One potential upside of this approach is some of the price rises/drops will be staggered instead of all at one time. Few of the teams with the early by can be grabbed post bye without having gone up in price (thinking the round 2/3 bye teams). The downside is having to potentially grab someone with a round 5/6 bye before they shoot up in price but with a bye still to come..

Picking starting premiums from 10 teams it is then.

Rookies are a different story as won’t particularly matter if a few have the byes early.

Getting one look at rookie priced players from the teams that play round zero is a plus.
With Gawn & Grundy playing Opening Round, Xerri might be a real option with no Goldy now to pair with English/Marshall potentially

Star Tiger in career-best shape, forward's recovery on track

https://www.afl.com.au/news/1072700...st-shape-forward-tom-lynchs-recovery-on-track

Dustin Martin is smashing personal bests in the gym in an ominous sign ahead of the 2024 season

Richmond star Dustin Martin is setting personal records in the gym and inspiring his Tigers teammates in his 15th pre-season.

The triple Norm Smith medallist is determined to prove to new Richmond coach Adem Yze he remains one of the League's elite players.

Yze is just the second full-time coach Martin has had after being led by Damien Hardwick in his debut season in 2010 until the middle of this year.

Martin, who is entering the final year of his seven-season contract, suffered a heavy knock during Richmond's training camp in Gippsland but was later cleared of concussion.

Tigers defender Jayden Short insisted Martin had returned from the off-season break in "unbelievable" shape in an ominous sign for the rest of the competition.

“When you get a new coach, everyone's got to impress again," Short said at Punt Rd on Tuesday.

"It's been good for our young boys, they get to impress a new coach and certainly us older boys as well.

"The way Dustin showed up was amazing.

"He's coming into his 15th year of AFL and he's setting PBs (personal records) in the gym and his running's certainly always improving as well.

"He's a great role model for everyone at this football club and I'm just lucky that I get to play alongside him and get to watch him go about his business every day.

"It makes us all want to get better when you see one of the best players in the competition always trying to get better.

"It's hard not to want to better yourself, he's an awesome footballer, but an even better person so we're very lucky."

Key forward Tom Lynch is slowly working his way back into training, taking part in modified drills during a session in front of the Punt Rd faithful on Tuesday night.

Lynch was ruled out for the remainder of the 2023 season after injuring his foot against the Western Bulldogs in round four.

“It's been a long time for Tom and for anyone who has spent a long time in rehab it's pretty painful," Short said.

"But his attitude throughout the whole time has been second to none.

"Just rocking up every day with a smile, he's been amazing.

"It's good to see him back running and I'm looking forward to being able to kick it to him again."
Hear it every year.

Dusty one of the few players who can change the course of a game. One of the best.

This is something that I've been trying to get my head around, meaning at what point is a value premo disregarded?

I'm looking at starting Grundy and Gawn because I think that their value outweighs the points lost due to their early byes. I think that those 2 are inside the top 4 rucks in the comp with both of them being a good chance to be in the top 2.

Looking at Grundy first, is 115PPG a possibility? Maybe, so I'll use that number. He misses rnd 5 which means the 19th score comes on field (assuming he's the only bye player in the team for that rnd) I'd think that score would be around 70 so 45-55 pts lost. But I've saved $160k on having him over Marshall to be spent somewhere else which could generate 10-15PPG which matches or even beats the loss of pts because of his bye.

Gawn is pretty much in the same boat if comparing starting him as opposed to English, there's a $130k saving there and if combined with Grundy's saving then that's nearly $300k, effectively adding another value premo pick over a rookie on field. There's an added bonus with that value pick as their score would count inside the best 18 scores over the 4 bye rounds.

*Edit............Grawndy could each be upgraded (if deemed necessary) before their byes thereby negating the loss of points.

The reverse of the above scenarios I think applies to the high value premos that have an early bye. Using Daicos as an example, I've not started him and gone for Young instead, the savings gave me Zilliams on field over a bench player like Burgiel (also pushing Gibcus to the bench). Those 2 over Daicos and Burgiel should add more points on field over the first 5 rnds, with again the added bonus of Zilliams scores being inside the best 18 for 3 of the early byes. Daicos also has the Finn matchup in rnd 4 which would tip the scales further, also making him a prime upgrade target in rnd 8

They have just announced what they are doing with opening round :-

KFC SUPERCOACH START 2024
  • The KFC SuperCoach AFL season will begin in round 1, and not in Opening Round.
  • Opening Round stats will be taken into account for price changes and live scoring in some form will be available to SC Plus subscribers during the four matches.
  • It will best 18 scoring for all bye rounds, including the two-team bye weekends in rounds 2, 3, 5 and 6.
  • Any changes in the number of allocated trades will be confirmed in January, along with full gameplay details for 2024.
Well that’s disappointing, not surprising but disappointing.

It's pretty early I know, but do any Hawks supporters on here @randomcliche @Ironhawk have a read on what's going on with the backline? I've read that Amon is training with the backs, if he's one of the outlet distributors then I can see him going 100+ which puts him in Defence keeper territory. If he does play back then does that have a negative impact on Sicily's output? Given that the KPD stocks are thin with Blanck and Frost, would it mean that Sicily is able to concentrate more on being that lockdown defender?

So there's no point picking a squad until round 1.

Not sure I'm a fan of this - so we'll get to see some rookies play before we even need to lock them in along with premiums - going to make for some very similar teams in round 1.

Not really. It's a tough team to pick a starting line up for.

I expect Amon to rotate between half back and wing. Can see D’Ambrosio playing back too. If Hardwick does move forward this year where he has been training, there would need to be someone fill that spot and I would say these two are the most likely.

Scrimshaw, Blanck, Frost, Impey, Sicily, Jiath, Grainger-Barras, Weddle all likely to spend a lot of time in defence, Mitchell and Serong are a chance for games. I've probably forgotten some in that list too.

So what Melbourne players would benefit from the Oliver situation and if he takes an extended period off.

Not that I've had a decent look at the 2024 rules.
Why are people looking at fading Nick Daicos early?
