Interesting signing. He seems to average 22 in T20Is with half a dismissal per game. Doesn’t seem that compelling to me quality-wise, and I don’t think he’d be a major crowd puller ... might as well just play the likes of Dunk?

Ie I’m not sure why you’d go to the trouble of signing an international replacement unless they were improving the quality of whoever they replace in your XI? I guess you never know who’s going to get injured etc.
But it's all about the Calypso flavour 😀

Looks like he was recalled for the NZ T20 series because the likes of Gayle , Lewis & Simmons were unavailable.

46 , 42 & 39 in the CPL certainly doesn't scream pick me

a century in the BPL though

25 LOI & 45 T20I'S I suspect we might see a cameo or 2 just to tease

Seems a case of trying to find whoever left is available , sign them up

Wait and see if he is selected for the Bangladesh series.

Hope they made a call to the England T20 captain 🤔

Played 3 T20Is recently off the back of a CPL where he got 211 runs with a 127 SR. Before that series his last game was 2018 so the stats are a bit misleading.

I suspect that’s right - not necessarily an easy task to get these signings right. You want someone good enough to be quality accretive, but not so good as to be called up to a national squad at potentially the peak of the cricketing year. And they have to be able to get here and complete quarantine on a useful timeframe - admittedly it wouldn’t be easy.

If the Fletchers of the world aren’t getting paid a fortune, then maybe it’s worth it to add some “sense” of quality to the comp (rightly or wrongly). It’s probably better for the Aus cricket system to just get another youngster in the XI, but perhaps less so for the spectators/squad dynamics etc.

Good colour, thanks. There’s always the “risk” of career stats being a bit misleading, although they’re the ones that are easiest to hand. He’s 33, so a late career breakout is probably unlikely, but if he can average 32 instead of 22 with the bat, that could change things a lot from a BBL and fantasy appeal perspective.

One day CA might wake up and realise.

Create a window free of International Cricket exactly like the IPL and attract the best OS players in the world to play + our own Australian players.

Maybe they need to play the BBL in Oct/Nov , not sure how that then affects the Shield comp though and Test preparation , maybe Boxing Day needs to be the first Test of the summer or shorten the comp and play it after the SCG test.

They have introduced this "marquee" OS signing rule but I still don't think it has improved the quality of OS players too much.

Like you said before now with Fletcher , Maxwell , Pooran , Stoinis only will leave 2 spots for Cartwright , Dunk , Gotch , Larkin , Maddinson , Pucovski etc etc

I am sure some believe you :p

Nice - Looks like a pretty strong team!

You have obviously planned out your trades to maximise on field points which I like. I have seen a few sides that look strong but could discover in Rounds 2 & 3 that they might be forced to leave more $ on the bench and maybe struggle to afford their on field targets.
Not confident in my Cartwright selection now with the news of the Fletcher signing , time for a readjustment 😀

Yeah he definitely wasn't able to run twos on a number of instances where they would have been clearly on for a fit batsman. Really unfortunate, one to monitor.

Also, the Stars have signed Andre Fletcher to replace Bairstow:
I wonder if he’s already in the country? Less than two weeks til games so no chance for Round 1 if he’s not already in quarantine.

I think I'd be signing as many WI or NZ players to fill in spots right now. No need to be quarantined from NZ.

And then when the WI players go to Bangladesh ?

Allen , Hetmyer , Pollard , Rutherford , Thomas etc should all be available for at least a 3-5 game stint though.

Didn't think NZ liked releasing too many of their players though as they prefer them to play in the Smash.

I'd be keen to see a few WI guys here for 3-5 games.
Haha, yes, NZ are a bit tight.
As for Bangladesh, they'll do what they'll do.
