Just an idea I thought I would share for others here that follow the cricket closely. When the World Cup tournament gets close to starting in mid Feb I intend to run a fantasy league of 6 teams that play each other once and then the top 4 of those teams play off in Semi-Finals at same time the last round of preliminary matches are being played in actual World Cup.

Then those two winners would play off in the Fantasy Grand Final during the actual World Cup Quarter Final stage.
The plan is to create the teams via auction style, which I never tried before but should be fun. Similar to auction style in IPL.
The 6 franchises in this can have up to 3 owners working together to create their list. We will need to create lists of 17 players each franchise and I will categorise players in the tournament to be batters, bowlers, wicketkeepers and allrounders. There will be some type of lower limit to each type you can have in squad and then each round of matches we will each pick a team of 11 that actually score.

I'll probably use the scoring system based on some already existing fantasy cricket game that is easy to access freely on web but the auction and category of player for this game will be customized to suit what I think will be more fun.
Looking at World Cup schedule it is clear to me there will be some overlapping of rounds. Meaning most of the time we will submit our teams for next round before the previous round is finalized. An example being New Zealand play their 3rd match of tournament on Feb 20th which is two days before India and South Africa play their 2nd match of tournament. Hence round two would be completed of fantasy league when India and South Africa are the final teams to complete their 2nd match. However we would have already submitted our round 3 line-ups on the day New Zealand play their 3rd match. As a result if you play you will need to keep well on track on what is going on so you do not miss team submission deadlines.

I mention the origins of this idea way back in September. I know Goodies and MovingUpward were guys already expressed keen interest in playing.
I will reveal more closer to the time but it's won't be based on Big Bash style fantasy game which I'm not even playing.
When the World Cup squads get finalized I'll start to work on a spreadsheet to categorize all the players.
Might even give aspects of it a test run during the tri-nations series of one dayers next month if I find time between FDL and Keeper league stuff that will be my number one priority then,
Anyway should I get if off the ground in full there would be room for up to 18 people to cover 6 franchises with the idea being those franchises duties shared around between 2 or 3 people and we would organize between ourselves whom to team up with once we get much closer to World Cup time.
I'm sold. Sign me up. Should be good fun.

Ok, you can be 5th member of league so far.

I consider the guys below from way back in September to be already accepted.

I would be interested but would probably have to be a part owner with someone if the times of the auctions were going to be during school times, majority of the time after that I would be free.

Sounds like a great, creative idea Oz :)
Like the idea Oz. Your creative juices continue to flow I see!!!

I'm always up for something different (as owner/co-owner/assistant), but should you be oversubscribed, I'm also happy to make way for someone who's keen and has yet to have a crack at one ..
Anything to extend the season and delay the inevitable post-season lull... :p
Thanks mate, if there were 12 or more keen to play we would need to organize ourselves into 6 franchises
Just realized I can keep this idea on hold and translate into an idea for the World Cup Cricket Premier Fantasy League next February.
I love the sound of this!! :)
Had a look at World Cup Draw. It wil be tricky to work around but I will find a way...lol..

Probably 17 man squads and 6 franchises play each other once, then some semi-finals for top 4 and two winners can play off in final at the same time the actual World Cup quarter finals will happen. I won't even include UAE, Ireland, Scotland or Afghanistan in the auctions as none of them any of us will know in anycase...lol.
I will. But good luck outbidding me for the Big Show...lol
Haha rito then.

I tell you what Oz, this could have the makings of the greatest fan sty cricket game going around. I'm looking forward to it very much :)
So Goodie's Guns, MovingUpward, Benno, Erich and myself I consider got first expressions of interest to play.
Plenty of room for more in the lead up. Still about 5 weeks until I would run an auction but was on my mind whilst watching cricket today.

BTW, Michael Clarke is still aiming to play in World Cup and Mitch Marsh had a setback this weekend and will not play in the 4th Test next week.

