I would be surprised if this isn’t the team that runs out for opening round for Melbourne;

B: McVee, May, Tomlinson
HB: Rivers, Lever, Bowey
C: Windsor, Petracca, Langdon
HF: ANB, JVR, Fritsch
F: Chandler, Schache, Laurie
R: Gawn, Oliver, Viney
I: Salem, Billings, Sparrow, Howes

Whose spot is Laurie keeping warm you think? Straight out for Kozzy week 2?

Yeah, I would say that the worst performed of Laurie or Chandler will make way for Pickett come round 1.

There's a chance that both could stay in the team with Howes making way too. We would still have the seven defenders with Salem playing HB.

My team looks so much better with Oliver sitting in the midfield. A few things to way up before I decide if he will stay there or not though. Anyone else looking to run with him early on?
I would much prefer to get a look at him for a few weeks before contemplating picking him. I think he could be a tad rusty until he gets his fitness base up to scratch.

Clearly the match committee have decided that a near fully fit Oliver is still best 22 and can't blame them really.

But is it worth wasting two trades on, rather than one, for perceived reassurance that he is fine? What scoring level determines whether we should jump on and what is the exit plan if he is injured immediately after his inclusion or in the early rounds. What is the worst case scenario of starting Williams and does this greatly impact the spend on other lines? Do we leave enough cash in reserve to fix a rookie for Williams on the bubble or will a failed mid priced selection make way?
All very valid points.
Probably going to go down the cash reserve fix rookie path (as he is only a quick $ maker) with 1 trade. May get a look at him this weekend . đź«°

To be honest, even as I was writing, the thought that crossed my mind is that he is prob a prime sub candidate in the first or second game, depending on how things are going. On paper makes my team stronger, but that isn't always an accurate representation of the state of play unfortunately.

Every time I make a team trying to fade English and Bont, they always just tell me that's not a good idea.

Laird is the only $700k player I picked last year and bled $100k to RD 9 where you could've picked him up for under $600k.

Both guys dropped a sub 100 score before round 9 last year.

Does anyone have both in their team? Are we wise to fade both? I promised myself I wouldn't pick anyone over $700k again to start but there's also no telling when these guys will have their floor score.
History suggests you should fade one and pick the other, though you might get away with fading both.

Hustwaite will be the first out once Will Day returns unfortunately…. Don’t think he has the job security to warrant paying for compared to others similarly priced…
Have Hawthorn given a timeline on Day’s return? Will Hustwaite have enough time to make good money scoring 80-90s every week until Day comes back?
Definitely agree that he’s not worth the pick if he’s out of the team after a couple of weeks.

Theres absolutely no chance Im paying 670K for a bloke who looks a mile off fitness wise, they've clearly concluded the best method is for him to just gain fitness from playing footy but I have no interest in picking him while they do it.

Management across the first 4 to 6 weeks feels obvious, even to the point that I wouldn't be surprised if they sub him out.
