First crack of 2016-
DEF- Bartel, Kolodjasnij, Langdon, Yeo, M Brown, Hartley (S Collins, K Collins)
MID- Fyfe, GAJ, Pendles, Rockliff, Libba, Crouch, J Anderson, Petracca (Kerridge, Gore, Cuningham)
RUCK- Mumford, Lobbe (King)
FWD- D Martin, Barlow, S Gray, Christensen, Wells, Simpkin (Pickett, Adams)

Defenders- refuse to spend over 500k on starting defenders, will hopefully pick up McVeigh and Shaw throughout the year at 50-120k cheaper. Obviously went with a risky backline but can see all of Langdon, Yeo and Kolo continuing their gradual improvement to average over 90 this year.
Midfielders- General star studded engine room, Crouch will be in pending he survives the NAB challenge out.
Rucks- Another risky line, understand that with Mumford and Lobbe I'll likely be dedicating two trades throughout the year (Mumford injury/suspension, Lobbe upgrade) but believe both these players can make a considerable amount of cash. Hoping for a Mumford 590k to Goldstein 600k and Lobbe 500k to S Martin 540k at some stage. Plus Mumford when fit can score higher than anyone and will be hungry for success after his injuries last year, could be a great POD.
Forwards- Martin and Barlow are the safe options, pure gut feeling has lead me to select Sam Gray and Allen Christensen.. Feel as if Sam Gray will fly under the radar this year and quietly average 20+ possies, 5+ tackles and a goal a game. Also feel as if Christensen could be in for his breakout year after getting over his niggles, getting used to Brisbane's structure and possibly benefiting from playing in a stronger side than last year.
Not sold on Wells but have spent big on rookies all over the ground which means I'm not caught out if not many great 117-123k rookies appear.

Open to any criticism or comments and any general discussion.

Ok, 1st go at it:

Def: K.Kolo, Bartel, Yeo, Rich, M.Brown, Bonner (Rice, K.Collins)
Mid: Pendlebury, Ablett, Hannebery, S.Mitchell, Libba/D.Shiel, T. Rockliff, D.Parish, Freeman (Keays, Cunningham, Mathieson)
Ruck: Blicavs, Lobbe (Loersch)
Fwd: D.Martin, M.Robinson, K.Tippert, Barlow/C.Bird, Petracca, Kerridge (Ramsey, Yarran)

A lot of maybes in this so far, but its good fun getting started.

Defense - not too sure about Rich and Kolo - I think Yeo is in for a big year but Rich and Kolo are risks. Rich or Birchall?
Midfield - Too many premiums? I was thinking of dropping Mitchell or Shiel for Libba, and boosting up Rich or Bird to premiums.
Rucks - Big POD i think - I think that Blicavs was fantastic during last season when he was played as a midfielder. He is very hard to stop and won the B&F at the cattery for a reason. He is someone i am seriously considering. Goldy is too expensive and like Fyfe, i will be avoiding him for now. Other ruckman i'll consider is Jacobs. Lobbe will get first preference as the main port ruck so at that price you just have to go for value.
Forward - D.Martin is set and forget but the rest i have can be changed. Tippert - if he plays in the ruck then he is a good buy i think. Can put in stinkers too... - but so can the rest of the forwards really - except Deledio. Barlow is cheap and Robinson - i like he's contested play and he is said to be getting fitter for more midfield minutes. I may consider Bird over Barlow for value - but that depends really on if i go for Shiel or Libba.

Defenders
McVeigh,Boyd,Bartell,McGovern,rookie x4
Midfielders
Ablett,Rocky,Selwood,Libba,O'meara,Crouch,rookie x5
Rucks
Mummy,Martin
Forwards
Dusty,Roughy,Barlow,Green,Bird,rookie x3

So in the defence I've gone with 4 players that I think will average between 95 & 105 G'N'R
I've taken a little risk in the midfield with a mid price strategy with hope of stepping stones ( O'meara,Crouch)
Set & forget Rucks
I'm hoping I don't have to touch the forward line until buy time, maybe change Green to someone like Riolli or Harvey!! So there ya go, thoughts people's

Nice team..;)
Very similar structure to mine but I have an extra premium in my forward line and have an extra in the midfield.
Not sure about Rich & Luey.. Maybe an expensive rookie for Luey and upgrade Rich. just a thought..

