Stef dropped a mark and got awarded a clanger too.

I thought he might avoid a clanger because he was able to easily pick the ball up and get a handball away. However, it turned from (what I assume would have been) an uncontested mark into a contested possession which is probably why he got a clanger for it despite the fact he wasn't under much pressure. Looks like you need the possession to be counted as uncontested after a dropped mark to avoid getting a clanger for it.
I dont think the possession after has any impact. If you drop and easy mark or kick a point when straight in front of go with no pressure, they are all clangers.

May be a stupid question but if you have a player on your bench with the E on him who doesnt play. Does his score of zero become your lowest emergency score?
Cheers
Krak
No expect on this, however, I think that would be ignore and the score of the second emg is taken.

I think if you have that situation just need need to put e on second player.

No, the player would actually have to score - ie. move from 0 - to be counted.

More precisely, he'd have to play; if he did that and scored 0, he'd count as your lowest scoring playing emergency on the line.

I think dropped marks inside 50 might be clangers no matter what. The McCarthy one that Erich mentioned is one example.

The possession after a dropped mark around other areas of the ground definitely has an impact though. The other week (in the Freo game), McStay dropped an easy mark in the back pocket as Brisbane were switching the play. He was in 50m of space and was able to pick the ball up and get his kick away without it really affecting anything. He got no clanger. The same thing happened with Paparone in the same game.

Other times a player will drop a mark and turn an uncontested mark into a contested possession (because an oppo player is able to put pressure on them); those are counted as clangers, eg. the Stefan Martin one I talked about.

May be different interpretation of what is easy dont forget. not sure if the inside 50 matters, have seen CD comment on it though.

Another perfect example just then. Stef dropped an easy uncontested mark on the forward flank, had enough time to pick the ball up and deliver an effective kick inside 50 under no pressure. No clanger recorded for the fumbled mark.

I think Clangers are only recorded, if it actually adversely affects the team. In that situation, Martin's dropped mark had no affect on his team, so no Clanger.

I know. That was my original point, that not all dropped marks are equal.

I've watched the vid below and it's amusing that Dusty got awarded any of these tackles. He was definitely awarded these as AFL statspro has time stamps of when stats are awarded (as this guy also notes). Tackle no.6 was awarded after the siren in a post match adjustment, which probably contributed to Dusty's score being scaled from low 150s to 160! Wonder if CD will be a bit stricter with him since they've been called out?

Hi @championdata and @AFL. Are you able to explain why @DustinMartin4 was awarded seven tackles in Round 2 of the Adelaide v Richmond game?
Using the new AFL stats pro I did a quick and dirty compile of all tackles: https://youtu.be/tGFQ0ZhaRQs

That is absolutely disgusting! If those were all "tackles" then we should be seeing tackle counts of 300+ in games.

I've always been one to have Champion Data's 'back' and give some reasons as to why some players appear to be 'CD favourites', but I don't think any of these 'tackles' should be recorded as a tackle. Most of them ended up in the hands of a teammate, aka an effective handball, which means the tackle is ineffective! Would love CD to reply to this, but I doubt they will. Interesting stuff, thanks for posting.

Yeah.. no response as yet. It's about an extra 25-30 points (and probably more for C) which is a big deal! Especially tackle no.6, as that was added post game!!!

Dusty owner but most of these aren't "tackles". One has to question how they actually consider what is a more subjective action such as a "contested possession" if they're so liberal in their interpretation of tackles.

I've moved these posts because i reckon it's a discussion worthy of its own thread.

I recall a number of us surprised when we saw Dusty's score that game (LITS was one iirc, i was another).

Statistically he had the following:
25 disposals (19 k, 6 hb)
14 contested
3 marks
7(?) tackles
3 frees against
5 goals
7 clearances
4 clangers

A whopping 127 dt :160 sc in a 5 goal loss. Take away the tackles and it works out to be around 100 dt: 160 sc!

I will be really interested to see how they respond. We've known for a while there's a few CD 'favourites', and generally it's just better to have them in your team so you stress less but gee whiz, that's taking it to another level. Absolute joke!

Wow that's pretty amazing those were all tackles (assuming this guy found them correctly).

You do have to wonder about CD's classifications sometimes. For example, short kicks to guys on the lead only count as effective if their teammate marks it (unless it's a super-uncontested dropped mark). Really not a good guide to the quality of the kick.

In any event, not too sure about these favouritism conspiracies! I'd be pretty confident a similar analysis of other players' tackles would produce a similarly sceptical outcome.

I believe there was some debate about this last year or a few years ago and the interpretation was - if you affect the way the ball is eventually disposed (e.g. you 'grab' a player and his handball results in a turnover) then it counts as a tackle. Could be wrong, but the tackles in those video would match this description.

A couple of those "tackles" didn't result in a turnover though.

Taken from earlier in the thread http://www.supercoachscores.com/thr...nts-On-Scoring?p=254628&viewfull=1#post254628

The defensive aspect of SuperCoach is just as important as the offensive.

Teams have lifted in the tackling department with the competition average jumping to 67.4 per game – the second-biggest recorded in any season to date.

A tackle can be defined as using physical contact to prevent an opponent in possession of the ball from getting an effective disposal. If a player has on, two, or more players hanging off him and executes an effective kick or handball, then a tackle will not be awarded.

The most rewarding tackle in SuperCoach is the run down tackle that dispossess a player, or otherwise known as the Cyril Rioli chase-down. This act is rewarded with six SuperCoach points.

A standard tackle, when a player prevents his opponent from disposing of the ball, is worth four SuperCoach points.

If a player is tackled and records a clanger or ineffective disposal — for example, kicking the ball out on the full — the tackler is rewarded with a ‘tackled by’ stat. That is also worth four SuperCoach points.

And Champion Data also records ‘disposessed by’ which applies to players who have won possession but doesn’t get a disposal away.

TACKLES SUPERCOACH POINTS
Run-down tackle dispossessed 6
Tackle 4
Tackle from dispossessed 4
Tackle by 4
