On the Tiges note, things are looking pretty slim.

Thought we might have had a chance at Harmes but he's off the table now, and really our only target now appears to be Kozitschke.

Hawks want pick 25 for him, but IMO, that's too steep. Guy has never had a 30+ goal season, and only played 12 games this year in a team that was desperately crying out for a second key forward.

Hawks fans, am I underrating Kozitschke? Chol wants to be a Hawk, so just send him there, we'll send our pick 48 up to GC and take Kozitschke. Hopefully Tigers don't fumble this one.

Looking at who else is available in terms of key forwards with a few years experience, and some of the recent contract renewals for ordinary key forwards, 25 is probably a good deal for the Tigers...

He's got potential. Pretty sure he has a similar amount of goals per game at this point of his career as Riewoldt or Lynch did. Hawks had a contract offer for him, so it's not like they wanted him out. I think one reason he didn't play as much this year was we had a few other key forwards doing very well at VFL level, and it was seeing who can cut it at AFL level in a development year.

Why when you nominate a Victorian club do you get to go there?
Schultz has nominated Collingwood as his club of choice. Funny how they all nominate the premiers. Same thing with Geelong last year.

There are a number of Victorian clubs.

Freo should do the best deal for the club and deal with all Vic clubs and take the best offer for Freo as he is going to be a big loss.

Why don't the blues throw their hat in the ring?

He would be the missing piece, a pressure small fwd at the feet of the big boys who can kick goals. Blues have small pressure fwds but they don't kick enough goals.

Offer pick 16 this year and get back Schultz and a future 2nd or third which they can use to bring in Campo boys in 24.

Just a thought.

Ridiculous doesn't even begin to describe the McKay compensation situation.
The inherent problem with free agency generally is that it's a reactive market that fights against the league interest of equalisation. There's huge incentive for players to do exactly this: move to a more upwardly mobile team, or a team at the top and trade a bit of earning potential for a shot at team success.

From the perspective of the clubs, who would all have had to agree to the system for it to be implemented at all, a struggling club (and every club will find itself there at some point) has essentially no chance of being a buyer in this market; just look at the amount of money North have attempted to throw at the likes of Dusty, Jelly and JDG. A higher degree of compensation for losing a key player is probably the only way you can get those clubs on board. It's likely more politics and horse trading than it is equalisation, but I would bet that's why it exists in the form that it does.

This is a very good question. Especially as Schultz is contracted, right? That in theory should give the club more power.

North Melb.
Glad to see everyone is on board regarding pick 3 compensation for Ben McKay - absolutely disgraceful lol.

North could've kept him but decided not to, so why are we handing out top-end draft picks for a team that can't get their stuff together? Come on.

And Bombers, what are you doing offering this deal?!
This! I am not sure why North's brand is getting dragged through the mud here. The AFLs rules are there (albeit not perfect) but the lack of attention Essendon are getting for committing such a contract to a player such as Mckay v North need to get their end in order doesn't seem right at all

What was that?

Apparently according to AFL,6 times better player that buddy who receives 19 as compensation.

Would he even be in the top 10 defenders in the AFL? Doubt it.
6 x better than Buddy Franklin you say? Wow! He must be quite the player. He must be like a fusion between Alex Rance, Stephen Silvagni, and Matthew Scarlett. I'll have to make sure I watch a few Essendon games next year. 😉
