If we win this Test, we retain Ashes. Maybe Painey says to himself, I am retiring, so no harm opening up for my last game of cricket as Warner and other muppets all failing anyway, Mitch Marsh could play and bat at 6 or 7 and Wade gets a test to see if he can keep...

who is your next captain then ? Cummins (rotation risk) or Head (not guaranteed yet) until they give it back to Smith ?
Wade couldn't keep win they selected him as a keeper beforehand, what has changed now ?
We are very fortunate that England's batting lineup is even worse than ours, hard to believe the majority of these players on both teams should not be playing Test Cricket.

Actually that is a bad idea. Paine cannot be allowed to retire even if he wants to.
There actually is no one else that can captain side. If Head was meant to be next in line his form is not up to scratch to be handed captaincy.
Smith should never be captain again and asking Cummins to captain I never like for a strike bowler.

Difficult call if they couldn’t hand it to him though, Paine has done a good job as a leader, but really isn’t up to it as a Test top 7 batsman.
