WESTERN Bulldogs midfielder Bailey Smith will miss the 2024 season after injuring his ACL at training.
Smith suffered the injury on Wednesday in a devastating setback for the talented 23-year-old.
The No.7 pick in the 2018 AFL Draft, Smith had made an impressive start to pre-season, winning the Bulldogs' 2km time trial last month.
"We're all extremely disappointed for Bailey, and empathise with him greatly," Bulldogs executive director of football Chris Grant said.
"The entire club will rally around him during this difficult time, as he begins his rehab journey."
Smith, who has played 103 AFL games, is out of contract at the end of 2024.

I had heard the Hawks really wanted Smith in this year's trade period. Feel for him, and anyone who does an ACL, as missing a whole season really sucks. Possibly a bullet dodged for the club in not getting him though, as I am guessing the Hawks would have had to give up a fair bit to trade him in while still contracted.
I was considering him in SC too, as I expect he would have been good value. Back to the drawing board there.

There's a lot wrong in that article. Cracking down on run down tackles, keeping the sub rather than a 5th bench player, even banning coaches making noises from the bench which might interrupt the broadcast (yes, that's a bigger focus than a lot else that is wrong with the game). Finding the game less enjoyable every year.
