Thanks Ken, much appreciated of all the hard work you do, year in and year out!

Btw do you have an approximate date of when you will open up trading? I'm guessing Darkie has enough of them lined up that will keep you busy for a while, lol. 😂

Ha! I had actually assumed that trading was now open, but I’ll await confirmation from Ken!

Trading is open.

I'll clear trades out over the coming weeks a little at a time. Obviously, trying to keep ahead of the pack.

Thanks Ken - nice to be away for another season!

Witherden was a surprise delisting from the Eagles (and hasn’t been picked up), so The Darkness farewells Alex and thanks him for this services.

I ran my eye over the other lists quickly - I think the below may be additional delistings for UL purposes:

@Connoisseur McAndrew
@Goodie's Guns Emmett
@Jordan's Jets Burgiel
@Philzsay Grainger-Barrass and Culley
@Deeman1 Lazzaro and Hunter
@lappinitup Phillips and Bonner

Potentially a few freed up list spots, and some additional cap space, for those coaches.
A Begg and W Hamill delisted as well for my side.

Compare the pair:

18 AFL clubs
x 3+ full time staff in recruitment/list management
x 11+ months since trading was open

= just 3 players traded in Trade Week so far!

versus

10 Ultimate League clubs
x 1 casual list manager
x 3 months since trading was open

= 5+ players set to be traded once trades reopen

If the AFL wants to make Trade Week a bigger event, they may want to consider putting fantasy coaches in charge!

4 Player deal... childs play!

You had 4 players move last week in a trade Darkie.. I want to smash that record. Whats the most in a trade is SCSUL?

I will aim for 8 moving in one trade today...

Very true!

I recall a few big trades from memory:

- @Bomber18 @Connoisseur and I did a three-club trade a couple of years back, which was a good effort. May be the only example of that to date? I believe I received McGovern and Flanders in the deal.

- Rangers and my side did a large deal around this time last year. That was only two clubs, but did involve a lot of different players. That’s how Steele, Heeney and Weddle came my way. Impey, Cox and Allen all made a similar move around that time, and might have been part of the same deal. Guys like Papley, Tuohy, DBJ (returning home), Uwland and Sharp went the other way.

- I know Creme and the Giants have done one or two big trades. I think Mitchell and Sam Berry may have been involved in one of them. Possibly the Grundy trade last year as well?

I think we could beat 8 players, but might need a fraction more time to line it all up 🙂

I will announce an 8 player trade shortly... who needs time!

Can I clarify for player retirements - my understanding was only the amount of salary above the average per year would count towards the cap after the players retirement, to discourage front-ending older players? I had Brad Crouch on $720k per year even (no front or back-ending) and his full salary is still showing in my sheet. Have I got this wrong?

Brad Crouch was rookie listed by Saints for the 2025 season. He has been moved to the long term injury list due to his knee, and announced as a retirement. As he was listed for 2025 his injury/retirement is treated as a long term injury for SCSUL. He can be to the LTI list and up to $410K of his 2025 salary can used for a supplemental player. Had he retired at the end of 2024 i.e. not 2025 listed, his full salary would have been wiped.

Worthwhile checking the fixture before selecting your team over the first six weeks of the AFL season.

For example, 10 AFL team's scores will go to SCSUL Round 1 whilst 6 will go to SCSUL Round 3, which was made up of 12 AFL round 3. So, whilst a player may be injured now they could be available by the time he counts. e.g. Jy Simpkin

This was lasts years fixture for dealing with the byes in the early rounds. There was lots of having to keep an eye on players availability, sometimes weeks in advance, and lots of complicated notes to try and cover all likelihoods. There was a lot of angst involved for all.

I think a simplier solution is to collect the Round 0 scores and use them when those teams have the early bye. All other teams will be a normal week, and there will be only one SCSUL round playing at a time.

Whilst we would know the score for our players, and our opponents, that would mitigate against the angst, confusion and difficulties faced last season, which I think would be a positive overall.

Like it.

In fact, prefer it!

Brilliant!

I meant to mention - in the final AFL round last year, we had lots of strange things going on with player selections, restings, roles etc. I remember posting that I’m glad we didn’t hold the UL GF that round, or it would have been a bit of a raffle.

I suspect it will happen naturally, but I think avoiding that final AFL round is a great move.
