A few conundrums I'd require your valued opinion on @Young gun and @KLo30.
D Fifita to L Leilua and W Blake to J Mansour are locked in but I'm having trouble settling on the remaining 3.

I would greatly appreciate your thoughts on the following:

Replacement for N Cleary: D Brown VS S Drinkwater
Leaning towards Brown for the lower breakeven but Drinkwater has a nice run of upcoming fixtures.

Keep or trade Ponga: If Ponga is traded it will be for either Teddy/Turbo or Drinkwater
Teddy or Turbo means no Staggs and the last trade would be used for Walters to Drinkwater or Leleisiuao to Hampton/S Katoa meaning Katoa/Lomax would be my 17th player.

If Drinkwater replaces him it allows me to get Staggs to replace Leleisiuso whilst using 5 trades and $280,000 in the bank to grab Ponga back next round to replace B Walters by switching Drinkwater to the 5/8 position.

Can still get Staggs and keep Ponga whilst using 4 trades but means Lomax will have to be fielded in the 17.
Sorry for the lateness to replying to this. Trading Ponga in the end was a solid move especially with Raiders and Melbourne coming up. Pity you didn't go with the guns but that's okay they had massive BEs anyway so it's understandable. Sad news over the doubles comp flopping but I'd happily join a group. I would also love to set up a 1v1 rivalry with you Connoiseur. My team name is living on the edge. What is yours?

I know Cleary due back soon but really like the game of Williams yesterday and may consider Johnson swap. Knight to JBT is the other trade.? The first 40 minutes of Raider v Melbourne was Origin Level. To all StGeorge Fans. Long season ahead.

G Williams, E Katoa and J Taunoa-Brown on the bench have currently managed to outscore A Fifita (B Walters automatic replacement), K Staggs, J Isaako, S Johnson and E Marsters onfield.

Hopefully can somehow muster a way to reach 900 after exceeding 1085 in Rounds 1 and 2.
Katoa was a start after being elevated to the starting line up.

I traded Williams out for Drinkwater for the price rise but will more than likely draft Williams back into my squad via Walters, whose role off the bench is going to hurt his cash generation. Hoping Luai has a big one today along with my other 3 panthers to lift me above 1100 for the week.

1222 before the final updates. Hope I get a few more in my favour. After being ranked 32k I really needed a week like this.

Andrew Fifita was ruled out an hour before kick-off as he continues to deal with a chronic knee issue that has been troubling him for the best part of two seasons now. The Sharks front rower was quoted during the season break that he qualifies for medical retirement due to his knee injury already, but he wants to push his body and continue playing in hopes of winning another premiership. Chronic knee issues that involve cartilage degeneration require careful ongoing maintenance, with management of the load (training, games etc) the knee is put under the most important treatment tool. Add to this that Fifita is playing with a PCL deficient knee (he tore his PCL years ago but continues to play without one) and the Sharks have to carefully plan how much running they require from him each week.

Andrew Fifita was thumbs up at a training session but thumbs down an hour before kick-off. Picture: AAP Image/Craig Golding
If Fifita’s symptoms (commonly pain, swelling) are mild, the load can be increased, meaning more training and output during games. But if those same symptoms become aggravated the load must be decreased, allowing the “angry” knee to settle before gradually building up training again. The fact that Fifita’s knee was at a point where an NRL game was too much after a 10 week break in the season is concerning. For many other players managing injuries across the competition the break resulted in them coming back feeling “better than ever”. They were able to back off overall loads where needed, which usually isn’t possible during the regular season. Coach John Morris said they may be forced to push Fifita to return next week after yet another loss in Round 3. Even if he is able to return questions will remain concerning his physical output for the rest of 2020.

Lower leg soft tissue injuries, namely calf and hamstring strains, were always going to be an increased risk with the rapid return to gameplay for NRL players. To go from individual isolation training to NRL game level in 3 weeks is a monumental task, and in order to prepare their bodies appropriately a rapid increase in training loads often brings greater risk for these strains. To add to Townsend’s in game hamstring issue, Dylan Edwards (hamstring), Liam Martin (leg), Lachlan Fitzgibbon (hamstring), Sio Siua Taukeiaho (hamstring), Jordan Kahu (hamstring) and Gavin Cooper (calf) all suffered training injuries that kept them from being available in Round 3. Edwards, Taukeiaho and Cooper all sound likely to be available in the next 1-2 weeks, with the severity of the remaining injuries yet to be revealed by the players’ respective clubs.

1. The new rules and one-referee system has had an immediate impact
The ball is in play more, the defensive lines seem shorter, and as a result the base stats (particularly tackles) seem to be up across the board. Whether this is just a short-term issue, or whether there is much more to this, I’ll reserve judgment for one more week. It’s still definitely something to keep an eye on as it could make for some changes to expected averages of some players (especially the ‘tackle bots’ – potentially hookers, front row and second row forwards).

