Rnd 1 Rank 36,171.
That was my best ranking until this round.
I fell to 65,381 in Rnd 11.
Finally surpassed my Rnd 1 rank, and am sitting 35,565. :poop:
My average C score is 116!

Our SCS Group/League has 213 teams in it.
Before this Round I was 187/213.
I scored 2,351 for the Round, which was 116/213.
Better than 97 teams in the Group/League.
Yet I still fell to 189th!!!!! o_O:mad::oops::eek:

My late changes to my VC/Capt choices the last 2 weeks have cost me 280 points... I would be ranked 42nd overall not 185th if I had just kept to my original choices :cry:
Looks like you are removing the score of the player that was captain from your side.

Equation is = (Captain x 2)+ Player that would have been Captain

For example when you selected Merrett over Bont per your comment in the RD16 review thread which means 78+ 78+ 157 = 313 rather than 157 + 157 + 78= 392 for a 79 point loss instead of a 158 point loss 78 + 78= 156 vs 157+ 157= 314.

Merrett over Bont last week + Bont/Serong VC/Capt combo over Zerrett/Gawn VC/Combo this week (went Bont/Serong - was going Gawn but very late change)

As @Connoisseur suggested that’s only costing you 140 points not 280. However I suspect that doesn’t ease your pain that much.

Round 16: Bont 157 x 2 (capt) = 314 / Merrett 78 x 2 (capt) = 156. Difference : 158 points

Round 17: Merrett 145 x 2( as VC, would take as capt score obviously) = 290 / Serong 84 x 2 = 168. Difference : 122 points

158 + 122 = 280 points lost.

Nobody to blame but myself

Merrett (C)= 145+ 145+ 84= 374
Serong (C)= 84+ 84+ 145= 313
61 points lost and plus RD16 (79) would be 140 points lost instead of 280.

Sorry but that is not right. Nominating a different captain only changes your 23rd score. So it is (Bont-Merrett) x 1 + (Merrett-Serong) x 1.

Whilst Bedford and Cameron had their suspensions overturned on a technicality, this still doesn't mean that the AFL will get any message from this. If anything, they will tighten the screws on their tribunal hearings to ensure that these 'errors of law' don't occur.

I have been an admirer of 'our great game' for as long as I can remember and grew up in the 80's enjoying the VFL, at that time. watching the Bombers win their flags as a kid was one of the best memories ever, especially 84'.

The game has needed to evolve in so many ways from the zoning selections that gave teams like Hawthorn, premium players from the Mornington Peninsula (little dig there), to the draft, to the development of the AFL from the stale VFL, which was going to see many teams fold. It's been great to watch, but the game now is now falling over it's tipping point...

Watching the first half of the State of Origin (game I generally despise) on Wednesday, made me realise that this wonderful unique game that we all love is becoming a mess. That first half was what a game of contact sport should be like. V'landys would have laughed at the AFL during the week, and would have been ROTFL after Wednesday.

I understand where the AFL are coming from, a legal POV, to protect their integrity after all the cases that are in front of them atm with concussion, but the nuances of our game are being destroyed. I played Union when at Uni, and whilst they're going through their own pain in Australia, I think I might turn back there to watch a true, real game of contact sport, if the AFL doesn't start to be pragmatic with its approach to the game.

The AFL can rave about attendances etc, but the game as many of us know it is turning into a farcical!! What would people like Captain Blood be saying about this game now...

I love this game, but let's just start playing touch footy, maybe it best for all.

"All sports are really difficult to officiate, but I think our sport is one of the hardest ones.(1)

"What our focus on is actually just preparing our umpires and making sure we get the processes right and continue to umpire as well as we can.

"It's as good as it's ever been, the umpiring.(2)

"We're in the second year on the four-umpire system as well, so we're on a journey with the four-umpire system." (3)

Dillon said the recent focus on umpiring decisions was a by-product of the closeness of the league.

"The competition is so tight," he said.

"I don't understand why, but there's always been a focus on umpiring — I'm pretty old and it has been around for as long as I've been around and will continue to be.(4)

I am somewhat perplexed by the comments of Dillon in this ABC sport article (this is not the full article and I have cut this segment out in one piece and the numbering is mine)

(1) If it is so difficult why do the AFL continue to introduce more rules and change rule interpretations (often mid season)? It does nothing simplify the game and creates confusion and anger amongst almost everyone in the game. It makes the umpires job so much tougher and makes them the target of abuse. Well done AFL.

(2) If it is good as it has ever been why is everyone talking about the issues with umpiring? As a measuring stick surely no conversation about umpiring or complimentary comments would be the best result.

(3) So the current conversation could infer that umpiring has not improved with the 4 umpire system. So what is next? The 6 umpire system? Umpires IMO need a method of applying the rules that is as simpler and clear as possible. More umpires may pick up some behind play or blind side incidents but does not make the decision they need to make in the millisecond timeframe required any simpler.

