Cash : $5,200

Initial thoughts are Wilmot > Mitchell, if Wagner gets named I might just take him for Roberts. Worried about rookie cash generation with Chesser & Roberts injured, Constable in the reserves & Rowston borderline best 22/ playing fwd mostly.

Can't get Day without using a boost which I don't want to do - next week the priority is to get Oliver for Setterfield probably.

Open to any ideas (y)

Thought on Luke Ryan? Started strong and has kept it up. 3rd rank Defender and 6th rank overall.

a solid option. finished last year strong and his form has continued.
timing isn’t great though. he’s close to max price and there’s so much value available this week.
that and he’s prone to throwing in the odd shocker so could well be got for less at a later date.

Contemplating what to do this week.

Thinking McKenna, Wilmot and ? to Day, Mitchell and Cincotta.

Feel like this is a pivotal week for my team, so fielding any thoughts... View attachment 56134
Bumping this, penny for your thoughts (not really, I only have 13,100 in the bank before trades.

McKenna, Wilmot and Hollands to Mitchell, Cincotta and Serong puts me in a position where Van Rooyen/Green, Ashcroft, McVee/Cincotta and Ginbey/Mitchell (and Sheezel, but I'm backing him in) are my only rookies on field. From there it's time to deal with Bowes...

To be fair, you should take out both his upper and lower outlier scores, which leaves you with a 98 and a 107.
This isn't really enough to decide if he's a good pick or a trap. Sort of in the 'go with your gut' range.
Round one was so out of character for Will Day. Watching him play, I was shocked at how bad he was that day. Out of character ball usage... Since then, I see the class ball usage again, but what's developed is his inside contested work. Really classy and clean. Added his already strong overhead marking and courageous play, I can see a lot of upside in Will Day

Wilmot to Mitchell makes sense.

Just not sure Wagner has the JS you are looking for to justify the very small profit from the trade. I could be wrong however 😊

I like the plan of Setters to Oliver next week, and as long as you are comfortable you’ll have enough bank to execute the trade next week, then I don’t see any issue with holding fire on making just the one trade this week.

The other thing to consider is, given your limited options on the mid bench, I think if Laird misses you may need to swing Rozee/Taranto/dunks/gulden into the mids, so you’ll probably need to keep Roberts to facilitate that….I think

When it comes to Day, sometimes you have to just back in a player having a breakout season in a new position to continue their form. Anyone who ignored Sinclair last year because they thought he wouldn't sustain his scoring were burnt.

Maybe Day doesn't end up a top 6 defender, but based on what I've seen from him so far, for $450k I'm happy to roll the dice. At worst he makes another $60k-$100k and you sideways him to an actual keeper during the byes.

The problem with that strategy this week, is that next weeks crop includes Cincotta, Angwin and Simpson, all of whom look fieldable and have better JS than the Freo rookies IMO,
Simpson will be interesting.

Career game count of :-

5 , 1 , DNP , 6 , 3 , DNP (as per Footywire)

Highly rated though

Angwin was a late change for Lloyd , not sure that gives him better JS

This is the thinking I've based my Rowell selection off. Although it is much more speculative based off a key injury within the team offering further opportunities.

Am already a Day owner otherwise would speculate on Day ahead of Rowell but when such a lowly rank you need to try something.

The Laird news solidifies my thinking about using another boost to bring Clarry into the team, leaves me with Dutchy as cover. Problem is having to bring in Sturt in the Fwds and fielding him or JVR.

I think a lot are fielding a Green or JVR after probably flipping Sheezel and/or JZ to the back line. Otherwise it'll be a defender rookie or two. At this stage I'd probably rather field a JVR and/or Green on recent form.

Yeah, at this stage of the season rookies still have to be fielded somewhere, been trying to upgrade/downgrade bench rookies over the last couple of weeks and keeping the 'better' rookies on field whilst still maintaining reasonable cover, Libba out this week and potentially Laird means it's vital

Possibly:

JHF, Mckenna, Ashcroft too Coniglio, Day, Concotta

Will leave me at:

Dacios, Ridley, Ziebell, Sheezel, Michalanney, Mitchell (Cowan, Constable)
Oliver, Bontempelli, Parish, LDU, Petracca, Day, Hopper, Baker (Wilmot, Cincotta, Chesser)
Darcy, Marshall (Madden)
Dunkley, Coniglio, Gulden, Taranto, Rozee, Rategulea (JVR, Roberts)

Not sure where the cash is going to come from for remaining upgrades.

Hopefully Wilmot holds his spot, will loophole Baker and Wilmot in M8 and Cincotta and Mitchell in D6 (where possible)

Half your luck, I can’t remember a season that has been so testing with regards to premium injuries early and poor cash generation. I’ve got very few rookies making any money and feel like week to week it’s Matter of just keeping my head above water. In RDT after missing Green last week and all the usual suspects like Docherty, Kelly etc this week I could be missing all of Laird, Brayshaw and Miller. Doing my head in for sure.

Oh don't worry, I've been belted around the sphincter too, held Day, held Green, don't want to go through all of the others because my therapist said to move on.
Nonetheless, I think it's vital to keep rookies on the field that have the best job prospects and no real threat of being subbed (Ginbey excepted). I've been watching everyone trading out Ginbey/Ashcroft/Chandler/McKenna etal and wondering how or where the cover is coming from. From my perspective, I'm hoping that holding those guys gives me a POD, gotta hang my hat on something I spose.

Boost would likely involve McKenna to Sturt/Wagner
View attachment 56149
Then Wilmot to Cincotta next round and possibly another rookie downgrade could mean the final boost used in RD8 or delay the trade until RD9 to save a boost as two premiums will likely come in for Phillips and Ashcroft (eg Sicily/Sinclair and Rozee) before the end of RD9.
Changed again, this time
Out: Horne-Francis, Phillips and Cowan
In: S Coniglio, S Mitchell and S Sturt
