With Coleman/Doedee news have switched to a two def rookie onfield setup with Mills at D4. He and Holmes have been mainstays in most of my setups. Sheezel as well but entertaining options without him for those other two onfield positions and have yet to take byes into consideration.

Did not understand those wasting multiple midfield spots last season on N Martin and K Amon given their lack of ceiling relative to other midfielders and taking up a valuable premium spot in one of the higher scoring lines in the hope they would receive dual position status with a high likelihood that a trade was required. In saying that, I have been looking at starting the likes of O Hollands and I Cumming in the midfield and then switching down back after the first dual position announcements, if they receive dual position status.
Starting Martin turned out to be extremely successful though , from memory he was less than $ 500k.

Looking at last season's numbers he was 6th on aggregate for D eligible players.

I guess it all comes down to where/who people started on other lines at comparative prices though.

Interested in what everyone is doing with their backline now that we know Flanders isn't training much due to back complaint, Sinclair may have just done his hamstring (could still play round 1 but not ideal), and Sheezel may be playing more FWD than we would like (could just be trying out scenarios in training). Certainly throws a spanner in the works, and could make defences look a lot different to what they were looking like a week ago.
Waiting to see what rookies we get.

Think I could have a Sheezel v Bont/Butters v Xerri decision to make (but struggling with alternative ruck options)

Like Clarke , Houston (early Bye 🤔) , NWM as a possible alternative D1 option.

Waiting for updates on Sinclair.

See what Geelong do with SDK.

Mills locked.

Schoenmaker , Milera (if his body holds) & Sinn (depending on how "real" the talk out of Port is) could all be mid priced options.

Have a few others written down as well.

Lots to play out yet.

Cumming won't get DPP if he plays on the wing.

Don't they need to start winning games and pushing towards the finals ?

Put your most creative player attacking forward of centre he almost becomes the most damaging player in the game

Sheezel could be awesome in and around F50.

Put the busy bees in defence to do the grunt work.

Daniel , McKercher etc can do the leg work in defence.

Daniel gets back to his absolute best he is a kicking weapon.

He might :p

He'll be in our first choice mid rotation, so I think his SC floor will still be fairly high. But his secondary position will be forward of the ball rather than behind it: over a 5 or 6 round period last year he led the league for score involvements. That's as a 19yo playing in the bottom side. We need his skills and creativity up the ground as much as possible!

Sheezel was drafted as a forward - the below is from Rookie Me.

Given how many other gun young midfielders they have, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him played more forward over time.

SNAPSHOT: “Arguably the best performed forward in this year’s draft crop, Sheezel has consistently impressed at all levels of football with his elite forward craft and goal sense.”

I like the thought of Sheezel becoming a Def/Fwd in the future.

So right.

It might take North doing a bit of a Hawthorn and finally stringing some wins together for the football world to see how good he is.
The football world AFL already know he is a superstar. Will find the sherrin what ever position he plays.

But he will miss those cheap 6 point plays across HB so i will not be starting him.

Inspired by this tweet thought I'd do some deep diving around the benefit of the kick in role for Supercoach in 2024.

View: https://twitter.com/fantasynut_afl/status/1888430179196063978

So I included the top 2 total kick in players from each club as well as any other who had more than 50 kick ins for the year. Also note I used the SC adjusted average as provided on the DFS website which takes out any injured or sub affected scores. And of course got all my data from th wonderful DFS website.

The average Supercoach average for all of the top kick in players from each team was 95.5. Taking this further any player that had more than 100 kick ins for their club had an average of 107.1 which highlights the importance of the role for Supercoach scoring. There were 6 players in this category (Zorko, Ryan, Whitfield, Blakey, Dale, McGovern).

Another interesting point was the average of the 40 qualifying players for my data set was 92.0 which is a fairly high number considering some of the names on the list.

Thought I'd go through the top 20 priced defenders to start this season to further highlight this when thinking you might find someone who will break out into the top echelon as to how important the role is;

Flanders - #2 KI player overall for GCS. #1 from round 5 to 15. 31% CBA usage over the year.
Sheezel - #3 KI player overall for NM. #1 from round 1 to 7. 31% CBA usage over the year.
Ryan - #1 KI player for Freo with 149.
Whitfield - #1 KI player for GWS with 159.
Zorko - #1 KI player for Bris with 111.
McGovern - #1 KI player for WCE with 117.
Sinclair - #2 KI player for StK with 65. 30% CBA usage over the year.
Houston - #2 KI player for PtA with 80.
Martin - #3 KI player for Ess with 35. #1 from round 1 to 8.
Clark - #2 KI player for Freo with 49.
Ridley - #4 KI player for Ess with 24. #1 from round 11 to 10.
Newman - #2 KI player for Car with 64.
Wanganeen-Milera - #1 KI player for StK with 91.
Holmes - #5 KI player for Gee with 20. 32% CBA usage over the year.
Sicily - #3 KI player for Haw with 42.
Dale - #1 KI player for WBD with 102.
Blakey - #1 KI player for Syd with 108
Stewart - #1 KI player for Gee with 68.
McGrath #1 KI player for Ess with 74.
Hinge - #2 KI player Ade with 73.

Not sure if this tells us anything we don't know but feel as though a move to half back without the corresponding usage in kick ins might not be enough to challenge that top 6.

Just had a quick look through last years kick in stats to see if there are opportunities.
Definitely a void at Carlton with Newman going down.
JDaicos avg 100 over the last 6 games with moderate kick ins. Although unlikely to get past Moore and Howe.
Opportunity at Gold Coast as Will Powell was the only constant throughout the year.
Geelong was a mixed bag once Stewart got moved around. Does he return to the role?
McKercher feasted on some big kick in numbers. Daniel and maybe even a second choice could do well.
Farrell, Houston and Burton were in a 3 way share at the start of the year so unlikely any 1 person benefits a lot from Houston moving.
Short and Vlastuin were already the main two. Rioli leaving shouldn't change much.
NWM, Bonner and Sinclair were in a 3 way share. Schoenmaker got some when he played. With Bonner leaving and Sinclair maybe moving into the middle, there would have to be a watch on Schoenmaker at his price.
Matt Roberts at Sydney. Nuff said.

Carlton kick in stats from last year :-

Screen Shot 2025-02-11 at 1.01.18 pm.png

Saad the obvious one that may get an uptick in volume, here is his SC history :-

Screen Shot 2025-02-11 at 1.02.59 pm.png

2022 season the one that caught my eye so checked the kick in stats for that year :-

Scores for each round that year :-

The other factor is he has the dreaded round 12 bye which makes it quite difficult to pick him with other premiums on that bye that I am personally more confident in.