Not too sure..
I think that there's a little to much hoping about this version
Hoping that KK & Yeo become keepers..
Hoping that Lobbe redeems himself even for an upgrade target.
Even with your forward line premiums carry risk with Libba coming back how will that effect him & Bennell who knows..could do anything.

DEF - Laird, KK, Docherty, M.Brown (D/F), S.Collins, M.Adams (D/F) (Bonner, K.Collins)
MID - Fyfe, Dangerfield, Pendlebury, Ablett, Rockliff, Liberatore, Mills, Lovell (Gore, Ahern (M/F), Dunkley)
RUC - Goldstein, Gawn (Goetz)
FOR - Martin (M/F), Dahlhaus (M/F), Barlow (M/F), Duggan (M/F), Kerridge (M/F), Petracca (M/F) (Kommer, McDonald-Tipungwuti (D/F))

BANK: $69,200

Defenders - Gone with the younger brigade although KK or Docherty may very well become Bartel.
Midfielders - I have gone with the premos that are capable of scoring 120+ for the season. Hoping Libba will be a cash cow and average 105+
Rucks - Starting Goldy as I believe he will still be the number one ruck and I have gone with Gawn at R2. Gawn just turned 25 and had an injury interupted preseason last year. By all reports he has had a great preseason to date and I believe he will improve on last year especially with Jamar gone.
Forwards - Gone with my smokey in Duggan who I believe can average 80+. I think he will have a great second season ala Gaff/Sheed. DPP is an added bonus.

Word of caution, I wouldn't not pick Barlow based on the 'rumour' that he was trade bait (see article below)...he is definitely best 22

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-12-04/i-was-never-the-mccarthy-bait-says-freo-mid
Thanks for article, trade bait comment did raise question marks.

I wouldn't focus on Barlow being best 22, question is how often will he attend centre bounces. He seemed to lose that role before receiving increased time at the end of the season when Fyfe was rested more. For me, Mundy, Fyfe and Hill are best 3 with Neale, Barlow and now Bennell fighting out for 4th spot. Will Fyfe go forward which will help Barlow et all receive more mid time.

Positive comment in article was he is injury free preseason. Lets hope it was some minor injury restricted his mid time.

A decent looking team with a lot of firepower in the midfield and this is the first time I've seen Gawn in ANY teams! A couple of minor tweaks here and there is all that's needed at this stage.

DEF: I like your thinking here but can't help but feel that you're relying on 1 too many on-field rookie, if you can find them post NAB then fantastic.
MID: Looks great on paper and nothing wrong with your choices, I feel you've gone too top heavy in this line and don't have enough cash cow rookie in this line to enable you to upgrade your team in a timely manner. You may start off great and I feel you may hit the wall with regards to upgrades when the well runs dry. Maybe do 1 downgrade here and use the funds to strengthen your DEF.
RUC: Goldy is great, but coupled with Gawn...I haven't seen this combination so you're an absolute genius if this pays off.
FWD: Back to some normality with regards to structure here, I say go with your gut instinct if you feel Duggan is your man.

I am a bit ambivalent about Barlow as well but that may be a good thing. Just plonk him in the forward line each week, get 85-130 thru the year, no fuss, no chopsticks, no beating Tucks' record, no depression. Play 22, av. 100, take that.

After trying to digest some of the data on this site which is akin to getting Apollo 13 back to earth, I am sticking with folding my paper planes and seeing which one flies further.

This side is really risky Mudflap, you only have five or so certain keepers. Try for a minimum of 12. See some of the sides posted above for a guide.

I have taken a deliberate set against the backs (especially the older players). I expect (or should say hope) that 5 of the top 10 defenders at the end of the season will come from the 400 - 450K bracket. I may need to lose Salem and Upgrade a ruck (to Goldy)

Current thinking for me is that i'm least confident in the def keepers, so may aim to start with only my future D4-6. All the top guys seem overpriced, especially given the midfield talent.

Coming round to the idea that Shaw (and to a lesser extend Boyd and McV) are more overpriced than Goldy and Fyfe.
