Bye Bye
Does it have to be Joe?

I’d consider Wade as an alternative.

From memory he got back in the side on weight of Shield runs which he hasn’t really replicated at Test level.

Joe has been quite unlucky in my view and not been given the same opportunity to have a proper run in the side.

Opening is a tougher role than batting 5/6, so Wade really should average more than Burns if he’s the better batsman (he doesn’t).

Blooding Pucovski at 5/6 is also a more manageable transition to Test cricket, if that’s what’s planned. Pucovski is not a career opener and has already had some mental health concerns. Easing him in to a Test environment, rather than having him open in a huge series versus India, might be appealing to selectors with a long term view.

I know Wade’s form is better, but I’d be weighing it up.

Fair points

I think this is the ideal opportunity to blood both Pucovski & Green ASAP.

I just hope they make the decision and don't hold them both back.

I suspect Burns will be given the Adelaide Test and Head/Wade the first 2.

The two A games are going to be very interesting if Pucovski & Green are amongst the runs.

Sometimes you just have to make the decision.

Mind you I am also hoping to see Bird , Sayers & Worrall in the Adelaide Test but doubt any of them will be picked.

It’s a good point regarding Green, I assume c. 6 would suit him better as well.

Head has been okay-ish, but I reckon Head/Wade/Paine is the weakest part of the side by a reasonable margin. Paine’s leadership has been good and obviously we need someone to keep (ideally well), so Wade looks most dispensable to me, especially given his age.

Interestingly with Kohli out for much of the series, Aus might be in a stronger position, especially if we can win first up in Adelaide. Bringing in some fresh blood after that might be a reasonable entree.

I think I saw that Sayers had posted some surprisingly poor figures so far this season, so I suspect this won’t be his year unfortunately.

Bird , Sayers , Worrall are more to exploit the D/N conditions but I doubt the selectors even would consider picking a side purely based on conditions.

Looks like the phone hookup is tomorrow so be interesting to see both Squads.

Maybe they give Burns a A game to stake his case.

Third seamer will be a massive concern for India , unless they get Ishant right.

Obviously Kohli considerably weakens their batting.

No Smith & Warner last time they were out here and Labuschagne hadn't appeared either.

Very keen to see which way they go, so much hinges on that!

The Smith/Warner/Labuschagne point could be key. We look totally different without them.
