Francis and I were just 11 points behind the top scoring team in our pool this round, yet we had the 5th highest score for the round out of the 8 teams in Pool C. Very evenly matched teams.

Losing by single digits sucks, yet our match was only the third closest one. You wouldn't expect that.

A bit more variance in this round, hope you were on the right end of it!

Highest individual score: @Beast_Mode (1015) - beating an entire team by himself!
Lowest individual score: @jel (309)
Highest team score: @Vicwood and @Beast_Mode (1828)
Lowest team score: @Trickee and @jel (913)
Highest losing score: @Woosie and @All is Wells (1551)

A very good round for SCS overall - this group has 33 players in the top 1000, 8 in the top 100, and no less than four coaches in the money, including the overall leader!

Two pool winners locked in, two more very much up for grabs!

POOL A
Technically still five teams can win this pool! Teams 1, 3 and 4 are all playing separate games so can all lose and open the door for teams 6 and 7. They would have to overhaul a big points differential but stranger things have happened!

POOL B
The same three teams remain in the running here, but Herbie and Pesci were very unlucky to run into the aptly-named Beast Mode this week. They will now have to win and claw back about 450 points.

POOL C
Pacifico and Tamuhawk are locked into pool 1 to play for the title - but check out the five teams on 3 wins behind them! Bomber18 and PNC were last in this pool as recently as two rounds ago!

POOL D
Miller is a Steele and I are also locked into pool 1, somehow remaining undefeated while the overall leader (!) sits in the second best scoring team with a 3-3 record! The top three in this pool all have a top five coach :eek:

Last round before playing for position - best of luck!

This was not the round for SC to open late - this round involves the most work on my end!

Some more fun stats:
Highest ranked second team: @mike89 (18th!)
Lowest ranked first team: @Old Big 'Ead (62nd!)
Best matched teams: @Ratzondix and @drisbel (-15 across the season to date!)
Closest two positions: @7/11 and @Darkie beating @nateful and @Aston by three points!

With how late open was I'll do the draw for round 8 in the morning. As per last season, though, you get matched with the other teams in the other pools that finished in the same position, sorted by total points scored, and 1v4 plays 2v3 in each of those groups.

So now we move on to the final rounds! Every team is now matched with the team in their equivalent position in the other pools. These look like this:
groups.PNG
Each of these are sorted by the total scores of the pairs, and with this arrangement, 1 plays 4, and 2 plays 3. So the semi finals for all the marbles in group 1 are:
@Miller is a Steele and @mike89 vs @tso and @Tails
@Vicwood and @Beast_Mode vs @Pacifico and @Tamuhawk
And so on in each of the groups. Those teams are playing for positions 1-4, group 2 play for 5-8, and so on.

Good luck everyone!

Back to back Group 8 finishes for me over the last two years. Nobody else has managed that impressive feat... :cry:

I honestly thought we'd had a reasonable season this time too, just shows how good everyone here is I guess!

Apologies to all my partners over the years, this competition is clearly not my speciality. Pretty sure I'd be near last in all other seasons prior to that as well if I looked back that far. There's a common factor in all the teams I have been in, and it's not whoever I get partnered with.

Good luck to everyone with your finals, and I guess we aim for fourth last Francis!

Honestly, pretty stiff I reckon. I thought you were doing a lot better. It's worth noting that both that pool was ridiculously close, and you were one of the closest matched pairs over the season (you were 27 points ahead of Francis).

One of the things I love about this comp is that it has a way of meeting both of the (somewhat contradictory) conditions that make a comp interesting: the cream generally rises to the top, but there's also enough jeopardy that any team can beat any other. Nobody went undefeated, nobody lost every round, and in two of the pools the winner wasn't clear until the very end!

Well I don't think I've ever seen this before. The final will be contested by not one, but TWO teams with a player in overall contention!

Stats roundup:
Highest individual score: @Beg2Differ (1387)
Lowest individual score: @Professor (478)
Highest team score: @Goodie's Guns and @Spots (2546)
Lowest team score: @Amazing Bombers and @Professor (1427)
Highest losing score: @Rowsus and @Chumpion (2338)
Smallest winning score: @THCLT and @toxic (1760)
Average (mean) of all teams: 1030
Average (median) of all teams: 1039
Biggest win: @Tex and @Damion23 (+561)
Smallest win: @avantgarde and @Old Big 'Ead (+20)
Best matched team: @avantgarde and @Old Big 'Ead (-18)

And the best stat of all:
Teams on the podium: three

@Beast_Mode 1st
@Miller is a Steele 2nd
@All is Wells 3rd

Some kind of finish coming up!
