Thompson (love having this guy in my SC draft team), Mitchell, Walker, McVeigh, Suckling and a rookie on field at this very early stage.

If Mitchell/Walker/McVeigh aren't given DEF status then in comes McKenzie followed by Hibberd. Wouldn't start the year with Hodge - best to let the season establish and monitor his scoring output.

Goddard and Walker will be good reliable options.

Birchall will probably be a bargain, see if he gets a discount.

Hanley has scored well in nearly every game, great form, and will get unless a bad early season draw. (ultimate flat track bully)

Suckling is a must if fit and nicely discounted.

Bock will be a good option if rookie priced. (eg. Staker)

I would be surprised if Hanley is a Def next year, spent a lot of time at half forward since sometime before the byes.

Goddard and Heppel shouldn't be Def next year. Not sure on Gibbs haven't seen enough Carlton games.

McVeigh must be a Def/Mid, S Mitchell seems to be back in the Mids but we might get lucky, Deleido should be a chance for Def but I am not confident.

Yep, got it in one.

After starting him as one of my back 'premiums', he is now a midpricer that I am looking to bench every week. The first one on the PC 'Never Again in SC' list methinks.

McKenzie for me as a back lock for 2014. Goodes is a maybe. H Taylor?

I don't think Walker is a safe pick. He will be priced at around 105ppg. Strikes me as having limited upside and could drop back to 90ppg, and has questionable durability.

2013 is the only season that Walker has been fantasy-relevant, and his durability has been Beau Waters-like over the past 6 years (ok for 2011 and 2013, bad for 2008-9, 2010, 2012).

The only players from this season that I'd consider buying at 105ppg for 2014 are Gibbs and Goddard (if they are categorised in D).

Looks like defense will have plenty of bargains that could potentially be 95+ starters: Suckling, Birchall, Grimes. Throw in McKenzie for his super SC/DT ratio and that's most of defense locked up for 2014.

I might keep these guys on my maybe possibles to consider list:

Lachie Henderson - seems to have benefited with a role change but interested to see how he finishes the year off
Houli - now 16th best averaging defender. If Richmond continue on up the ladder perhaps he'll benefit
Carlisle - Stepped up this year, maybe he'll step up again next

My out there player to look at:
Nick Smith - who is this guy? I picked him up in SC Draft last week and he's scored 74, 97, 108, 84 over the last 4 weeks...but it's been against weaker opposition. Will watch the last few weeks of this year with interest when he's up against better teams.

I'm assuming the following won't be classified as DEF anymore next year: Goddard, Heppell, Dixon.

McKenzie, Hanley and Scott D. Thompson look to be good locks.
Shaw, Gibbs, Harry Taylor and Enright will still be solid picks.
Birchall, Suckling, Waters and Hurn could be good value depending on their prices.

Walker could be too expensive given his previous injury history.

He is also the first player on my never ever again list!

Not too sure on how I'll start next years backline as the expensive players always seem to drop below the 500k mark at some stage.

Most likely I'll get Suckling and Bock, depends on their prices. I'll also get Mitchell and McVeigh almost 100%

How about a guy who in his last 11 matches has scored a 69, 99 and 9 100s with an average of 107?!

He started the season terribly before being moved into a half back role and has been a great rebounder. He barely misses a game and has averaged 90+ for the last 5 seasons, albeit as a mid mostly.

He is in my 2014 team in my mind. Surprised he hasn't been mentioned.

I think I know who you mean, don't say it LOL.
I've been holding this one very close to my chest for 2014. :)

Think it might have been 8 100's, 69, 97 and 99 over the last 11.

David Swallow could be a good option if he gets DEF/MID status. Only averaging 75 for the year so will be quite cheap. But with an extra pre season could push that average into the 90's.

Hartlett if he gets the DEF/MID again will once again be tempting.

Older players playing off the half back like Mitchell, McVeigh, Simpson and maybe even Cooney.

It took me 10 minutes to figure out who you guys were talking about. Must admit I usually just read the name and immediately dismiss. He does have quite a remarkable consistency of average over the last five years!
