or is going ok, then goes bad and starts scoring like crap, get rid of them....no need to hang on to hope of them finding it is whatever they lost, just get rid of em, and move on to someone else.
Just gotta be decisive and pull the trigger.

2,494 - Bont

Pretty good. Grundy and Heeney 72 each the lowest scores.

3 x 90’s that were 65-75 each at half time was a bit of a let down (Laird, N.Martin, Houston).

Ryan 99 and Jackson 96 were the only others under 100.

Took Logan Evans 110 as emergency via W.Dawson over Fisher and McKercher which was nice.

Was Fisher injured or just subbed? The AFL app said injured, but fanfooty does not mention an injury.
Don't think he was injured, was listening to it on the radio at the time he was subbed and they said he was "being sent to the back of the bench" didn't mention anything about injury. Maybe just management?

Serong 140 :cool:
Sheezel 138 :cool:
Zorko 129 :D
Curnow 106 :)
Ryan 99 :(
LDU 97 :(
Jackson E 96 :)
McKercher 94 :confused:
Heeney 72 :poop:
Grundy 72 :poop::poop:
Dunkley 69 :poop::poop::poop:

Probably the most unlucky round I’ve had since I took SC seriously. 10 tons, the only ones who would have some kind of relevance in the overall standings were Rozee (113) and Curnow (106). Dale 99, LDU 97, Houston 96, McKercher 94, Butters C 89, Grundy 72, Holmes 71, Dunkley 69, Nank 58.

My ruck combo of Grundy and Nank combined scored 130. English outscored that by himself. Marshall scored 123, Xerri scored 109.

Captaincy and loop wise I didn’t do terribly. Butters was horrible but not many captain options did a whole lot better. Obviously if Green scored a few more I would’ve taken but I’ll always gamble a 117. Went McKercher over Daicos’ 106. Just wanted to try something because everything that seemed rational wasn’t working. Probably would’ve beaten 106 if he didn’t get the Cincotta tag for half the game. Took Jackson with 53 + a half to go (96 in the end) over Fisher which was a huge success. Would’ve scored 2244 if I went Fisher.

Hoping I can stay within the top 150. One of those weeks. Move on and hope for a better result in the next 5 rounds.
Only dropped 47 spots to 118th in the end. I guess the ownerships of Neale/Dunkley/Grundy/Nank are reasonably high in the top end in comparison to the average player dragging down the par score.

Did you do the maths before you brought him in? After his first 7 games he had scored 917 SC points. Even if he were to ave 115 for the season that would have seen him ave 108 for the remaining 16 games. But I read your expectations were 115 ave for the remainder of the season. That puts him scoring a season total of 2757 at a season ave of 119. In 2023 only Bont, English and Oliver scored more than 119 ave. I am not sure why you would have not considered how a guy who has never ave more that 102 was suddenly in that kind of class. Or at least considered that maybe there was considerable downside risk to the idea of him ave 119 for the year. Totally agree his recent form is horrid. Even if he were to hit his 2023 ave of 102, his ave post rd 7 should be 89 while he currently sits at 83.

Numbers can be deceptive but to quote the X Files "the truth is out there".
