Richmond spearhead Tom Lynch remains certain he will face his old side in opening round as he gets set to test his worrisome foot by running on grass next week.

And troubled Melbourne star Clayton Oliver is expected to resume training in January after his latest break from football.

Tiger goalkicker Lynch began running on an Alter-G machine in December, which removes some gravity and reduces pressure on the foot that limited him to just four games in 2023.

After surgery in July, it has been a long slog for the forward but he was still steadfast that he will be fit to face his old team and old coach Damien Hardwick when Richmond travels to the Gold Coast for opening round.

“I think it will be fine for (opening round), everything going well. It’s obviously a long way off,” Lynch, 31, told reporters on Wednesday.

“End of Feb, I will be back in full training. I see myself progressing really quickly and getting back up to full speed.

“I’m running on the Alter-G machine so that is going well and then I will progress in the next week to running on grass, so all positive albeit being a little bit conservative at the moment but my strength and everything is really good.”

Lynch joined a handful of stars at the Portsea Pro Am on Wednesday, including Melbourne captain Max Gawn.

Gawn provided an update on Oliver, who left the club’s Lorne training camp early last month.

Oliver started his pre-season late due to post-season knee surgery and has been dealing with health challenges.

But his skipper said Oliver was expected back to training when the Demons return later this month.

“From the last report, (Oliver) is going to join in in and round those January training sessions and hopefully we get a good version of Clarry for the rest of pre-season,” Gawn said.

“I still regularly speak to Clarry, he has his ups and downs but I am just excited for him to get back training and amongst us guys.”

So if Tom Lynch says “End of Feb, I will be back in full training. I see myself progressing really quickly and getting back up to full speed." and the season starts Mar 8 for the Tigers is that enough time to get the feel of playing back and especially in a new coached team with possibly different forward strategies?

Pretty simple for the big man, mark the ball kick the goal. That his strength. If he was 21 i would say no, at his age he knows what he has to do.

It not nuclear physics, it's catch ball and kick it between the big sticks.

He'll do better than what hes priced at how much is probably the question, think its under estimated how important he is to the Geelong system and hes the least positionally flexible of the experienced mids.
Thoughts on Conway getting games mate?

Been tinkering with my 1st of many drafts and am happy with what I have come up with (as per below). If Coleman can become a keeper which I'm hoping he can if he picks up Rich role of kick outs, I think this team gives me 13 keepers. I have been able to put in players who I believe are well underpriced for what they can put out in Gawn/Grundy/Walsh/T Miller and I'll have at least 11 keepers play each of the early bye rounds so I'll only need to find 7 rookies to make up the 18 -

Backs - Stewart, Sheezel, H Youing, K Coleman, Curtin & Coffield (Gibcus/Pink)
Mids - Bont (C), Laird (VC), Butters, Walsh, Miller, McKercher, Watson & Sanders (Wilson/Sharp/Clark)
Rucks - Gawn/Grundy (Maley - R/F)
Forwards - MacCrae, Flanders, Comben (should be best 22 at CHB for Roos), Reid, Duursma & Mannagh (Cadman/Darcy)

Byes (missing keepers) -

Round 2 - miss Coleman/Walsh which'll leave 11 keepers.
Round 3 - miss Miller/Flanders which'll leave 11 keepers.
Round 5 - miss Grundy which'll leave 12 keepers.
Round 6 - miss Gawn which'll leave 12 keepers.
** I think most sides will start with 11-12 keepers.

Rookies like Reid/Curtin/McKercher/Sanders should all play so this will leave me needing to find 2 - 3 other rookies each round to give me 18 during the early byes.

I have left Williams out as he is injury prone however if he does well in 1st couple of rounds I can trade him in after their round 2 bye for someone like Comben. My 1st trade target will be Nick Daicos after their round 5 bye. I have gone cheaper up forward as I don't have much confidence of who will be top 6-10 forwards but I'm confident that I think MacCrae/Flanders should be top 10 forwards.

Good luck to everyone.

I'm running with this at the moment, would be interested to hear people's thoughts pertaining to the liking or disliking of it and would appreciate any suggestions as to how to improve the situation. Cheers in advance.
I only have 1100 bucks left.

Maybe
NWM to Coleman. I see similar returns.
Williams to Gibcus. Willaims. where does he fit into the Voss System.?
Allows a Guthrie upgrade.

Will the changes get you a Walsh at M5

Cheers Vic, all good points, was a bit concerned about starting too many early bye players and Gibcus's complicated hamstring issues, will mull it over, thanks again.
