Reckon it's even better to keep political opinions out of a footy thread.
It's not a political opinion, it's a tv show opinion.
Can't see where I mentioned anything political at all.
Would you care to point out where the political part was?

YOUNG tall Will Gould and tough midfielder Ryan Clarke are among six players delisted by Sydney as the Swans look to revitalise their list during the trade period.

Gould, Clarke, Hugo Hall-Kahan, Cameron Owen, Lachlan Rankin and Marc Sheather have all been axed by the Swans, making it nine player departures following the retirements of Lance Franklin, Paddy McCartin and Tom Hickey.

WHO’S CALLED IT QUITS 2023’s retirements and delistings

It comes after the Swans picked up free agents James Jordon and Joel Hamling, while Brodie Grundy and Taylor Adams are also set to join the club during the trade period.

Gould, a second-round pick in the 2019 draft, played just four senior games for the Swans, all of them this year.

Clarke played 57 games for the club after joining from North Melbourne in 2019, including the 2022 Grand Final.

Sheather played three senior games this year before his season was ended by a foot injury.

None of Hall-Kahan, Owen and Rankin managed to make their AFL debuts at the club.

"This time of the year is always tough when difficult list management decisions need to be made," said Swans footy boss Charlie Gardiner.

"Ryan, Will, Marc, Lachie, Hugo and Cam have all made valuable contributions to the Swans. We are very grateful for their hard work and dedication to our football program.

"On behalf of everyone at the club, we wish each player all the very best for their futures and we hope they continue to work towards maximising their football potential."

The AFL seriously needs to stop with these compensation picks... Why should 16 other teams be penalized because 1 team can't hold onto their own player.

The compensation should be the salary cap space that is now able to be used elsewhere.

West Coast who where described throughout the season as one of the worst sides ever... and who's second pick should have been Pick 19... Will now likely have that pick slide back close to the 30's and thus have access to only around the 30th best talent... That is just plain stupid and makes it extremely hard to build a competitive list and improve quickly.

THE WESTERN Bulldogs have landed one of the big assets of the trade period, acquiring Gold Coast's prized pick No.4 in a swap confirmed on Monday.

The Dogs have beaten out a strong field of interest for the Suns' selection, which has been on the market all year due to the club's star Academy prospects.

Gold Coast had to trade the selection knowing it would otherwise have been absorbed by a bid on top-three talent Jed Walter, who is tied to the Suns' Academy.

TRADE
EXPLAINER: Why pick No.4 is up for grabs, and who might get it

It has seen the Bulldogs trade their two first-round picks this season – No.10 and 17 – as well as their first-round pick in 2024 in exchange for the Suns' pick No.4.

The Suns have also traded the Bulldogs their third-round picks this year – No.46 and 51, both bumped back a spot by the Tom Doedee compensation pick – to ensure the Dogs have extra points to match a bid for father-son talent Jordan Croft, who is tied to the Bulldogs this year. The Suns have also traded their future third-round pick to the Dogs as part of the deal.

It leaves the Dogs in the sweet spot of the top-end talent, with small goalkicker Nick Watson and midfield jet Ryley Sanders likely to be strongly considered for the pick, which will be the earliest pick the Dogs have held since Marcus Bontempelli was selected at No.4 in 2013.

The Bulldogs' pursuit of Gold Coast's pick No.4 and strong deal they put forward was due to the fact a bid for Croft could come before their first selection, meaning they needed to get in ahead of where a bid would fall that would have taken up their early picks.

It is why they have been prepared to add the future first-rounder to the mix to beat big competition for the selection, with Adelaide, Melbourne, Essendon, Sydney and North Melbourne having shown interest at different stages in the pick through the year.

The Suns will now listen to offers for pick No.10 – with Adelaide and Melbourne both interested in the selection – as they look to accrue more points to match bids for Walter and fellow Academy players Ethan Read, Jake Rogers and Will Graham.

Yeah I massively agree. I find the whole stance from North of "if we aren't getting pick 3 compensation we'll match" to be a huge red flag for how broken the system is. Either he's a required player and you match, or he's not and you let him go. But playing it off against the compensation is ridiculous.
If they get pick 3 for McKay, 17 clubs should collectively down tools and protest!

This is another thing the AFL has completely wrong in my opinion. Been doing a lot of thinking lately on ways to make things a lot fairer for all clubs, and make the draft far less compromised. It's never going to be perfect... But it can be a lot fairer to all.

Gold Coast is blessed with an academy producing top end talent year on year that no other team has access to, and are allowed to trade out these top picks for picks a lot lower... whilst still getting their academy kids, and with a 20% discount on top as well. 3 of them are currently projected as top 10 picks this year.

A much fairer solution to all other teams is still let them have their academy, but make them match any bid with a pick within 5-6 spots of where the bid lands, so say Jed Walter is bid on with Pick 1... then Gold Coast have to match the bid on him with a pick in the 6-7 range. If they don't have a pick in that range then it encourages them to trade up for picks in the range of where they think their academy kids are projected to go. And they also shouldn't receive a 20% discount, their benefit over most other clubs is being able to match a bid on any academy kid. Still a big advantage.

The same goes for Father/Son picks... I love the idea that a son can play for the club his old man did. It's unique in world sport and good for the game... But the days of trading top picks away for a bunch of trash picks that are then bundled together and used to draft elite top end talent should be over, as should the 20% discount. Same should apply as I suggested for academy picks in that you need a pick within 5-6 picks of where a club predicts their father/son to be bid on. No discount should apply, with the clubs benefit being you are able to get a father/son to your club.

Making these two changes as well as abolishing compensation picks would immediately clean up the draft and make things a lot fairer for all clubs than they currently are. Clubs with Academy and Father/Son prospects would still most likely get their players, but would be forced to use fair picks for that elite talent or force them trade up to get picks for to take who they are chasing.

Rant over, lol

Totally agree. The discount is an absolute joke.