2. Not-so-Penalty Broncos
In Round 1 of this season we saw the referees blow 103 penalties, each costing the penalised player two points as a negative stat for their SuperCoach score. Round 2 featured 121 penalties. Why is this relevant at all for KFC SuperCoach NRL? Well, with it being confirmed that ‘six again’ ruck infringements (which now restart the tackle count) do not count as a penalty, or an error, hence they won’t result in a “-2” to the score, it’s interesting that there were only 73 penalties blown in Round 3. In terms of KFC SuperCoach NRL impact though, that remains to be really seen. However, players who might constantly wrestle and get pinged for ruck infringements may end up two to four points better on any given week.

3. The old Josh Mansour IS back
For those who may have read this article following Round 2, you might remember that I was on the border of saying Mansour was back. Well, following a ridiculous 51 points from hit-ups this week (23 runs in total), plus three tackle busts and a few offloads, he is firming as one of the top four CTW options for 2020 off the back of his ridiculous workrate. The attacking stats may be lacking but with that much work going on, who cares!

4. Not entirely Cooked
Damien Cook, that is. After two concerning scores to start the year, we saw some signs of life from Cook with his score of 71 featuring 55 points in pure base stats, five tackle busts and a forced dropout. There was plenty of speculation that Cook might thrive with the new rules and while not quite smashing it out of the park with his Round 3 score, there is certainly a lot of potential there for more gun SuperCoach scores. He has a tough match-up in Round 4 (and some more cash to lose) but a match-up in Round 5 against the Titans looms as a rather interesting conundrum. The same sentiments also apply to Cam Murray and Braidon Burns too …

5. McInnes to the rescue
It was his first game back from serious injury but why else would we expect anything but 80 minutes out the gate and defensive effort upon defensive effort. McInnes tackles anything that moves but when the thing that moves does so with history-making efficiency (first NRL team in history to complete 40/40 sets, let alone finish with 43/45 sets), well, it’s no surprise that he topped the tackle counts with 69 less one missed tackle! McInnes has arguably the highest floor of all the hookers but as noted above, with the rule changes potentially improving the base stats of hookers and middle defenders in general, McInnes could be a legitimate option in the 2RF position too.

6. The Harry Grant hype train is about to depart
The hype train has arrived, and it’s about to officially depart for KFC SuperCoach purposes. His first game in Tigers’ colours was just about what we expected – 57 minutes for 55 points in base and base attack stats, and a try with a line break on top for a total of 80 points; great work rate, crisp service and a decision-making ability in attack reserved for the best hookers in the game. His price won’t change next week but even if he plays 50-60 minutes each week (let alone if he plays 80 minutes), Grant already appears to be a playable option in your 17 on a weekly basis. Some SuperCoaches have already jumped on and you can bet a few are already considering grabbing him this coming week …

7. George Williams, welcome to the NRL!
He was good in Round 1, a little quieter in Round 2 but wow, talk about stepping up for a big time game! He was understandably the standout of the Raiders’ Round 3 triumph over the Storm, setting up two tries from one line break and one line break assist, but for KFC SuperCoach purposes, it was again encouraging to see his base and base attack stats over the 30 mark as halves with that level of work can be a genuine playable option in your 17. There are signs that he will only improve which bodes very well for his prospects – in the NRL and also for KFC SuperCoach – in his first season in Australia.

8. Bradman BEAST – that is all
He was a late inclusion for the final team but boy, didn’t he make his presence felt! A ridiculous 2020 debut for Best which featured a double, but also an impressive amount of work (19 runs for over 30 points in hit-ups alone). Sure, the game did go for an extra 10 minutes but that’s still a LOT of work for someone so young. He looks like a perfect downgrade in Round 5 (before his third game) for a maxed out CTW cash cow (the likes of Wiliame or Lomax, perhaps).

9. Valentine Holmes stakes his claim for the congested fullback position
It was against the Titans so it’s not entirely surprising, but faithful owners or recent traders (1.2% of SuperCoaches) were rewarded with a strong 102 point showing, which included three try assists (with accompanying line break assists) and highlighted how integral he is to their attacking structures already. What remains a little concerning is his lower work rate, but you wonder how much of that is due to his ongoing adjustment/transition fitness-wise back to the NRL. In any case his goalkicking does provide a boost to that floor so he could still be a major POD option in that difficult fullback spot, especially considering the Cowboys’ favourable draw.

10. The ‘old firm’ at fullback is still the elite
T & T – Messrs Tedesco and Trbojevic – reminded us exactly why they are the elite this week with dominant performances in their first game back from the elite. High breakevens weren’t a deterrent to many savvy SuperCoaches who grabbed one or both elite fullbacks, and were duly rewarded with the scores they expected. Tommy Turbo was the standout with a 2020 season-high 149 (pending further updates) and it could have been even bigger! Tedesco wasn’t quite there but given his opposition, he was still very impressive. The difficult decision facing KFC SuperCoaches is whether you buy in to ‘the new guard’ of P, P & H (Ponga, Papenhuyzen and Holmes) or rely on ‘old faithful’. Good luck with that decision!

