West Coast has signed up No. 1 pick Harley Reid’s great mate Jason Gilbee to play WAFL next year in another adventure for the milk-loving former GWS rookie.

Giants rookie Gilbee went viral this year after admitting he had replaced his entire water intake with milk, dubbed “Milky” by coach Shane Mumford after drinking up to 10 litres a week.

Category B rookie Gilbee was delisted after only a season as a 191cm running midfielder and was at Marvel Stadium as part of Reid’s entourage on Monday night to see him selected as the No. 1 overall pick.

Gilbee told this masthead on Sunday he was keen to try new life experiences and also push his AFL aspirations playing with the Eagles’ WAFL side.

But living with Reid – who has quashed any talk about homesickness after signing a mandatory three-year deal — can only help the brilliant mid-forward settle in under Adam Simpson’s care.

It is a canny move by the Eagles, who will ensure Reid is surrounded by friends while also giving former Bendigo Pioneers teammate Gilbee a football lifeline in the WAFL after he was shocked to be delisted.

With Harley coming over to Perth it probably got me over the line but I wanted to have a few life experiences too,” he said as he arrived in Perth for a pre-Christmas fact finding mission.

“So I have come over and will try something different. Obviously there is that connection (with Harley) but they were keen though to get me over to see what I was doing. They are keen to have me over, not just as Harley’s mate.”
Gilbee and Reid established a firm friendship through their Coates League careers, with Reid often bunking down at the Gilbee family house in Bendigo if he needed a place to stay on football duties.

Found this on another forum and thought some might find of interest regarding every clubs list profile after the draft...

Some interesting things to note...

Despite all the media's claims West Coast need to split draft picks and that the rebuild has only just started... They currently have the most amount of players in the 17-21 bracket in the whole competition.

Collingwood seem to have the perfect split of youth, emerging talent, players in their prime and veterans.

It's very much go time at Carlton with the majority of their list in the emerging talent bracket and in their prime.

North has the majority of their list under 25 years old with very few players in their prime or of veteran status.

RICHMOND has invited East Perth forward Mitch Schofield and New Zealander Mykelti Lefau to train with the club during the pre-season supplemental selection period (SSP).
The pair started training with Adem Yze's squad on Monday morning – beginning life at Punt Road with the 2km time trial – and are expected to be given until at least Christmas to earn a shot on the rookie list.

IT WAS the St Kilda trade decision that likely cost West Coast drafting Dan Curtin last week.

In the lead-up to the first round of the AFL Draft last Monday night, all attention centred on Curtin's landing spot and Greater Western Sydney's pick No.7. With Curtin projected to slide, the Giants had multiple offers from five clubs for the pick.

One was from the Eagles, who were willing to trade their future first-round pick for the Giants' selection this year.

The Giants looked at all options but had decided they wanted to prioritise drafting small forward Phoenix Gothard. They proposed a trade with the Saints, which would have seen the Giants give up pick 16 and a future second-round pick to take the Saints' pick 13.

That would have put the Giants ahead of North Melbourne, who had a level of interest in Gothard, as well as the Saints, who were also in the mix for the Murray Bushrangers prospect, and all but lock GWS in to grab the goalkicker

If that deal had gone through, the Giants would then likely have accepted the Eagles' offer of their future pick – which could be a top-three pick next season – and allowed West Coast to couple Harley Reid with a Curtin coup. But the Saints said no to the Giants, conscious that a slide of three spots would risk their access to Darcy Wilson given Adelaide and North's interest after their selection.

My first reaction is GWS have themselves in a bloody good position given they missed a GF by a kick in 2023
