Following too close at this time of year can lead to locking in rookies that are less viable than you think.
If I had to compile a list of the best rookies, based on JS, role and price, then E Hewett would have been top of that list.

And today he is the B team for match sim.
it’s great to spend a lot of time this time of the year playing with your side, but it’s almost like when R1 comes, we wipe it completely and rethink everything. The more we play with it now, perhaps we become too committed to structure and players.

Could be the year of the higher rookie priced mids that have been in the system for multiple years over the first year mids.

NOD, Tsatas and Sharp over the likes of Jagga, Draper and Ashcroft perhaps?
I agree mate, did like the look of Ashcroft though. I think he can score well. Looked like he had a pretty decent role of hb/wing...?

Looked good when he came on but concerning that he didn’t feature in the stronger team.

Going to be hard to get a round 1 spot in a premiership winning team.

NOD has history and injury discount.

Tsatas - is he 4th banana, will he have the role? feels more question marks

Sharp - wing role. as long as not a 3 way sharing role list last year (Windsor ave 55 at that point), should be like NOD and a 70 player, hopefully 5-10pts upside.

Jagga -- an accumulator

Draper - talent, endurance and speed, yet coach sounding Luke warm, lots of mids in the team, is he a sub risk?

Ashcroft - hard to pick, not going to get mid time, fwd could be average yet on HB he could be good.

I just had a scroll through the sub 120k defenders and I count just one player that is a very good chance of playing round one in Z Reid.

El-Hawli is a decent chance, then the next price point is Bo Allan at 136k who is a very good chance and then C O’Sullivan who is a decent chance at 148.7k.

I don’t see any other defenders less than 150k that are even a decent chance.

You have those 4 rookies in defence then pretty much nothing under mills.... I'm considering loading up in defence. Shez, NWM, Holmes, Rivers, Mills, O'Sullivan. Bench Allan and Reid. My current Defence.

Swap O’Sullivan for Leake & that’s my current defence 😂

Certainly O'Sullivan, Reid, Allan & El-Hawli as you mentioned.

I expect Paton would be there but not sure Cunningham's injury status.

Busslinger as Shannon mentioned a chance, not sure if Jepson could scrape 3rd winger for Suns, but from memory it would be him or Farrar anyway (Weller and Clohesy the main wingers)

Matt Carroll looked good today for Carlton but may just be keeping Boyd's spot in the team warm.

Expect we will be fine, especially with some surprise injuries over the next fortnight.

I don’t think there’s room for Paton even without Cunningham. An outside chance for mine.

Both the Suns players you mentioned played for the weaker team against Collingwood. There were a lot of best 22 players missing from the GC squad that played the round robin too so I think they are next to no chance.

Carroll would appear unlikely at this stage.

At this point in time I’m expecting three or four defenders under 150k named for round 1.

Is James Leake (GWS) a chance? I seem to recall reading one of the NewsCorp SC articles that mentioned him doing well, second season in the league, didn’t play last year.

Edit, found a source online:

“Has captured the attention of Giants and SuperCoach coaches alike this pre-season with a strong summer. Leake could take over Harry Perryman or James Peatling’s roles this year given his versatility. Averaged 27 touches and 113 SuperCoach points through a six-match period in the VFL after overcoming injury. Track closely over pre-season practice matches and consider strongly.”

Came on halfway through the last qtr against Sydney so appears to be a low chance at this stage.