Just having a look at what I think our 15 man squad for the World Cup might be:

1. David Warner
2. Aaron Finch
3. Shane Watson
4. Michael Clarke
5. Steve Smith
6. George Bailey
7. Brad Haddin
8. Mitch Johnson
9. Mitch Starc
10. Josh Hazlewood
11. Xavier Doherty

12. Glenn Maxwell
13. Mitch Marsh
14. Pat Cummins
15. James Faulkner

Going to be a very strong squad by the looks of it! Obviously we'd love an all-rounder to be at 6, but it's just about impossible to leave Clarke, Smith and Bailey out of the side. Clarke will probably miss the start of the tournament giving an opportunity to a player there. Maybe Maxwell could play as the number one spinner instead of Doherty and strengthen the batting lineup even further.

I think Doherty will miss. My gut feel is Boyce may get the sole spinning spot. Do not count out Lyon though but he is an outsider I would think.
Going to be hard to pick the final 15 for selectors.
I would pick Coulter-Nile ahead of Hazelwood.
Not sure at present moment if Finch form is good enough. He could be shock omission. Haddin or Watson I don't mind opening with Warner.
Feel sorry for Pattinson. Time is against him making it.

I'd be happy with the following line-up:

Warner
Watson
Clarke
Smith
Bailey
Maxwell
Haddin
Faulkner
Coulter-Nile
M Johnson
Cummins or Boyce or Starc at 11 and other two 12th and 13th man

That leaves two more spots in squad.
M Marsh
R Harris maybe as real outsider.
If he breaks down or Clarke we bring in Hazelwood or Pattinson for Harris and for Clarke we bring in Shaun Marsh, Finch, Wade, Voges or Lynn.

Even guys like Jackson Bird and Maddinson would have a real outside chance if injuries occur.

He's running out of time to do any national representation.
Yeah, he is not as young as I thought, being 29. Then again Mike Hussey came to international level late and excelled and Shaun Marsh is past 30 and still just getting into his early Test matches at this age. Would not surprise me if Wessels turned up playing for England in some format in next twelve months. Interesting to see he is a right hander. Different to his father and no strange stance like his Dad had. Still looks to hit ball well. Still time for him to make it.

I hope that's the case. I love the way Boyce goes about it, definitely seems like the future of spin for Australia. I was more trying to get into the heads of the selectors and made my decisions based off what they've done in the past and who they seem to like to get a realistic indication. I can't see Boyce making it but happy to be wrong.

Next in line after my squad of 15 by position are:

Batters - Shaun Marsh, Cameron White, Callum Ferguson
All-Rounders - Dan Christian, Sean Abbott, Moises Henriques, Ben Cutting
Wicket Keepers - Ben Dunk, Matthew Wade
Bowlers - Nathan Coulter-Nile, Kane Richardson, Ryan Harris, James Pattinson, Nathan Lyon

I think we are both forgetting someone that is not totally done yet!!
Hilfey! A smokie if in form.

I agree about Abbott. If he keeps performing well he could steal a spot as a surprise.
BTW,
What is the deal with Coulter-Nile ?
Just realized not seen him play for a while in any format.
Injured ?

Yeah Coulter-Nile injured his hammy in a one-dayer v South Africa and hasn't played since.
Bit of a shame, selectors definitely had him in sights for the World Cup, but in saying that I don't think a lack of fast bowling options will be our problem going in.

.
Hope Marsh retains his spot. Did not play well but needs to find his feet in side as too good to mess this chance up for good.
Pity Marsh did not go on with it after getting a start.
Hopefully in second innings he can do something to start to secure his spot.

I got to admit I looked up the stats on cricinfo a few days ago and Phi Hughes was the only cricketer on any Shield State list this summer that had an average upwards of 50 in his career. We are really struggling for batting depth right now.The problem for me is watching Shaun Marsh whom looks to have the good just not scoring the runs yet. Please do in second innings. We need you.
YES!!!! Perfect timing.
