Some are trading Gawn in.
Some are trading Gawn out.
True story!
Yep, it’s a crazy year! I’m pretty set on trading Gawn in!

A few things running through my head:

1. Im feeling like many trade plans are going to be blown apart by who actually gets selected this week.

2. Setting the side up to be making cash is always the goal early so I'll be trading in those who have the most upside this round, and trading out those who don't

3. Even with 2. in mind, I'm not sideways trading in prems for cash tho eg Viney, seems a trap to me. I also skipped bont/dunkley so not having a forced hand either.

4. It's still a 17 round season, and 1 year my trades ran out end rd 15. Before finalising trades, how many are thinking of the long term impact? A Sideways trade is still a side ways trade...

I'm trying to pause and think through my strategy first, trades second. I'm not the greatest player but had s good first round and hoping to avoid the knee jerk trades i will regret later on. So with that... first ill trade out any rookies who aren't named for playing rookies. Then Freo Brayshaw for either another rookie or perhaps Simpkin who is going up in $$$. Then hold.

Anyone thinking similar? Or am i miles of the mark???

Despite having a limited experience of AFL SC (1 full season), I'm treating the use of my trades exactly like a Rd 2/3 situation where we would normally have 4 trades to correct rookies and potential mid-rangers out of favour/unforeseen circumstances.

Currently mulling over the following 5 trades (reasoning attached):

OUTS
Guthrie (biggest mistake I made getting him in Rd 1, correction to Hill)
BZT (Assuming he's not going to be named with Essendon close to full strength in defensive line)
J.J. Kennedy (without playing at home for the next month, and against some decent competition bar the Suns first match, I'm wary of his run being quite lean, going to use the cash elsewhere and grab a cheapie forward to boost cash gen)
Naitanui (Trying to create extra cash gen and move the cash elsewhere to create another premium player)
T.Green (Assuming he isn't picked for the Giants this week. If picked, then I'll have to have a look at the rest of my options and possibly settle on 4 trades rather than 5)

INS

Hurn (Has been getting a bit of chatter on this thread and rightly so. He seems the type of player to be ultra consistent with the shortened quarters. Potential lean match vs the Suns but you never know how a game will pan out defensively after such a long break)
Naismith (Creates near on 200K extra cash for me to upgrade in future weeks after a cow or two has fattened, plus will more than likely be around the mark that Naitanui was going to be anyway. No brainer for me at this point)
Sturt (If selected, has to be one of my trade ins. Spewing I didn't grab him in the first place as he was in the majority of my drafts up until very late in the piece)
Bennell (Risky, but could pay off big if he strings a few games together)
S.Hill (If he plays, he gives me flexibility with Brander with his DPP FWD/DEF. Fingers crossed he does play so I don't need to think about grabbing him later on at the expense of another trade)

If the above 5 trades go ahead, I'll have the following squad:

DEF: Hurn, Laird, Sicily, Docherty, Roberton, Noble (S. Hill, Starcevich)
MID: Neale, J.Kelly, Cripps, Bontempelli, Oliver, Rowell, M.Picket, McInerney (T.Brown, Bennell, M.Hibberd)
RUC: Grundy, Naismith (B.Williams)
FWD: D.Martin, Petracca, D.Smith, Brander, Sturt, C.Taylor (M.King, Budarick)

Obviously a few headaches potentially for my benchies (namely Budarick, B.Williams, Starcevich and Hibberd) but I'll ride the wave and hopefully maximise my points by having a donut on each line!

In respect of the Eagles players I am wary about them playing in QLD. I have Gaff but despite a 119 in Rd 1 I am trading him to Neale because his Qld record is poor. However if it is possible I will be more than happy to trade him back in as an upgrade when the Eagles get back to Perth Stadium. A number of Eagles players seem to improve considerably at the new stadium. Gaff and Hurn are examples and I can see Gaff maybe dropping to a handy price before playing a string of games at home and going on a tear.

Yeah - I don't think anyone else is going to be as silly as me, so don't mind announcing. I mean, I have gone down this No Gawndy rabbit hole, so am deciding to keep going and not look back.

Cash Grab! - Will likely move on the one of the lowest BE and replace with one of the highest BE. Macrae for Viney and BZT for Jacobs into R3 while swinging current R3 Williams into the backline for a loophole.

Leaves 3 trades for Rookie corrections - Can only see Sturt at this stage, but may be tempted to take a one-weeker if there are more than two on the horizon.

Im thinking with price rises after 2 rounds played will o***et the shorter season. I will be staying away from the mid price madness. Have allowed once luxury trade Dunkley to Mitchell., others will be rookies. Missed sturt RD1 so that’s trade 2. Now waiting for teams to drop.
