Eagles may as well trade with the Hawks if they prefer Curtin to Reid. Future 1st from the Hawks is most likely going to be a top 5 pick, and I have heard the Roos prefer other players to Curtin at pick 2 (and even 3 if they get that as compensation for McKay).

I don't love the deal still, but it's not terrible.
I'd be stunned if the hawks offered up their future first due to that exact risk. Do WC take the chance that we don't take their guy if we have also packaged up a future late first and possibly a first this year also???

What do you feel gets this done mate? I have been pretty vocal in my group chats about "throwing the eagles a bone" rather than standing our ground in hope you take Curtain at 1.
Pick 2 and our future compo 1st get it? Could also get 14 or 19 in the mix this season
I personally think the Eagles will just hold and draft Reid. He is the exact type of player we need and the exact type you draft to build you team around, we have also just lost our most marketable player in Nic Nat who generated huge money for the club... Reid will be a huge drawcard for years to come and is highly marketable. That fixes that problem right there.

Traditionally pick 1 very rarely changes hands, and West Coast is also very much in the position of power here... Either an unbelievable offer is put to us that we just can't refuse, or we just draft the best prospect in the country. There is nothing forcing us to trade the pick despite what the victorian media would have everyone believe.

When you look at our team, the glaring need for us is in the midfield... not a CHB like Curtin. If Curtin wasn't from WA I doubt he would even be talked about for us. We have a long history of being able to identify, draft & develop young talls with lower picks like MacKenzie, Barrass, McGovern, Allen and Darling... all taken outside the first round. There are several prospects like this in the later rounds this year.

We also have an unbelievable retention rate when it comes to interstate draftee's with no fear of drafting Victorian kids in the first round ahead of WA prospects.

If a deal with North was to done I think it would take pick 2 & 3 to get it done. North fans aren't going to like it but if you want to jump up and grab one of the best prospects in many years... then you have to pay a premium for it... West Coast are not here to just do a "fair" deal and help opposition clubs.

Last year it made sense to split pick 2 as Hewett was really our main target, and Ginbey was just the bonus (despite them being drafted the other way around). This year is does not unless you can secure two genuine top 10 picks after Academy, Father/Son and Compensation picks are factored in. They are going to push all draft picks way down the order as this draft is heavily compromised.

If we weren't to draft Reid, most WCE supporters who closely follow the draft would prefer to walk away with McKercher over Curtin, and then maybe another player like Connor O'Sullivan or Ollie Murphy.

Another thing I will add is West Coast traditionally always play their cards very close to their chest regarding the draft. The so called draft experts over east often have no clue at all what we are going to do. It's why you get this lazy reporting just linking us to the top rated WA prospect without actually considering what is in West Coasts best interests.

The media would have us believe we are falling over ourselves trying to get Curtin... When in fact it's North Melbourne by far who have shown the most interest, and met him the most of all clubs so far.

Believe Clarko flew over to watch the WAFL Colts GF to specifically watch Curtin play live for Claremont & to have a chat with him/his manager & his family ;)

This for sure. Agree with exactly what you've said there, not sold that you guys are anywhere as locked on Curtin as is being made out.

Not much. These were my mental notes:
  • Koschitzke would be a good replacement for Jack Riewoldt.
  • Koschitzke wouldn't cost much - 3rd/4th rounder or later.
  • Richmond need to use 'moneyball' tactics.
  • Our midfield is slow outside of Bolton.
  • Balta is better as a key back, but not on the very last line (makes lots of mistakes).
  • A caller suggested playing Gibcus forward next year.
  • A caller suggested they heard a rumour that Harmes from Melbourne wants to go to Punt Rd.
Thank you for the notes, much appreciated. :)

SYDNEY has landed Melbourne premiership midfielder James Jordon.

As exclusively revealed by AFL.com.au last month, Jordon – an unrestricted free agent – selected the Swans as his new home.

His move to Sydney was confirmed on Friday morning, with the Demons to receive an end of round two compensation pick - currently pick No.39.

"James is a talented young midfielder who we think has a bright future ahead of him," Swans footy boss Charlie Gardiner said.

"We think he will be a valuable addition to our midfield group with his running ability and flexibility to play inside and out.

"He has had an impressive start to his career to date and comes with experience in a successful program at Melbourne, so we are confident he will make us better.

"We’re really looking forward to welcoming James to the club."

Jordon was named in the 23-man squad for every game of Melbourne's premiership season of 2021, although he did not play a moment of the Grand Final after being named as the medical substitute.

Jordon was selected by the Demons at pick No.33 in the 2018 AFL Draft. He has played 65 games for the Demons since making his debut in round one, 2021 but only managed 18 games in 2023 including six as starting sub.
