Has there been any word on what Sicily's appeal grounds are?
From the HS...

Hawthorn has appealed James Sicily’s three-match suspension on the grounds the ban tears at the fabric of the game.

The Hawks confirmed on Wednesday they would fight the three-match ban at the AFL appeals tribunal on Monday night in a bid to clear the superstar captain for clashes against Gold Coast, Carlton and GWS Giants.

Hawthorn will challenge Sicily’s tribunal verdict on the basis the tackle which concussed Lion Hugh McCluggage on the wing at the MCG on Saturday did not constitute a rough conduct charge as per the AFL guidelines, and that the classification was inadequate.

It will be alleged Sicily, 28, did not intend to roll McCluggage’s head into the MCG turf in a tackle as teammate Tyler Brockman flew over the top and made contact with the pair.

Interesting.

Here's the rough conduct, dangerous tackle, section from the tribunal guidelines:
» The tackle consists of more than one action, regardless of whether
the Player being tackled is in possession of the ball;
» The tackle is of an inherently dangerous kind, such as a spear tackle
or a tackle where a Player is lifted off the ground;
» The Player being tackled is in a vulnerable position (e.g. arm(s) pinned)
with little opportunity to protect himself;
» An opponent is slung, driven or rotated into the ground with excessive force.

It's not 1, as there's just one action by the tackler (rotation). It's not 2, as grabbing someone just below the waist and spinning them is not inherently dangerous (unless someone else crashes into you). It's not 3, as the arms were not pinned by the tackler.

It might be 4: the opponent is spun around and hits the ground, which fits the last category of being rotated into the ground with excessive force. I guess the argument will be that this wasn't solely caused by the tackler, so you can't suspend him for someone else's actions (Brockman).

Nothing from last night's game on the Wicks blatant forearm to the jaw.

I guess the Lions player wasn't concussed so all good. Right ?

Then you have Sicily great tackle wins the free and gets 3 weeks.
You can clean someone up, and as long as they don't get concussed, you will get less than Sicily. Look at Pickett on Smith earlier this season, which only got 2 weeks.

I am probably biased, but that does seem kind of ridiculous.

Should ask that has the umpire stuffed up person on twitter about the free kick. If that was a legit free, can't see why he gets rubbed out. Haven't heard anyone say the umpires were wrong.

Define "excessive"

more than is necessary, normal, or desirable; immoderate.

I see none of the above in the tackle.

But that's me.....a salty owner.

SYDNEY youngster Sam Wicks has been suspended for two matches for striking Ryan Lester on Friday night.

Wicks was reported for a late, high hit on Lester during the second quarter of his side's 16-point loss to the Lions.

The incident was graded as careless conduct, high impact and high contact.

Tensions boil after Swan's leaping bump connects
Sam Wicks gets reported for collecting Ryan Lester high with this late action
Lester was unleashing a clearing kick from defence when Wicks came over to pressure, left his feet with a raised arm and hit the veteran in the head.

Lester hit the turf for a few seconds and was back to his feet shortly after to continue playing.

Lion Jarrod Berry was also reported during play for a dangerous tackle on Will Hayward in the third quarter but has been cleared to play in next Friday night's match against St Kilda.

Berry didn't have Hayward's arms pinned in the tackle and was seen to be clearly frustrated by the decision.

"It was the view of the MRO that Berry discharged his duty of care in the manner he took Hayward to ground and that his actions were not unreasonable in the circumstances," the AFL said in a statement.

Apart from the report, two weeks suspension and condemnation in the media, it's all clear.

What about the Wicks on Lester incident isn't clear in your eyes?
What I find difficult to understand

Wicks attacks the head of his openant with his forearm flush on the jaw and gets 2 weeks.

Sicily makes a tackle gets the penalty, and gets 3 weeks.??

What isn't clear is the inconsistency in suspensions.

In my eyes nothing wrong with the tackle. Won the free, Suitcase could of release the ball and protected his fall, but no he choose to milk the free kick.

The Wicks incident was more violent in my eye. Now what if Lester jaw was broken, does wick then recieve a longer suspension.?

The DeGoey shoulder charge 3 weeks and rightly so that was dangerous .Sicily recieves the same suspension time as DeGoey, for a tackle that recieves an onfield free.

No consistency by the tribunal.

If one holds a view that Sicily did no wrong, and McCluggage was at fault because he chose to milk a free kick, then I can see why one has difficulty reconciling tribunal outcomes.
