Hahaha yeah some of my finest work there. I'm still recovering from last year's stupidity so I should be ok this year :D
You actually didn't do super bad rankings wise considering. Would probably have finished in the top 1000 without those last minute trades I reckon.

Those last few minutes are the worst.

Out: Pendles, Ablett
In: Priddis, Fyfe

Those were my genius last minute trades last year. Never recovered.
Pretty sure you won't be making the same mistake again this year.
Or will you? :rolleyes:

Yeah i recovered nicely and managed to get just outside the top 1000 from memory. All the catch up trades I made ended up being my downfall in the end, I don't even want to think where I would've finished had I not had that last minute brainfade :(

Haha nah no chance this year :eek:

Anybody else like this idea? Each competitor has two normal rounds (22 players) during the bye weeks and designates either round 8,9 or 10 as their bye week. Hence people could load up on players from one bye round if they wanted. It would be a huge strategic decision and you'd have three groups of very different teams for round 1 rather than most top competitors having 15-20 identical picks.

It's a good idea, but I don't think it's very fair as SC is as much about random luck as skill in many ways. By that I mean that players aren't going to score the same every week so if you muck up in your choice of the bye round by choosing the week where Buddy rips out a 200, Ablett scores a 180 as everyone's captain and Pendles pulls out a 150, then you are instantly put WAAAAYYYY back overall. I think they have a decent system ATM. Only thing I would change (and this is not for overall) is to start league matches in rd 1 and have 2 bye round off.

PS: Loving the signature mate :p.

Always keen on the start of footy season.
My favourite sport in world and lucky to live in the city where I can see many games live.
Just realized I must have seen over 400 games live.
Went to my first game in 1981....a Carlton v Geelong clash and started going regularly the next season.

Is less attacking and more regimented game than back then but still most exciting game to watch live in person.
Seeing a game via tv is so much more frustrating. So much you can't see, that you can at an actual game.

If Team A averages 1600SCpts and Team B 1700SCpts what would you expect them to score when they played each other? I reckon 99/100 people would instantly think the obvious but wrong answer.
Maybe trick question that I'm not seeing but I would think something like 1575SCpts Team A and Team B 1725SCpts
The correct answer is Team A 1550 v Team B 1750.
I may have missed something Grant, but I could not understand in your workings how you came to this exact answer.

Why can it not be a score like 1575 and 1725 ?

I assume I am missing something but could not find it..

Not sure how you worked out your numbers. I'll give you some practical examples using the round 1 games:

Simplest way to write the formula is:
Expected teams score = teams average - opposition teams average + 1650

Sydney = 1708.5 - 1448.5 + 1650 = 1910
v GWS = 1448.5 - 1708.5 + 1650 = 1390
If you used a ratio then GWS would score higher than their average because the sum of the two teams average <3300 and obviously GWS shouldn't be expected to score more points against a good team. Note that in the two matches between these sides last season Sydney averaged 1893.5 and GWS 1401 (only 6589pts were scored).

Ade = 1663.3 - 1724.1 + 1650 = 1589
v Gee = 1724.1 - 1663.3 + 1650 = 1711
Geelong would be expected to score 13pts less because Adelaide are 13pts better than average. Last season Adelaide's win helped them score 1739-1556.

Mel = 1447.4 - 1603.3 + 1650 = 1494
v StK = 1603.3 - 1447.4 + 1650 = 1806
Because Melbourne score 202.6pts less than average St.Kilda would be expected to have a big score even though they aren't a great team themselves. Real score from last season was 1556 to 1743.

Haw = 1742.1 - 1590.4 + 1650 = 1802
v BL = 1590.4 - 1742.1 + 1650 = 1498
Real score from last season was 1806 to 1492.

So back to the original question:
1600 ave team = 1600 - 1700 + 1650 = 1550
v 1700 ave team = 1700 - 1600 + 1650 = 1750

Hope you understand it now. I'm not sure I can explain it any better.

That is good Grant.

The formula seems like a good approximation for your idea of expectation.

Thanks for following up my query.

I can picture it now. SC die-hards down at the local hotel, watching NAB Challenge, with a couple of 'frothies' and occasionally scribbling down notes in wee black books. That will be me over the next 2 weeks.
