Went through every player today who is rookie priced and came up with a list of players who I think are a chance of round 1.

Thought I might as well share with the community because why not?

I may have missed some but this is just my opinion based on a lot of reading and trying to follow each team’s pre-season.

They are listed as cheapest to most expensive in each position.

Of course not all of these guys will play round 1 and there will be a couple who might end up playing that I haven’t listed but here it is anyway..

DEF: Hore, H Jones, B McKay, Clark, Quaynor, Logue, C Cox, Collins, Williamson, Keeffe, Z Guthrie

DEF/FWD: Burgess, Rozee

DEF/MID: Duursma

MID: Gibbons, Atkins, E Smith, Bewley, Hind, Constable, C Wagner, Hately, Davies-Uniacke, Walsh

RUC: Fort, Z Clarke, A Smith

FWD/MID: Drew, McHenry, Setterfield

FWD: Parker, Cavarra, McAdam, Stengle, Dylan Moore, Petruccelle, Blakey, Rankine, Lukosius

Thanks ,,, appreciate this post and the sharing ...

Probably got 90% of them on my shortlist but the other 10% is food for thought ...

- Around the price (< 250k) I also have Battle and Preuss listed ...

For mine a big chunk of the issue is not how well they show up in the intraclub or JLT but is there a spot up for grabs. Take Hore. I don't think there is much room for him in the Melb defence come rd 1. Port on the other hand have some fwd spots and so Rozee becomes a chance provided his shoulder is okay and Drew looks good as well. I think GWS are shallow in the mids and if Hately shows up in the JLT he is a good chance as well. So it is not so much just how they perform but the opportunity they might get.

Yeah definitely agree.

With reference to Hore, with Lever out for the start of the season there is an opportunity for Hore to play from round 1. Could come down to Hore v Frost for the last defensive spot or the Dees may even opt to play them both with one named on the ground and the other starting on the bench.

Yes he might get on the bench. I am no expert on Melbourne but just thought by rd 1 or 2 all of May, O McD, Frost, Jetta, Hibberd, Lewis and Salem would be down back and Hore would be struggling.

Pre JLT my def rookies atm are Rozee, Quaynor, J Clark and McKay. JLT will have a big say on who stays and who goes.

Would Clark drop straight out when Tuohy is ready?

It feels like a lot more early probables than normal..Still the JLT bolsters to come.
I'd have most of the players BB listed as possibles more than probables. Rankine, Lukosius, Collins and Walsh will play if fit and the rest are questionable (Setterfield is apparently being eased in).

Possibly. My line of thought was more aimed at guys like Bews and Kolodjashnij who I thought were vulnerable to replacement. Plus Geelong are not scared to play their rookies if they show enough. But lets see the JLT first.

I’m hearing talk about Setterfield being rested quite often.

Is he worth starting if he only plays 3 games at a time?
