Welcome to another year of the Promotion and Relegation Leagues!

Most of you will be aware of how these works, being participants from last year, but it is expected there may well be some vacancies for new members this season. These are not official SCS leagues, if you are interested in joining an official league, I recommend joining in this topic.

The Promotion and Relegation leagues are a multi tiered system, where a successful year will see you promoted to a higher league for the next season and a poor year will see you relegated to a lower league for the next season. There are three tiers, and seven leagues overall, with each league containing 20 teams, one of which will be my own team (who will not be competing) to enable me to monitor the results. This structure is as follows:

Tier 1: League 1
Tier 2: League 2A, League 2B
Tier 3: League 3A, League 3B, League 3C, League 3D

Promotion and relegation at the end of the season will be based on results in finals, not regular season standings as follows:

Tier 1: The bottom 4 teams (17-20) will be relegated to Tier 2. Teams 13-16 will play off against teams 3-4 from the two Tier 2 leagues in the final week of the season to avoid relegation.
Tier 2: The two grand finalists in each league will be promoted. The two preliminary final losers in each league will play off against the teams ranked 13-16 from the top tier in grand final week for promotion. The bottom 4 teams (17-20) will be relegated to Tier 3. Teams 13-16 will play off against teams ranked 3-4 from the Tier 3 leagues in the final week of the season to avoid relegation.
Tier 3: The two grand finalists in each league will be promoted. The two preliminary final losers in each league will play off against the teams ranked 13-16 from Tier 2 in grand final week for promotion.

There will also be an Inter-League Cup held commencing in Rd 17 and running until Rd 24. This is a head to head knockout competition where you are matched up against teams from any league. Winners stay in the competition, losers are eliminated until there is only 1 team remaining. Highest scorer in each particular round moves on, in the case of a tie, the team to progress will be the team that scored higher of the two in the previous round.

I will send a PM to everyone with your league allocations shortly and a link to join for 2024. Please join your allocated league in a timely fashion, as league entries will close on Saturday 2nd March. Any teams that have not joined by this time will be replaced to ensure we have all leagues filled. I know at least one person has mentioned they will not be playing SC this season, and I expect there may be one or two others. I will open up any available spots to new participants on Sunday 3rd March.

I will confirm the 2024 league participants once all places have been filled.

Good luck to you all, and I hope this season is equally as enjoyable as the last one, if not more so.

Cheers for putting these together Hawk. If there are any available vacancies, I would be keen to fill any available spots when things have settled on the 3rd of March.
There will be at least two spots available from people who have said they are not playing this year, and possibly will be more.

I'll send a PM to anyone who expresses interest in joining on the 3rd March, and it will be first in who gets the league spots, so I can't guarantee you a spot.

For those in leagues already, and those who join, you will notice a snazzy logo for the league this year. These have been created by @Bermi, who I'm sure would be more than happy to create logos for any of your leagues as well if you ask him nicely. The full set of seven league logos are below.

And thank you @Ironhawk for creating these P & R Leagues, you do a great job.

@Juzzo, you picked the right font, I'm curious how you knew this font?

My job at the newspaper is mainly graphic design. I've designed and set hundreds of adverts over the years, quite a few fonts stick in my memory, that happens to be one of them. I remember using it for a pizza advert once!

Surely any gaps in the higher ranked leagues need to be offered to the next best team from the lower ranked leagues first. Doesn’t seem fair that somebody who didn’t participate last year can leap frog all those in the lower ranked leagues that did. Any new teams should start at the lowest level in my view.

Fair call. I'll still hold off on filling any gaps at higher levels for now in case these people do change their mind on not playing.

Just as an update, we have had 100 / 133 people join the various leagues so far, or approximately 3/4 of all people have already joined. Thanks for the quick action to all who have joined.

I have heard from 3 people so far that they are not/are unlikely to play this year, and I know of one other person who I don't expect to play from another post. Based on that, at this stage I am expecting that there will be a minimum of 4 new places that will open up this year, but this is still TBC.

Leagues update:

With less than 3 weeks remaining for sign ups, there are currently 21 people yet to sign up, three in each of the seven leagues, as follows:

League 1 (17/20) - Still to join: @bunlit, @Hot Thunder, @Lgndhen23
League 2A (17/20) - Still to join: @The Banker (unsure if participating), @walshjee, wogitalia
League 2B (17/20) - Still to join: @Johnsy44, mike89, @Termin8er789
League 3A (17/20) - Still to join: @Harmonic Nine, @James4, @kakarot
League 3B (17/20) - Still to join: @BarkingGhecko, @Dustman, @jarveg
League 3C (17/20) - Still to join: @aj74, nicohighscore, @Xman97
League 3D (17/20) - Still to join: @craig freer, @MilbusPilbus, @Socrates2

Names in italics above are confirmed to not be participating this season, so there are still currently 18 people I am waiting on to accept or decline the league invite.

If you are wanting to play this season and have yet to join, could you please join ASAP so that I can arrange to fill any vacancies prior to the season commencing? Alternatively if you are not wanting to play, could you please confirm this ASAP? Details of how to join the league you have been allocated have been sent to you via PM.

There will be at least two players moving from League 3 leagues into League 2 to backfill positions and at least three new sign ups required. I'll confirm the details of this in the coming weeks once all other sign ups are completed.

Thanks everyone. I'll update this again next week, hopefully with all/most spots filled.
