To prove that nothing bad ever happens to Hawks supporters and North never win anything @Hawk41 takes the bragging rights in the R24 Elite 18 trial by 19 points from @Beg2Differ. @7/11 was 2 points further back in 3rd. Interestingly the whole field was covered by 133 points which is less than I would have expected. The lowest scoring counting player was 90 points which is higher than I would have expected.

Thanks to those that participated and it went pretty well from my perspective. There are a few things I want to think about but I am inclined to run with this concept for the finals. Happy to take any thoughts or feedback.

The finals comp will go ahead in the same form as the trial. Note however I am without power currently (like many) and internet is fluky so will post details and forms as soon as I can. I have a feeling it might take a while to get power back.

Finally back in the modern world with electricity and internet and can confirm that the finals comp will go ahead in largely the same format as the round 24 trial. Rules will be as follows with a few small mods or points of emphasis in bold.
  • The objective is to build the highest scoring team of 18 players across the 9 games of the final series.
  • For each game 2 defenders, 2 midfielders, 1 ruck and 2 forwards will be selected.
    • An emergency will also be selected for each line to deal with late outs.
    • I have also taken some licence in the ruck position (you know because I can ;)) and granted some back up rucks DPP status to provide a few more options in that position.
  • That means across the 9 games a total of 18 defs, mids & fwds and 9 rucks will be selected.
  • The final team of 18 would comprise the following.
    • 6 highest scores for defenders
    • 5 highest scores for midfields
    • 1 highest score for rucks
    • 6 highest scores for forwards
    • Note however that any single player can only be used once in the final 18 players.
      • This will be more relevant in the finals where some players will play multiple games. This applies even if the player is selected in different positions. For example Isaac Heeney can not fill a forward spot and a mid spot in the same final team.
      • In the event that a player qualifies to occupy more than one spot in a team then the spot that they will occupy will be the one that maximises the score for that team and this will depend on the respective scores for that player as well as the next best score in the relevant positions.
      • To be clear there is no rule that says you can't pick a player that is already part of your best 18 however it does mean that your score can only increase if that player exceeds his score in your best 18 rather than the lowest score in that position.
  • To avoid any doubt there is no captain so no double points scorer.
Like the comps of a similar nature I have run before in BBL this comp is designed to be less frustrating in that only 18 of 63 scores will count so low scores by selected players are not as costly.

Links to selection forms are below. Note that I have only included players that were part of the round 24 teams as well as players who were injured and suspended in round 24 and may be selected. I will be update the forms as teams are finalised however late ins will not be able to be selected.

Port Adelaide v Geelong (google.com)
Western Bulldogs v Hawthorn (google.com)
Sydney v GWS (google.com)
Brisbane v Carlton (google.com)

You don't have to have participated in the trial to enter for the finals and am actually hoping we get a few more jump in. Happy to take any queries. Good luck and enjoy.
