My current Naismith side has $200k spare. I can see it getting spent at this rate. Stephens on the bench for example. Wow

I have Anderson on bench as I wasn't really expecting Robertson to be named. I'm hopeful on Budarick though.

D.Stephens just doesn't have the JS as he wasn't even selected by the AFL authors. Worth paying for Anderson if going for a premium rookie on bench.

So given that these predicted teams have now scared everyone, to prepare for the worst case scenarios, does anyone have a view on:

Townsend v ZGL v Schultz?

Can't really split these guys. Bonar would've been better. Potentially just taking a Davis/Sturt type on bench instead is better than paying up.

If those predicted teams are right, I might have as many as 6 bench donuts with my current team. I expected 3 were likely omissions, and have proposed cover for them, but 6 would be an issue. Think I need to make a few more changes...

What do you see guys like Davis , King , Rankine , Sturt , Taylor averaging ?

and Serong ?

I think the Marsh cup averages will be a good indicator for Davis, Sturt and King's scoring levels. Probably your 40-50 avg rookies that peak at 220k. King has shown some potential for a spike game so I prefer him to Davis/Sturt.

Taylor showed a good ceiling, but realistically I think probably 55-60. Rankine is hyped so purely based on that I think at least 60.

Serong is really role and TOG dependent. Could see him averaging 65 easily if he gets an inside mid role, but if stuck forward could be closer to a 50 avg. Maybe Serong is the one I try get in the hope that he does string a few together and plays inside mid.

Jackson is the big unknown for me. They're saying things like playing him in the midfield as a midfielder not ruck. Wondering whether to take him if named R1 as it'd be a good indicator of JS and recognition of his potential.

so based on what @Bomber18 just posted , more than enough rookies (24)

Noble , Ash * , BZT , McAsey , Starcevich * , Brander * , Williams *

Rowell , Anderson , Serong , Green , Pickett

Jackson

Townsend , Schultz , ZGL , CCJ * , Kropenyeri-Pickett , Georgiades , Davis , King , Rankine , Sturt , Taylor

shouldn't be too hard to create a side using these , wait for Wednesday to confirm Carlton & Richmond teams.

Hopefully clubs announce their debutants early in the week
Plenty of likely round 1 starters - the trick is working out who will stick with the AFL team long enough to make enough cash before the first round of downgrades.

I don’t know much about this Jackson except his highly rated, must be a like a good Josh Fraser from years ago, but I struggle to see where Melbourne could fit another midfielder in.

If he plays round 1, he will play predominantly as a forward providing relief in the ruck.

The spot is between he and Weideman.

Is this for F5 with C Taylor at F6? Out of those I would go with ZGL, but personally I'd rather go a Davis type and hope Rankine is good for 60 a game on field at F6. Davis appears to have solid job security, which is rare this year at that low rookie price. Alternatively, maybe Brander or Budarick if named, but feel we may need them in defence and midfield.

Noticed they had Darcy Fort rucking for Geelong. I'm almost ready to take a punt and whack him in, giving me a speculative M6 type (Walsh perhaps) instead of trying to find 6 reliable mid rookies. Feels about as good as picking Naismith anyway!

Geelong rucks can’t be trusted. It will be Fort one week, Stanley the next.

Forward seems to have anumber of reasonable options at the cheap end of the scale. I wonder if we'll have to make sacrifices in our "premium" or "breakouts" here to get the stronger rookies.

One option is of course (I think @Herbie66 looked at this) to start one of likes of smith/steven/brayshaw in midfield and swing them forward in due course.

Waiting on price drops for many of the fully priced premiums, such as Gawn, Macrae, Lloyd and Whitfield; and choosing to start the lower end premiums such as Oliver, Houston and Steven may be even more important this year to fit in all these high priced rookies.
I know it sounds obvious but taking Macrae and Whitfield down to Oliver and Houston has allowed me to maintain 14 premiums, while having the high priced rookies that appear to have strong job security
