Should have gone Evenpoel in both.
Tarling mechanical cost him.
I thought Remco would be the popular pick, I had him winning this from months out. Decided to go for what I thought would be the more unique option in Tarling, but got that wrong. Not sure why I switched. I locked in my picks for both races before my first reminder about a week back, but after seeing the women's race wanted to change back to Remco as I thought he would be a bit better rider in trickier conditions.

Tarling's mechanical probably did cost him a medal, finishing within 2s of bronze, but I think he would have got silver at best.

Didn't see what happened to Plapp on the coverage, but hopefully he is OK. He was top 5 at the first time check, but must have crashed before the second.

Thanks. Not good for our chances in the road race, thought Matthews was some chance of a medal, but he will only have one team mate now. Limits things, guess he just has to try to stick close to the favourites and hope he can out sprint them to the line, rely on other teams to handle the other breaks and refuse to work chasing them down.

Getting in the break is the way to go imo. No radios, tiny teams. Screams breakaway winner. Last four winners have been break, can't remember before then. Sanchez, Vino, GVA, Carapaz.

Everyone will expect the Dutch and Belgians to pull all day for MVDP and Wout.

If I'm Belgium, I'm getting someone in the break and not pulling for anyone.

Pidcock defended his mountain bike gold last night, it was a fantastic race. He had a mechanical halfway through so had to fight back and then just broke away (aided by some physical contact) in the last km.
Missed the last three laps, but was a bit surprised when I saw the results this morning that he had caught back up after the wheel change, as he was about 40s behind. I know Pidcock is very good at the event, but I thought Koretzky would have held on for the gold. Might try and catch the last part of the race tonight.

Friendly reminder for road race entries for those yet to submit. Got a few days still, but it'll be easy to forget with so many other good events on.

Sounds like Ben O'Connor is replacing Plapp

That team not having Ben, Vine, Haig, Hindley ****s me. At least get them early before they become big names, where is the development program or local scouting?

Breakaway of Morocco, Mauritius, Thailand, Uganda and Rwanda. I would like to see the medals coming from that group. :)

(It won't happen).
