Because they are fragile. They are treated like gods in their own country and struggle when someone challenges that narrative. I think that is a flaw in how they approach their cricket but it doesn't help when a lot of the people at the top of Indian cricket think the same way. But there is no doubt they will always be power to be reckoned with in the foreseeable future as they have the sheer weight of population and a love of the game.
