Need this round to end

Back to :-

McKercher - > Graham
King - > Comden

Build the war chest , be patient for 2-3 rounds , then try and take advantage of the fallen premiums (if the cash and timing is right)
Add Sanders - > Garcia

Already used 14 trades and just think I have been shuffling the deckchairs.

12 premiums + Meek & Powell

Oh well , it is what it is

Rankine has been the plan for me next week, liked what I saw after Nicks said he wanted to change up the midfield last week, this weeks comments are an affirmation.

I'd wait on McAuliffe until you see him named for round 8, Hopper and Prestia are close to returning
It’s either him, Nyuon or Drury.

Think Nyuon is straight out for Dawson but I didn’t get to watch him last week. There’s 5 guys in the VFL who could easily take Drury’s spot if he has a bad game or two. Still not overly confident in McAuliffe but I’m more confident in him than the alternatives.

Nic Martin at 560k, still worth the add/value? Or can also add Young at 550k. Unfortunately no mids I want at that price (563k available).

Or the sub 450k forward options like Rankine or Powell - both seem to represent value/upside?

You're in a tough spot. Gawn might be the best player this year but also stalls your upgrade cadence. And English looks a shadow of 2023. Whatever you do won't feel like a win. As much as it hurts to watch Gawn I think Marshall is a good pick and you could slingshot English to Gawn during the next lot of byes.
I am the kiss of death at the moment! ☹️

Hmmmm...swinging the magnets around since we all got Bevo'd tonight.

Sanders > Graham (check)
Carrol > Comben (check)

Now just need to decide between:

McKercher > Rowell
McKercher > Young
D'Ambrossio > Ryan

Leaning towards Rowell at this stage, as it seems like he will be in the top 8 mids this year. Would love to get Ryan in the team as he's been skyrocketting and could hit $700k plus, but don't feel great about jumping off Ambro. Young looks like the best value option, but is he guaranteed to be a top 6 defender?

Traded out Sanders. 440k in the bank. Can get anyone for anyone. Would really like a fwd. Can take Heeney or Cameron. Tempted to get him at a cheaper price.

Would like some Saints fans opinions on Garcia.

I love the look of him. Think he has a big future ahead of him but what is his JS like at the present?

A big loss tonight so Ross might make a statement and cull a few. Garcia I don’t think deserves to be in that group but it’s a possibility. Looking at the injury list, there’s a few coming back:

Crouch 3-4 weeks
Henry 3-4 weeks
Wood 2 weeks
Webster Round 8
Paton 1-2 weeks
Clark 1-2 weeks
Dow Test
King Test (didnt play tonight obviously so likely next week)

Does he actually survive that? I’m struggling to see it personally.

I thought the other Garcia had a cracking game. The Saints one had 9 tackles but like you I think his stay in the Saints team will be temporary.

I thought Hugo Garcia had a very solid game, ran hard/ tackled hard/ didn’t look out of place at all.

Zac Jone looks done, Butler did a hammy, Phillipou was poor again tonight, there were a few other saints that looked very ordinary to me.

Let's assume King, Paton, and Webster all don't affect Garcia. Although some magnets may be thrown around and affect him, I'll make that assumption. That leaves us with Crouch, Henry, Wood, Clark, and Dow. I don't know how highly the Saints rate Dow, but with a very interrupted preseason I'd say he has a decent stint in the VFL before coming into consideration for the AFL team, so I'll cross him off too.

Henry and Wood are both wingers, so Byrnes is probably dropped. Jones is a safe bet to be gone I think, doesn't look anything like his old self.

Now there's just Crouch and Clark left. I think both will have 1-2 games at least in the VFL. Not counting Butler as he wasn't in the 22 (sub). Phillipou had a poor game tonight. Hasn't been terrible to start the season but I'm sure the fans would've wanted more. Sharman is similar to Phillipou, doing a bits and pieces but hasn't been exceptional. Don't know how highly they rate his versatility, can play multiple roles if a player goes down early and magnets need to be swung around. Don't think they'll drop Seb Ross.

Tough one to figure out. Will have the scoring potential and a nice floor, just has to find a way to keep his spot.

Leaves me $ 537,400.00 in the Bank.

Majority of that will need to be used to upgrade D'Ambrosio , H Reid , Roberts , Sharp & Williams.

Still will need to upgrade Clohesy (most likely) Comben , Graham and Meek.

Where will that 💰 come from ? 🤔

Bench is :-

Brown , Z Reid
Wilson , Garcia , Sharp
Livingstone
Cadman , Campbell

Who/when will those downgrades appear ?

Interesting time ahead

I traded Garcia in this week, but I think his job security is pretty poor. I don’t rate Zak Jones, but I do rate Paddy Dow. I’d bring Dow in after 1 good VFL game (assuming he’s playing VFL this weekend)

If Garcia ends up a M/F donut though I’m not annoyed, hence the early trade in.

Rookies I finding the toughest part of this game compared to most other formats. Rookies seem to have clearly defined roles and are not stuck behind others in the depth chart due to experience, etc whereas I feel too often LIFO (Last In, First Out) is in play for AFL. Didn’t watch any of the match but seems he would be hard pressed after registering 9 Tackles (team high- Windhager and Steele the only other Saints over 3). If he is, then it is tough to understand what the message may be if they make several/mass changes, if the same few keep getting by on form from yesteryear, on the hope they eventually turn it around.

This point is key and why I went early on him instead of a Drury/Nyuon/McAuliffe.
