Max in an inferior car is going to be an interesting watch. Not exactly the classiest performance from him today.
He was right that they cooked him on strategy, on a track with minimal DRC and overtaking opportunities the undercut and track position was just way more valuable than the tyre edge at the end which does force those awful lunges.

I do "enjoy" how biased the British commentators are always hating Max, I really wish that someone else got to cover it as they're genuinely unbearable.

Think Lando did what any driver eyeing off a championship would do in that situation. Probably knew he had to do it from the first radio call but just made sure everyone in the team knew what a sacrifice it was from his perspective.

Very happy for Oscar though! Fully deserved from the moment he snuck in at turn 1
Mistake was that he should have let him straight through and then raced. The whole proving the point thing cost him that chance. As above, doubt he gets back past but he could have at least raced for it instead. Wouldn't have blamed him if he didn't give it back, pretty harsh by McLaren to say "you can race" then hold it against him when he has the much better strategy, albeit the team cooked Piastri but giving him that strategy advantage.

Was funny though, between Max and Lando, the radio chat was vastly more entertaining than the race.

Next month is going to be interesting, McLaren clearly have the best car right now, the RB is probably the 2nd best but Max is driving too aggressive and Perez can't drive at all which makes the Mercedes possibly the better bet, Hamilton just plodding along getting the job done right now.

Disgusting behaviour by Lando & I expected no less, also Mclaren doing their best to screw Oscar again
Glad he got it done!
The more I've had time to think about this I've landed on the view that Lando didn't really do a lot wrong - this is all on the team. McLaren put themselves into this situation with a really stupid and unnecessary strategy call and they basically begged Lando - a man who has won exactly one race himself! - to fix their mistake. And he can quite reasonably say he was getting away in the last stint.

I'm as glad Oscar won as anyone else but it's hard to think of a worse way to get your first win - this side of Charles Leclerc, anyway...

Onto the Belgian GP this week and thinking of going a bit unique (although it might not be) with my lineup this week. Need to try something different.

Backing in Red Bull to perform better than they did and for Max to make his way through the field and score some bonus overtake points with his likely grid penalty.

Also thinking of taking a flyer on Perez as this is last chance saloon for him you would think. Another poor performance and he might be done.

Max, Lando (C), Oscar, Perez
McLaren x2, Red Bull x2

Went the punt of dumping Max into Hamilton and Red Bull to Mercedes, almost went the other way of Russell to Perez and Mercedes to Red Bull, flipped a coin on which all in to go with, always a strong sign of confidence in your trades

Let's see how this turns out!

Coinflip went just a wee bit better in the real stuff

Reckon weekly was a chance if I'd captained Hamilton instead of Lando.

Huge effort by George to go one stop.

McLaren continue to be Ferrari level on strategy, were so focused on Max with Lando that they didn't even think about the whole race, he had 7 (iirc) laps on Russell, should have been able to comfortably one stop also and was perfectly placed to do it. They're still thinking like a mid-pack team despite having the top car on the track.

OP can only blame himself, horrendous pitstop because of him, may have even come out ahead of LeClerc, definitely could have got past him several laps earlier if not for it.

The shortened DRS zones really killed overtaking unfortunately, made it impossible on Max with all the DRS trains going on. LeClerc pretty great effort to hold off Max and Lando.

I also love how awkward Piastri and Hamilton always are in the winners review, they never talk basically. So much more interesting when Max/Lando in there.

Gained on the Russell holders but also lost the Merc points to RB

Lando C, Max, Piastri, Hamilton
2 x Mclaren, 1 x RB, 1 x Merc

Stoked Oscar backed up a 2nd place after his win!
