Who has the best rookies opening round teams.

Playing teams…SYD,MEL,BNE,CAR,SUNS,RICH, GWS,COLL.
Impossible to say, really.

Coll F Macrae
Melb M Hore
GWS A Cadman
Rich J Gibcus

all spring to mind, selection pending.
All circle work till Rd 0 teams known, just wait for that
Melb Matt Hore
Syd - James Jordon (mp)
Carlton - Williams (mp)
GWS (the little guy)

Amazing so much talk around trades levels when opening round remains the biggest issue. Law of small numbers suggest whatever plans we have , 70% will be influenced by OR score. If James Jordon scores 100 he will be in every side, 50, seeyalater buddy,

Potentially could get some red herrings if Grundy score 70 against Gawn then his ownership may drop.

Maybe it helps those going overall score. Gulden goes 120, suddenly he is in everyone side when those who are bye restrictive, gain 50 points down the line.

Difference may come down to structure, 11-13 premiums and level of mid pricers above Harley Reid's price.

Last comment, as a West Coast Eagles supporter, should I be happy or worried that post game simulation they are saying Reid is already our best player?

Worried for the near future, hopeful for the distant...

That’s interesting regarding OR. Do you see examples like the above as being a rational response to a cash generation tailwind, or an overreaction to (perhaps a simple extrapolation of) a single good score?

I could see the latter happening in some cases, but I don’t think that’s what you’re getting at (?).

I know that rookies at this point are basically placeholders but the number of times I have seen Cadman on the bench surprises me. As a developing key fwd his scoring last year was not unexpected and I am not sure it will get much better this year. I liken his development to the Bulldogs JUH. It will be several seasons before he starts putting up to handy scores.

More that the OR runs the risk of more teams the same. If its midpricer that goes bang and ownership goes from 12pct to 50pct then that may not be great. It could also see an outlier good or bad that will draw many teams in and if it is a trap/opportunity and you fade it or back it in (when others don’t), it could be beneficial. More the former the risk.

Potentially today many may say I will fade a premium player playing round 1 and then if he goes well and ownership surges, you benefit of you fade and the player reverts and then has a bye, that would be a positive.

Thanks for clarifying, that makes sense. I was thinking of a 70% weighting in the decision, as opposed to a potential 70% change in ownership.

I think there will be a significant benefit for coaches who can weight the OR information correctly.

Finding it hard to see how you could possibly start Daicos.

Round 1: Has Sydney who is his worst opposition (by average in his short career). 62 (Round 22, 2022), 76 (Prelim Final, 2022), 82 (Round 8, 2023). I believe he was tagged by Ryan Clarke in all 3 games. Important though to keep in mind these scores were when he was playing half back. I still find it very likely they send someone to him, given the success it’s had in the past.

Round 2: Plays St.Kilda where he has gone 98 in 2022 and 128 in 2023 (Round 5). May get a run-with from Steele or Windhager. If not, it’s a favourable matchup.

Round 3: Plays Brisbane who he scored 71 against in 2022, 151 in Round 4 last year, and 131 in the GF. Likes to play the Lions it seems. Dunkley, or even Neale, may pay some attention. If Dev Robertsen is given some CBA’s I wouldn’t be surprised if he follows him around. Once again, good matchup if he’s allowed to roam free.

Round 4: Will cop the Maginness tag which kept him to 41 in 3 quarters.

Round 5: Bye.

Round 6: They play Port who he scored 77 against in 2022. In 2023 he scored a 149 in Round 2, before being kept to 99 in Round 19. I remember they sent Willem Drew to him in that last game and I find it likely they’ll do the same again.

Will be quite the effort from Clarke to tag him while playing for the Waratah’s in the NTFL.

How many mid priced players is too much? (200-300k)
Who do you think will be the best option out of Chapman, Williams, Lynch, Fyfe, Harmes and Billings.
They are the 6 im considering.

I think he's a pretty reliable captain option for the majority of his first games so can see the appeal. I wouldn't worry about Windhager/Dunkley/Robertson/Drew or any of those guys trying to tag him. They'll probably keep him quiet at stoppage but can't see them being able to run with him. Only one in the whole league that could is probably Maginness.
