After a few years of being a pretty straight down the middle SC player, finishing in the top 1k but never making any significant move into the top echelon, it's time to get slightly saucy. Not drowning myself completely though, it feels like a pretty standard starting structure for this year, but the mid-priced madness as well as the commitment to guys like Hinge and Newcombe breaking out is pretty scandalous for my standards.
  • Newcombe to be Serong of 2023 🙏
  • Hinge to be Houston of 2023 🙏
  • Bont to start slow 🙏 Screen Shot 2024-02-28 at 11.15.38 pm.png

Balance: $430,000

I have been tinkering with this setup and I find it very appealing.
  • Flexibility to grab any premium that starts slowly
  • Cash generation in the midfield
  • Forward-lite, able to pivot due to cash holding.
I have been tinkering with the Rucks, but the bearded burbler reassured me against Carlton, he still has it for one last dance.

Thank you for taking time to read.

I like some of the picks - Short has my eye atm and your mid and ruck premiums look good.

My only worry is by only starting 10 premiums (4 of which have the early bye) could mean you’re giving up a lot of ground early. I’d probably look to start an 11th premium, as you probably don’t want to hold that much cash on a wait and see approach to the early rounds. Ideally you’d add a forward premium and even though he also has an early bye, I’d probably grab Flanders. Otherwise possibly someone like Steele in the mids (or better if you can afford it).

Thank you for the advice.

Agree with this. Need 11 prems at the very least, with 12 probably the sweet spot. A couple of hundred k in the bank is ok, over 400k is another prem.

Here's where I'm at leading into the weekend money tight but pretty happy with where its at.

Flanders - Fisher and Steele - a 650k type potentially the only couple changes I see on the horizon outside rookie carnage over the weekend.
Looks great … scarily similar to mine lol

Do you have the cash for Naismith at R3?

Latest team, brought in Naicos after his half of magic, replaced Flynn hammy with Marshall, Laird became Bont. Flanders became Greene.
Resisting the temptation of Jordon, Adams injury helps, Chad Warner didn't play, plus Mills and Parker missed too. Concerned Roberts could be a vest candidate with Lloyd and Rampe missing, Lohmann is an interesting one at 150k.
I dropped Reid and Mckercher too high priced, Reid has too many niggles and expectation, Mckercher will have stiff competition during the season proper with a stacked backline. Will have to see the job security with others selected, hence, my sizeable bank if required.

Spend some of that cash getting McKercher back in. Lunacy to start without him.

I’ll pull 50k out of Hustwaite who I’m not sure is any better than some of the proposed 123k guys if it looks like Nank doesn’t get up. Keenly aware that Naismiths body is mostly made up of paper mache and dreams though.

Might want to revisit the Georgiades pick believe that Hinkley has ruled both him and Sinn out of this weeks practice so doesn’t look good for playing round 1

Hustwaite is an interesting one. Hard to go in fairly cold on someone at $180k who wasn't a top 5 draft pick screaming 'pick me', but with Will Day out there is a role there if he's good enough.

My latest team sheet had him pushed to the bench at M9 which doesn't seem right. If that's how I go, I'll probably roll him down to a cheaper rookie to use the cash elsewhere.

Thanks, we'll aware 😁, due to his price, can be easily flipped to a 123k type. I think Ken is assessing if Soldo and Sweet can play in the same team. Finlayson usually a lock is out too. So I'll be interested to see how things pan out.

Is Steele at M6 batting too deep? Presently have Fisher at F1.
Quite possibly. Depends on rookies for me.

6 premos in the mids means you've probably only got 5 premos across the other lines, yeah? 2 of them in the ruck? So 4 non premo backs and 5 non-premo forwards? That's a lot of back and forward rookies you're fielding when your 3rd midfield rookie will be sitting on the bench scoring 60s and 70s maybe

If the MPs and rookies you've got on those other lines can outperform your 3rd midfield rookie, then yeah, you aren't losing points at the start, even with Steele at M6. There's a lot of robbing Peter to pay Paul in our starting lineups

Edit: just reread your post and saw Fisher at F1. Yeah I don't like it though I'll admit to maybe never rating Fisher enough