Score: 1019
Rd Rank: 65,502
Overall Rank: 21908 (from 6397)

Current trades for RD4:
Out: B Walters, K Staggs
In: T Trbojevic, B Best

A Fifita for T Flegler or J Saifiti is an alternative instead of K Staggs to Best but I'll likely leave the Fifita trade for a week or 2, to hopefully allow sufficient cash to grab P Haas.

SuperCoach news: LOLO IS OUT – sorry to shout but that deserves all caps if anything does.

LOSERS
* Jason Taumalolo - JASON TAUMALOLO IS OUT. YES, THE MOST POPULAR PLAYER IN KFC SUPERCOACH IS OUT. KNEE INJURY. NO WORD YET ON SEVERITY. DRAMA. WILL STOP shouting.
* Kotoni Staggs - Out for a week through suspension but a hold given he's predicted to rise by $53,000 next time he takes the field.
* Tyrell Fuimaono - Popular cheapie drops out of Dragons' 17 in major reshuffle.

WINNERS
* Bradman Best - Most purchased player this week, attracting more than double the trades of the next player Isaah Yeo after tonning up on his return from injury. While the two tries were an obvious highlight, a massive 47 points came in pure base stats and he looms as one of the cheapies of the year. KFC SuperCoaches can afford to wait another week before his first price rise, but with Nathan Cleary and Harry Grant also on the shopping list for Round 5, the wise move is to move a week early.
* Kalyn Ponga - Returns from a one-game suspension and will challenge popular buys Teddy and Turbo for top fullback honours by the end of the year.
* Stephen Crichton - Looks to have scored a permanent starting spot at the Panthers. Sits in the borderline cheapie range but only owned by two per cent.
* Harry Grant - A near must-have at some stage, although KFC SuperCoaches have the luxury of waiting until next week and still buying at the same price. With 80 points, 57 minutes and 49 in pure base, he looms as one of the cheapies of the year and is currently the sixth most purchased player. Biggest issue is who to sell – Apisai Koroisau or Blayke Brailey? Unfortunately, Grant’s emergence will soon spell the end of popular cheapie Billy Walters, although with a BE of -2 he's worth holding for another week.
* Will Kennedy - Popular cheapie earns a stay of execution - and predicted $28K price rise on top of $42K last week. Kennedy's fullback rival Mat Moylan returns from injury in the halves in place of the injured Chad Townsend, handing Kennedy at least another week.
* Adam Clune - Cheapie to watch at the Dragons. The NSW Cup halfback of the year has been named in jersey No.7 with Ben Hunt to wear No. 6 and Corey Norman moving to fullback.
* Tom Trbojevic, James Tedesco, Isaah Yeo, Ryan Matterson, Eliesa Katoa - All among the most purchased players this week and all are worth it.

1. Tyrone Roberts, 2. Brian Kelly, 3. Dale Copley, 4. Tyrone Peachey, 5. Phil Sami, 6. Ash Taylor, 7. Jamal Fogarty, 8. Moeaki Fotuaika, 9. Erin Clark, 10. Sam Lisone, 11. Kevin Proctor (c), 12. Keegan Hipgrave, 13. Jai Arrow.

SuperCoach news: Jarrod Wallace played Origin for Queensland in 2019 but is out of the Titans starting 17 and named in the reserves. Erin Clark wins the start at hooker with Nathan Peats left right out. Former Storm player Young Tonumaipea comes on to the bench.

SuperCoach news: Kieran Foran makes his long-awaited return for the Bulldogs and has been named to start at five-eighth. Not much else of SC interest here with Jake Averillo on the bench as a utility.

Dragons: 1. Corey Norman, 2. Jordan Pereira, 3. Brayden Williame, 4. Zac Lomax, 5. Mikaele Ravalawa, 6. Ben Hunt, 7. Adam Clune 8. Josh Kerr, 9. Cameron McInnes, 10. Paul Vaughan, 11. Tyson Frizell, 12. Tariq Sims, 13. James Graham

Reserves: 18. Tyrell Fuimaono, 19. Matthew Dufty, 20. Jacob Host, 21. Jackson Ford
SuperCoach news: Changes galore at the Dragons. Corey Norman has been shifted to fullback which sees Matt Dufty dropped to the reserves. NSW Cup halfback of the year Adam Clune has been named to start in jersey number 7 with Ben Hunt to wear 6. Josh Kerr promoted to the starting side at prop, and James Graham holds his spot at lock despite being largely ineffectual last week. More changes on the bench with Issac Luke named in a potential blow to Cameron McInnes fans, and he is joined by Trent Merrin. Tyrell Fuimaono has been relegated to the reserves despite strong play when given a chance.
