SuperCoaches eye magical 3000 for just second time ever as AFL stars do their bit

ONLY once has the magical 3000 mark been reached before.
It was Round 19, 2011, when Geelong monstered Melbourne 186 points, Collingwood hammered Essendon by 74 and one Supercoach went as high as 3046.
Steve Johnson (199), Joel Corey and Joel Selwood (both 155) went huge against the Demons, Dean Cox amassed 213 in West Coast’s victory over the Western Bulldogs, Nick Dal Santo pumped out 189 points for St Kilda and Dane Swan and Scott Pendlebury combined for 336.
It has been almost seven years since someone went close to cracking 3000 points again.
Heading into Sunday’s matches, several coaches will be dreaming of that momentous feat.
Patrick Dangerfield (158) and Rory Laird (133) started the long weekend of football off on a perfect note, while Patrick Cripps (156), Tom Mitchell (159), Stefan Martin (142), Clayton Oliver (136), Max Gawn (131), Michael Hurley (120) and Dustin Martin (110) have cracked three figures.
Not to mention Jack Billings’ 125 against Carlton at risk of hurting those who traded him out while his price plummeted.
Gawn, Mitchell, Laird, Martin, Cripps and Dangerfield are among the eight most popular selections in the game.
If you have a combination of these and any of Oliver, Hurley, Stefan Martin and Billings, you will be sitting on a potential score which could catapult you up the overall rankings and potentially into Supercoach folklore.
Importantly, many coaches opted to put the vice-captain tag on Dangerfield, Cripps and Mitchell and have chosen to loophole their score to pocket more than 300 points from their skipper.
A combination of Dangerfield, Laird, Mitchell, Martin, Cripps and Gawn would have netted you 847 points, before you took captaincy into consideration.
The best total of 2-18 has been 2711, which came last round from mightydees, coached by Andrew.
That record should be shattered today as popular picks such as Jake Lloyd, Isaac Heeney, Andrew Gaff, Justin Westhoff and Ollie Wines push some coaches as close to the promised land of 3000 points.
