SCS SUPERCOACH ULTIMATE

Ready now for the ultimate coaching challenge? Try our signature format: an ultimate league. Like keeper leagues, you keep players from year to year. But this time, you award them multi-year contracts at a set salary for up to ten years in the future.

Contract decisions are made in the off season, when you'll decide which players to keep and for how long you want to put them on contract. Contracts are binding: you must continue to pay their salaries until the contracts expire, or you trade them away.

Contracts may be traded in and out. In fact, if you find a contract oppressive, you may actually pay another team owner to take a player and his contract off your hands. When you trade contracts in this manner, it decreases the money you have available for paying salaries in the next year, so you'll have less money to spend on free agents and at the annual league draft.

You're the Coach, Recruiter and Football manager all rolled into one.

We're seeking expressions of interest for at least two positions in this league, which will begin drafting next week.
It's a multi year/ongoing commitment, and participants are expected to be involved throughout the year. See below posts for some details.

If after reading the posts and rules you are interested please indicate in this thread.

Time commitment will be a common question, so I'll put an answer in here and Tim will add his thoughts as well.

Weekly during the season
  • Approximately 15 minutes to check the selected teams on Thursday, and finalised Sunday teams on Friday, and enter your team in the Google sheet
  • From time to time you might get a trade offer for your players. Something you can ponder in your spare time and respond to when you have a moment. This is not a weekly occurrence.
THE DRAFT
The will be split up into several phases.
  • The first 60 players: Auction
  • 2017 Draft Class: Modified Auction
  • 2018 and 2019 Draft Classes
  • Remaining players: Split into 3 phases 10 rounds, 10 rounds and 10+ rounds until completed

The first 60 players: Auction
  • Preparation. These are the players we all know well. They are 95+ averaging and we have considered them all. You will need to decide how much you are prepared to pay for them. Most likely how much above their current price and how long the contract will be, and which players you would really like to target and which you will settle for if you miss on your targets. (1 hour to as much as you like)
  • Auction Draft. 60 by 2 minutes each takes us to 2 hours minimum. Best to be able to set aside 3 hours. This will be the biggest time commitment.
  • After auction. Determine contract structure and enter into table. 15-20 minutes. This will need to be done prior to the next phase.
2017 Draft Class: Modified Auction
  • Preparation: You will need which players to target and how many years you are prepared to give them. There prices are pre-determined in table form. (30 - 60 minutes)
  • Modified Auction Draft. 40 players will take approximately 60 - 80 minutes.
  • After modified auction. Determine contract structure and enter into table. 15-20 minutes. This will need to be done prior to the next phase.
2018 and 2019 Draft Classes
  • Preparation. Rookies from the previous 2 seasons. We should all know most of them. You are drafting in the order given. You will need to decide which, if any, players you are prepared to draft. Contract years and prices are pre-determined. 30 minutes
  • Draft. 80 selections including passes. 60 - 80 minutes
  • After draft. Determine contract years and enter into table. 15-20 minutes. This will need to be done prior to the next phase.
Remaining players: Split into 3 phases 10 rounds, 10 rounds and 10+ rounds until completed
  • Preparation. Determine the needs of your side to be filled by the remaining players and the possible length of years for your contract. Their prices are pre-determined. Ordering the spread sheet or some such process. 2 hours or so
  • Draft: There is 300+ players to draft at approximately a minute each. 5 hours or so. We will definitely split this into multiple session. You will enter contract years as you go along.
  • After draft. Determine contract years and enter into table. 15-20 minutes per phase . This will need to be done prior to the next phase.
That should give you some idea the time commitment.

Goodie's Guns

Given Ken has provided a fantastic run down above I will just add some further thoughts in regards to the week-to-week happenings.

The weekly team selection is very simple as noted above, some coach's in our other league enter their side in as soon as the doc is sent out and then review and adjust post the AFL team announcements. Whilst others like to wait until the AFL teams are announced before putting their side into the doc.

Aside from thinking about your players form and team selection heading into the round, the only other things to consider weekly are...
  • Match Centre (N/A)
    • e.g. Checking Live Scores. We usually try to update scores straight after the AFL games when possible.
    • Simply just opening the Team Submission GoogleSheet, no different to going to the SC website.
  • Round Review (Anytime Post Round)
    • e.g. A quick look at the Weekly Results & Ladder, which are also posted in the group chat.
  • Forum Content (N/A)
    • Not compulsory, but highly encouraged as it brings great banter and fun to the league, coach's often like to produce game reviews or player profiles, etc to build 'a story'. Time and effort put in up to the individual, but it's fantastic.
  • Trades/List Management (Sporadic)
    • Proposing/Receiving Offers
  • List Development & Tracking (Depends on the Individual)
    • Most coach's will have their own preferences as to how they want to track how each player on their list is going
    • e.g. I have an excel doc setup which automatically inputs my players weekly SC scores so I'm tracking their form.
    • e.g. Other items include players age, contract years, salary, past SC averages, "Tradeable/Not Tradeable" and a place for me to put any injury news or other general comments. Additionally I spend maybe 10mins a week on the FootyLive app looking through how my blokes playing reserves footy went on the weekend, etc.
    • e.g. I also like to track any possible players I might like to target for a trade, or players who impress me in the U18's comps.

Obviously the more you put in the more you get out. We know the initial draft/auction is going to be time consuming but incredible to be apart of. But in terms of time commitment after that it's really nothing too over the top, maybe just fine tuning the best way for you as an individual to track your players and things like that might take some time to perfect initially.

Hope that helps a little bit for anyone unsure. Although I guarantee a time will come when you're just going about your day as normal and you'll instinctively stop to check the NEAFL stats of some random Swans rookie on your list who is yet to play an AFL game. Hahahahaha :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Oh my! This is what we love to see. Fantastic debut content from Philzsay.

EDIT: Although I'm not sure whether to not expect an announcement given it's Tom Browne reporting it.

In other words, we will be notified of the team name in 48 hours and Vietnamese takeaway was consumed. ;)

Co-founder and CEO of SCS Supercoach Ultimate KLo30 announces his team name, ground and logo.

I'm proud to formally announce the pride of Far North Queensland:

Jabukanji Stingers

You can come by plane; you can come by road or you can come by boat. You can come to act with your fists clenched, teeth gritted and your eyes narrowed, ready to kick ass and take down The Stingers. Come to it any way but lightly. You must not come lightly to Jabukanji, for the battle ground is the high court, cathedral, war memorial and embassy of the Far North.

Do not be fooled by our size. Our sting is the deadliest in the world. There is no anti venom and the pain you will never forget.

Do not come lightly to play the Jabukanji Stingers!

We're going to need a faster ship. Negotiations are under way with the Trade Federation to use their shuttles.

Good luck dealing with the Neimodians. Also, whilst you're at it, I hear the InterGalactic Banking Clan are offering enticing loans to ensure the viability of the competition.

Dragonsnake Bog is home to some of the specialist training facilities the Immortals will use. The playing stadium is located nearby the Dragonsnake Bog training facilities. Negotiations for official naming rights to the stadium are still ongoing with an interested party, however the locals refer to the playing Oval as 'The Quagmire'.

And to think that the drafting process was supposed to be the most difficult aspect to get our head around. Anyone willing to take care of the liability waivers and contract clauses for my side?

I might take a leaf out of Sunderland’s book to avoid travelling to space (Dagobah).
