Slingshot is a term I created 3 or 4 seasons ago, to give a name to a previously used, but as far as I know, unnamed tactic.
Basically a slingshot is when you trade out a player who still has a bye to come, and replace him with a player who has been through his bye. This mainly refers to Prems, but could conceivably apply to other players too.
Part of the reason to do it, is to get 1 more Prem score across the byes, as opposed to a Rookie score or a donut.
Cheers Rowsus,

Am I right to assume that typically a slingshot is a rookie who is about to have their bye who is traded to a premium player who has just come off their bye? But you've also employed the strategy before to trade premiums/midpricers who are about to have their bye to premiums who are about 5-10+ ppg better that have just come of their bye?

Quiet now, footballs on
Don't you hate it when you get invited to someone's place to watch the footy and you decline because you say you're a bit serious when you watch the footy. They reply by saying they're the same and don't like distractions so you reluctantly agree and then you get there and the whole street is in the lounge room. Someone is drunk having an argument, the kids toy doll just broke, the dog won't stop slobbering all over you and maaamma offers you food every 5 minutes.

It can be Rookie to Prem, but where possible I prefer Midprice/Prem to Prem.
In 2017 I slingshotted Nank/Shaw to Kreuzer/Docherty. It actually gained me close to 400 points in around 3 weeks, and moved me from 3000th at the start of the byes, to 630th at the end of them.

Playing devils advocate, if Noble does start and has a bad game or two in rounds 2 and 3, he most likely gets dropped for Quaynor who has had a great preseason too. I liked the way Noble played in M1 and can see him as a lock, the only deterrent being lapse in consistency and form could cost him. What would people do then? hold or trade an expensive rookie that hasn't had a chance to moo yet.
should b in dogs and richmonds fwd 50 a bit in in the 1st 2 games so all down to DE especially against richmonds elite smalls

Thinking of going Lloyd, Houli, Laird, Docherty, Ash, Williamson (Gould, McLennon). The last few may change but those first four seem pretty safe to me. And seems a POD as most are starting houston or Clarke etc

Any reason for no Sicily?

Also, wouldn’t say that most are starting Clark. He’s ownership is currently just 4%.

Not much said about him on SCS. Says something to me... ;)
The fact I'm considering him as a POD says even more. :D

He did have a good Marsh 1, 97 from 81% TOG. 20 pt rise in his average last year coming into his 3rd season. 3 tons and a 98 from his last 9 matches. One I am wanting to see in Marsh 2, probably can't fit him in though without a restructure.

Def: R Laird, J Sicily, L Ryan, S Docherty, D Roberton, J Brander,

Very happy with my def structure which has been consistent for the majority of the preseason (R Laird recently coming in for D Houston) allowing the cheaper options to be taken in the fwd line due to the apparent lack of appealing rookies. Can also fit Noble and Williamson in either via R Laird/D Martin to J Dawson or J Macrae to M Bontempelli to gather the necessary funds.

Anybody else considering a similar path for def (eg 3 premiums, Docherty, Roberton and rookies).

Each to their own strategy on Houston (taking him is completely fine too) but personally, I'm not starting Houston due to the bye round change and with Roberton being a bigger priority for me as a starting pick at his price. The main and overaching concern I had was that taking both Roberton and Houston would bring me two steps closer to a donut in R11 (which would completely change the XYs). All other considerations are probably not as important.
I think is sums it up for me and you’ve convinced me

Houston AND Roberton missing R11 is likely a donut

PLUS we can’t forget he is a spec pick to begin with. It’s asking a lot from the pick to be premium to begin with let alone extra premium enough to make up the extra points he needs to cover the bye problem.

My structure currently doesn’t allow Roberton D5. He has to be D4. Where are you finding the cash for your setup?
