Caldwell getting a lot of the ball early on. Ridley definitely playing more freed up on the red team, good signs.
Caldwell continuing that form. Couple more touches and a goal.
Absolutely dominating, getting a lot of clearances and first possessions at the stoppages as well. Hind probably been the best for the blacks so far and Heppell also very good for the reds. Hobbs I think only one possession
Thanks guys, keep the commentary going.

Pretty scrappy skill wise as you'd expect at this time of the year - Hobbs on Merrett, starting to get into it. Fringe players trying their guts out - have heard Martin and Wanganeen's name quite a bit.

Merrett and Caldwell skillwise are spot on.

Hobbs been better this quarter, quiet first quarter but got into it now. Getting a lot of the ball. Merrett been playing across half back a bit as well, DPP addition round 6?

Would definitely be interested in your take. The one thing I don't have my finger on the pulse of is the injuries that can throw openings up.

I find it very difficult as if there were half as many I'd say any of the HBF types would be locks but with Scrimshaw, Jiath, Impey, Day and Bramble you've basically got 5 into 3, although I do really like the idea of Bramble and Day up the field where they can be making the kicks inside 50 more often and also for their ability to break lines through the midfield. Realistically Jiath could offer similar but think he's got more to offer as an intercept player.

Having said that, Hawks are one of the few teams where the most likely available minutes are actually through the midfield as most of their clearer best 22 guys are forwards or backs.
Our midfield is crying out for change. We saw this towards the back end of last year with Nash and Newcombe getting significant minutes, but I don't think either emerged as certain starters moving forward, so would expect us to give plenty of time to our high draft picks in Ward and Macdonald, as they are our future engine room. Our wings have also gone under serious change since the glory days of Smith and Hill, so fully expecting a bunch of guys to rotate through there, including some of those that established themselves as premium rebounders ie. Bramble, Impey, Day, CJ. Phillips was meh and Downie didn't grab the vacant spot either so keen to see who cements themselves there for a round 1 berth.
