Great win @Crowls. Hope you go all the way, though you’ve got a fair obstacle in @stephen to overcome first!

Good luck to all the quarter finalists. Will be watching with great interest.

Thanks again @mike89 for all the work involved in running this competition.
Thanks Foxy, long haul to the end of the road and plenty of very good coaches ahead. "One round at time" :):)

Quarter final results!

qf.JPG

Congratulations to our four semi finalists - @kennychao , @Wheedus , @stephen and @kakarot ! All within just a few hundred points so here's hoping for some hard fought semis!

Interestingly, of the four, Wheedus is the only one not to have made the Dominator League so far. However, he's on the highest overall score - perhaps making him a slight favourite to get a GF berth and an automatic spot!

@stephen I reckon you've got me covered. My season of Terminator consistency is going to collapse in a screaming heap in Rd14. Currently looking at fielding a max of 15 (and that's the best case scenario)
Woohoo! The two sweetest words in the English language, Bye Round!

Generally not in favour of changing rules midstream but by my count there's plenty of rounds to finish the comp off without playing through the byes, so personally I would be happy to start the Semis in RD15, if everyone preferred that, including @mike89

That's very generous of you but we've already had the quarter finals decided with bye round impact so it would be unfair to change things now. Let the chips fall where they fall. I'll just have to pull out all the stops in 13 and 15!

Not gonna lie, I've had similar thoughts if this were to run again next year, either having one round of this go through all three bye rounds or to skip them entirely (possibly by either shortening the first round, or just starting from round 3, if the byes stayed in the same spot). I hadn't considered changing it for this season but the changes to the fixture in the next two weeks do make it a reasonable consideration. Any strong thoughts from @kennychao and @kakarot ?

Gotta say keeping a tab on this comp has been pretty fun, and I'm stoked to have a place in the Dominator League next season. Shout out to @Tex for the concept and kudos to @mike89 for gunning it since taking over. Prior to Round 1 was a busy time and when I entered my loose thoughts were "I'll help get these guys up to 64 entrants" haha.

A bit unsure what we should do here since we did already use a bye round. Hmm. I'll go with anything though.

Personally I’m not fussed, but considering we have the Lee-way & option of making the call for a full team for 1 round v full team for 3 round run for the semi’s, I think it’s not a bad idea

The idea of 2 rounds of best 18 (r14 is just gonna be horrific for everyone) & 1 round of full 22 is honestly less pleasant than compared 3x rounds of 22

I haven’t looked at matchup / teams (to see who is advantaged/not) but I’m sure we’d be able to win/lose without a bitter taste in our mouths if it was non-bye affected scores

I also acknowledge that the first bye week was accounted for (I was probably disadvantaged, a mediocre 1874), but perhaps that’s something to look at changing next year? (Skipping byes completely)

In short, wouldn’t mind moving semi’s to 15/16/17 (final will be 18/19/20), so we are all on a reasonably similar playing field, if that was an option

But if we play through byes, so be it 🙂

In terms of being disadvantaged, would any of the 4 results change if both teams in the matchup had scored the same score the last round (first bye)? (I’m unsure, haven’t looked)

Would eliminate the unfair part I suppose in relation to the byes (and the 4 of us that made it here) and make more of a possibility of bypassing these next 2 rounds

Well, that seems like a slam dunk. Semis will start R15. Thanks for putting it on the table @stephen .

Slight adjustment to the Dominator league too then: the original plan called for 16 round winners and the two finalists. However, three of the four semi finalists are already in, so there's only one spot up for grabs there. So round winners will be inducted through to round 17, at which point the last spot will go to @Wheedus if he makes the final, or the round 18 winner if he doesn't, or if he has already qualified as a round winner.

I'm not a huge fan of changing the rules midway through either but this seems eminently sensible in the circumstances. Good luck with the byes, and we'll see you in a couple of weeks!

-----------
For next year, with the same amount of entrants and assuming we have high confidence the season won't be disrupted, I would, with the knowledge gained from this season, set the six legs up as R3-5, 6-8, 9-11, 15-17, 18-20, 21-23, skipping the opening adjustment rounds and the byes altogether. In the event it had enough interest for a seventh leg, the option would be there for either a two round opening leg or one leg encompassing all three byes.

Could even run R1-2 as wildcard/play-in round if we have too many entrants but not enough for a full extra round? I mean we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it but anyway

Thanks again for running the comp @mike89 - it’s much appreciated (not sure how I even fluked it to final 4)

Far too good @stephen
Thanks Mike for running the comp. Interesting comp and easy to monitor. I know it is all fun, but even at 62 losing still sucks . I keep thinking what else can I do, what should I have not done?:geek: The search for continuous improvement. :coffee:

Well if anything's gonna make me feel better about a score of 1700 it's that! That really was a monster score in a nightmare of a round.

Back in action with the semi finals from Thursday night!