(4) He does not understand why there has always been a focus on umpiring. Really? The CEO of the AFL does not understand why umpires and their decisions are the focus of so many people. Whether that focus is fair or reasonable can be questioned but surely you should understand how people can believe so much can hang on the decisions umpires make. A slight condescending smell wafting around that statement.
All valid points, The AFL can't expect any umpire to micro manage a NEW rule change during a season, and the fact they force that on their employees, the umpires, doesn't help anyone! Even their mini management week to week, is crazy! 1 week the hot topic is holding the ball, the next week it's 15 metre kicks, and so it goes on! Even football clubs train all pre season with game plans so they can understand how to play it, umpires should be afforded the same rights! AFL is a difficult sport to understand and umpire, but the continuous tinkering they have done to it over the last 10/20 years really has diminished it as a spectacle!
Sure we still get some high flying marks, but so many players don't jump for the ball now because of this unrealistic intent!
The stand rule is an absolute farce of a rule! Just this week, players making the perfect tackle only to fall foul of laws because of accidental contact! All these new rules meant to improve the game, to me at least, have taken away from the fabric of the game that I grew up with!
I can still see the game I grew up with but it is definitely getting harder to watch not easier!
The AFL would get greater kudos for coming out and saying there are errors and we will continue to learn and educate on interpretations with both umpires and players.
When the AFL come out with lavish statements like the one above or when the footy boss said the no 50 metre ruling made in the Collingwood north game was a correct call….. we lose all respect for those in charge of our once great game…
I think it's still a hang up with not wanting to bag umpires surely! They are so afraid of losing umpires and of not wanting to admit that they get things wrooo, wroooo, wronnnn, Heyyyyy! (insert double thumbs up ala 'The Fonz")
Which actually shows a poorer understanding of the realities of todays world! With so many problems happening in the game, whether forced on the game or not, you will never win the people that support the game if you don't bring them with you. And to do that, they need to be up front, admit the flaws and faults of the game, problem solve to fix them and bring everyone with them in a community spirit uniting way! Unfortunately the current administration (and under Gil) do not feel the need to involve the whole community, and the game seems to be a by product of their choices!
Jordan Dawson. I won't bother expressing how I feel about him right now as it will all be censored.

Started to reply in Rd 19 games thread, probably better here 🤣 refers to Yeo being out.
It's his fathers funeral on Monday so they might not want to risk him not being able to fly home after the match like Gov the other week.
Out with "soreness".

Hopefully just the 1 week I guess.
Mental soreness then! 🤷‍♂️

Completely understand if he needs time off, we are all entitled to that but…
I’m not sure this is a good look for the AFL that they just can’t come out and say personal reasons.
Why even mention injury as the reason for being out?
We recently lost a friend, closer to the wife than me, but with no funeral, no opportunity to have a remembrance with other fellow friends seemed sad and odd. No public announcement of it either which just created another layer of confusion. So we’re all left wondering! We heard from a mutual friend that day but didn’t want to be pushy if you know what I mean. Only being contacted weeks later by a ‘family friend’ after her passing to hear what was going on!
But the AFL, with players having bigger public profiles needs to be better!
So, why not let us know he is taking the week off to remember his father. As is his right! Makes a clear and simple statement, that no one should question, causes no ill will for anyone and lets Yeo, in this instance, grieve as he wants.
Why play a silly game of being named injured at team selection, of having plane watchers stating Yeo is not on the plane, other players on the flight, etc. I can understand he may of wanted time to decide but they also have those connections with the media to let everyone know early enough whats going on!
Goes to @Manikato1 post in the Rant thread about keeping it simple!
The umpires are under the pump because the powers that be, can’t keep it KISS!
The AFL needs come out of the closet if it wants us all to come with it!
Its a public driven industry, it allegedly funnels $$$millions into grassroots football, it just needs to be better, more transparent, clearer in its communications.

A simple clearer rule change to make it easier for the umpires to take the burden from them somewhat, so they can umpire the game!
Ball ups around the ground, stop asking for a nominated ruck, the rule is simple (KISS) only 2 players, 1 each from the opposing teams are allowed to contest the ruck, if a third player contests, award the free against! Why trouble the umpires with asking whose up, by not asking the question it gives the umpires a few extra minutes to help refocus!

Thought it might be a really fun, and interesting exercise to showcase how well the VC/C options have gone this year.

Rd 1: 135 captain score (VC Daicos)
Rd 2: 136 captain score (C Bont, VC Daicos failed)
Rd 3: 110 captain score (C Bont - VC Daicos failed)
Rd 4: 109 captain score (C Tom Green - VC Butters failed)
Rd 5: 138 captain score (VC Gawn)
Rd 6: 127 captain score (C Butters, VC Marshall failed)
Rd 7: 162 captain score (VC Gawn)
Rd 8: 111 captain score (C Gawn, VC Sheezel failed)
Rd 9: 135 captain score (C Bont, VC Gawn failed)
Rd 10: 127 captain score(C Butters, VC Ryan failed)
Rd 11: 119 captain score, (C Merrett, VC Serong failed)
Rd 12: 156 captain score (VC Daicos)
Rd 13: 132 captain score (C Gawn, VC Bont failed)
Rd 14: 141 captain score (VC Zorko)
Rd 15: 135 captain score (C Merrett, VC Gawn failed)
Rd 16: 116 captain score (C Daicos, VC Zorko failed)
Rd 17: 84 captain score (C Serong, VC Bont failed)

In 17 rounds so far, my VC score has failed to yield a captainable result from 12/17 rounds. There have only been 5 rounds this year, in which I have taken a 120+ VC score.

In the 12 games that I have had to pick a captain because the VC failed, my captain average is 120.

With the VC scores I have taken, they have been popular VC choices and have not necessarily netted any serious gain over competitors. (50%+ VC)

In the 12 games that I have had to pick a captain, 50% of them (6) have resulted in a score of less than 120.

Very much looking forward to getting back to a fantasy format where it isn't a complete and utter coin flip every week.
Updates:

Rd 18: 103 captain score (C Dunkley, VC Bont failed)
Rd 19: Unknown (C Butters, VC Merrett failed)

Will be back later to update this when Butters scores far below his projected 136 to continue the tradition of poor captain scores.

That's premature Erantulation ;)
