A 3 premo midfield looks decent at this point with a plethora of (possible) high scoring rookies in the mids.

To name a few:
Stephens
Rowell
Sier
Pickett
McHenry
Caldwell
Mead
Sier, I didn't realise he was so cheap, $242,700. I don't know what to make of him, talented player but has he matured?

Brayden Sier may have "saved his career" late in the 2017 season after finally becoming serious about his footy, according to Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley.
"By his own admission, (he) probably didn't have football high enough in his priorities in the first 18 months (of his time at the club)," Buckley said........

Brayden Sier signs a new two-year deal to remain with the Magpies until the end of 2021.
"We've seen some really positive signs from Brayden over the past couple of years and as he continues to grow and develop, he can play an important role in our midfield going forward," Pies list boss Ned Guy said.

If he gets his body right and is fully focused he could make huge cash.

A 85 average until the byes is well within his reach.

I didnt realize Sier was so cheap either. He had an 80 avg in 2018 so has shown scoring potential. Does he have JS and can he got a spot in that Pies midfield? Unclear if Beams will be back from his mental health break early on so there could be a spot. On my watchlist for sure.

He's been in and out of my side. I like him more than Rowell for not much more cash - if he looks like a starting mid in R1 I'll likely put him in, be a bit different to the masses.

He's dropped a few kilos too which will help with his second half fadeouts.

Had ankle(?) calf and concussion problems. The last one is a worry with the crash and bash, extractor role he will play. 245k.... Pretty expensive but if he is fit he is best 22. The only other plausible options we have for inside mid are Adams and maybe Maynard and Adams can't do it on his own for long. All our other mids are too-light or to one-way.

I got a hundred or so k to spare..... Nasty feeling that I'm gonna talk myself into starting him

Wasn't Bianco rated top 3/4 kicks from the draft ? If so he won't be any use to our kamikaze turnover kings, maybe he plays HBF with Pendles and release Apple (Crisp) into the mids as a bigger body ? Doubt Apricot (Maynard) has the smarts to play as a mid

Yep. Bianco was a good get for us. Can kick. Is a mad Pies fan. Captained Rowel and Anderson so has some sort of leadership. But....

There's a guy over on Hotrods was saying that the U18 comp had worked out that if you hit him early, he tended to not get into the game. Mix that with his slight build and I can't see him getting too many games or points when he gets there. We already have a player in that mould in Josh Daicos who, even though he has underwhelmed to date, would still outperform a skinny mid-draft 1 year player.

Don't get me wrong, I do think Bianco was a good get. But not sure that he's going to be SC relevant in his first year. Hope I'm wrong there of course.

We saw Crisp in the mids a bit over the years and I don't think it works as well as Crisp off half back. His real gift is in evasion at speed and he can use his size and strength to get through tackles and break a line. He's not what we are looking for in the mids right now. We need someone who can get dirty at ground level and win first dibs at a stoppage. Crisp didn't really show that ability IMV

Can remember the one game Maynard played mid against Oliver and the results were mixed. Oliver got 30 touches in the end but Maynard didn't disgrace himself at all, getting 23 and posting 109 SC. Not bad for his only run there. The point is that our only bulls are Wills and Sier. Adams can play inside mid but he's more your Luke Ball jump on a hand grenade type of mid. Not the tall, strong battering ram with vision. Adams also misses a month or two every year.

We've actually seen DeGoey look at home in there but I can see him only getting short stints. Stamina and injury concerns and we need him forward.

Thanks for that

Might have to revert back to the manic run and handball game then that seemed to work a few seasons ago, certainly don't have the foot skills to become even a good kicking team let alone elite

run, run, run and when you cant run anymore, just run

would love de Goey to actually play 20+ games in a season

No worries Herbie.

We have some pretty good kicks out of the backline now. Maynard has eradicated most of his howlers and is now a thumping, penetrating kick. Howe is usually reliable (though the odd game he stu*** one up he does so quite magnificently). IQ is a neat user. Roughie is pleasantly unremarkable with his kicking and Moore gets it where it's meant to go most times. Langdon won't play, maybe ever again. Daicos is a beautiful kick when he plays though he does sometimes bite off more than he can chew (which was Maynard's only problem really).

The midfield though... Treloar, Phillips and Adams.... *shudder* You really wanna add Crisp back to that list? :D

Reckon having one of Cox or Cameron to kick to will make a difference hough. Too much of the time the mid would look up to see an undersized forward line with virtually no aerial strength and they'd either panic a kick forward or stop and go sideways. Coxy may not be the best overhead mark, especially since they rolled back the Clement rule, but at least he presents a target that should at least get it down to our mid sizers and smalls. Mihocek won't be faced with the best key defender anymore either. He's good player and all but he isn't a first KPF like he had to play last year.

With the rookies: something to bear in mind is also that Buckley isn't too keen to debut first year players until later in the year or even the year after. He's talked before about growing bodies and having them ready for the rigours of AFL, which down our way usually means getting a few hamstring tears into them before they debut. Guys like DeGoey and Stevo were played early but were the exceptions rather than the rule. (The two of them are ready for big years IMV)

My bet is that our debutant to watch this year will be Tyler Brown. Think you might enjoy watching him :)

love your optimism and positivity ?

I fear I will continue to shudder when we have the ball in our D50.

Very few people understand Cox's role & structure to our team , main focus is to present and give a contest.

I guess Mihocek & Mayne just can provide the best they can.

Love to see us employ the triangulation inside 50 again with de Goey , WHE & Stephenson given time & space to work into.

I actually think BBQ & Tay Tay are fantastic kicks over 10-12 metres , they just need to know their limitations and not get expectations mixed up with their ability , or just handball the thing to Pendles.

setterfield is probably a better option for a bit more money though
I kept an eye on Setterfield last year because he was in my team. What I saw of his field play didn't impress me at all. I couldn't wait to trade him out, but ran out of trades. Unless he improves (and being young he could improve), I wouldn't pick him, unless he shows some big improvement.

any one going to put bennell on the bench for 123k or to risky?
If he starts, I would have thought you’d have him on field. Otherwise could be a good downgrade option on the bubble. He’s obviously a high injury risk, but his upside at that price is ridiculous if he can get on the park for a string of games.

Not sure why people are questioning this. If he plays round 1 you'd be silly not to have him. Sure, his calf could go ping in the first couple of games, but that's no different to a Bailey Scott type playing a couple of games before getting dropped and never sighted again.

Yeah I'd have him for his onfield scores alone... hopefully stays around long enough to make some $$$
