Re morabito, I'm waitin for more of the preseason to pass to see what sort of js te likes of hrovat md Menzel have. I think staker is popular in these draft teams cos we rnt so aware of fwd rookies. And with Daniher having surgery it's worse lol.

I'm gonna be considering Ablett at $740,500, but I'll have to make sure that I have enough cash, otherwise he will be one of my early upgrade targets.

As you noted he only had two scores under 100 in a WHOLE SEASON! Next sentence you're saying, hopefully he scores a few under 100 in the first 4 games?!? Seems an awfully large gamble.
Your right, it is a very large gamble... but sometimes in supercoach you just need to roll the dice to come out on top. You can go the safe option but that will just throw you mid-pack... a gamble will either work really well and get a real good start, or it could fail, but even if it did it wouldn't be disastrous.

For what its worth, I will likely be starting with Ablett... the above paragraph was just mainly about supercoach gambles in general.

Couldn't agree more, but there is a difference between a reckless gamble and a calculated risk. You need to make the RIGHT gamble to succeed in sc.

Jay went almost half a season without gaz
You cant really count Jays year because the 1st half of 2011 was his 1st with gold coast, it took time for him to adapt and he scored poorly, until mid year where from memory i think he scored 180 against Adelaide and after that never looked back and averaged around 140 for the rest of the year. I am unsure whether i will have ablett in my starting line up but have done a good old pros and cons list

Pros
Likely to have the highest average of any player in 2013
Consistent and can be used a perma captain
Generally durable only had a few minor injuries
Cons
Most expensive and 65k dearer than next player (pendlebury)
He will turn 29 this year
With players like Bennell, Swallow, McKenzie, Prestia, Shaw, Matera etc emerging the responsibility will be shared and he will not be relied on as much
Low chance of improving average

Lock ... no real further explanation needed but here goes ...

He has the best history over his career of any supercoach player ever ...

No one will take points off him ...

He has dominated SC at both a top team in Geelong and a bottom team now as well ...

He is a ball magnet ...

Perfect Captain lock every week ...

The extra you price is off set by the captain factor in part .... he averages 12 points more then Swan even.

Current plan is not to start with Gazza but look to trade him in at some point. This is betting on a solid price drop.

There are two things that will change my mind.

(1) How the Suns and Gazza shape up in the pre-season. No hesitation in starting him last year since he looked in super hot form and I had no doubt that the Suns would struggle last year.

(2) The overall risk/reward of my SC team. Not starting Gazza is a big risk/reward play since the downside is large. If the rest of my team also shapes up as risky, then more likely to play Gazza to reduce the overall risk/reward profile. (I won't start putting a team together for a few months yet. Need to cogitate and stew first.)

"What? Paul McCartney was in a band before Wings?"

Or for the younger kids

"What? Dave Grohl was in a band before the Foo Fighters?"

Anyone thinking that the natural improvement at GCS is going to start ripping points from Ablett needs to look at how he went with the players in that other mob he played with. In fact, the big question when he went to the Suns was how he was going to perform without those legends around him.

Those last 3 years at Geelong had him averaging 134 ppg. He's priced at 139 and hasn't shown any hint of slowing down and until he does, I'm going to keep picking him. When he does slow down, it could be epic. But at 28 years old he still has a bit of zip, a tonne of power and great reflexes. Perfect for his style. He's also a year younger than Swan iirc so remember that if you are ignoring him for his age alone.

One day the great man will decline but hopefully by then he will be listed as a M/F.
