AFL R23 injury update: Young Roo touch-and-go for Dogs

North Melbourne star Harry Sheezel is touch-and-go to play in Sunday's clash with Western Bulldogs due to an ankle injury suffered against West Coast on Saturday

North Melbourne star Harry Sheezel is touch-and-go to play in Sunday's clash with Western Bulldogs due to an ankle injury suffered against West Coast on Saturday.

The No.3 picked up the injury in the first half at Blundstone Arena, but managed to play out the contest, finishing with 31 disposals and two goals.

"Harry suffered an ankle injury while attempting to smother a ball with his foot," North Melbourne head of performance Kevin White told NMFC Media.

"He has been put in a moonboot to offload that foot for conservative management and to enable greater recovery."

Defender Zac Fisher is ready to go for the weekend having missed the past three AFL games due to a foot complaint.

"Zac has had a strong 10-day period where he has been in group training and functioning at a high level," White said.

"He trained today and will look to press his case once again on Thursday."

Tough onballer George Wardlaw has passed through concussion assessments after sustaining a head knock against Geelong in Round 20.

The second-year Roo trained with the group on Tuesday.

"Providing he pulls up well from Thursday's main session, he'll be up for selection this weekend," White said.

After missing last weekend's clash with West Coast, Dylan Stephens (ankle) will look to prove his fitness so he can reclaim his spot in the side that will face the Western Bulldogs on Sunday.

"Dylan had a good on-field session on Tuesday in re-loading post-ankle sprain," White said.

"He will test his top-end function at training on Thursday in pushing for selection this weekend."

Ruckman Hamish Free (concussion) "is still in non-contact training protocols" and has been ruled out for the remainder of the campaign.

RD23 Injury Update: Treacy, Darcy, Walters

Injury updates on Josh Treacy, Sean Darcy, Michael Walters, Max Knobel, Oscar McDonald and Ollie Murphy

Fremantle High-Performance Manager Phil Merriman has declared that key forward Josh Treacy will be a test to play in the Club’s crucial clash with GWS on Saturday.

Treacy, who missed the weekend’s loss to Geelong with a knee injury, has made solid progress in his recovery.

However, Merriman confirmed that the star forward's availability would be determined later in the week.

“He’s going well. We are going to see how his knee tracks throughout the week and make a call on his availability later on,” Merriman said.

In a similar vein, Merriman confirmed that ruckman Sean Darcy would also be a test to play against GWS following the 203cm big man’s late withdrawal at the weekend after not making it through his final fitness test.

“Sean had a little bit of knee soreness after the Essendon game,” Merriman said.

“He carried through the week quite well, but unfortunately, he just couldn’t get going (on gameday).

“He will be a test to play this week, but again, we will see how he tracks during the week.”

In positive news for the Club, veteran forward Michael Walters (hamstring) and recruits Oscar McDonald (knee) and Ollie Murphy (abdomen) have overcome their injuries.

“Sonny (Walters) is going really well,” Merriman said.

“As I’ve been saying, he’s going to be fit when he comes back, and he will be available this week.

“The two key backs (McDonald and Murphy) are ready to go and will be available this week on managed minutes.

“It will be great to see them back out there.”

Meanwhile, developing ruck Max Knobel will also be a test to play following the heavy collision he sustained during Peel Thunder’s Reserves loss to South Fremantle.

Jackson might be the main ruck again this week

So glad I loaded on Blues in my fwd line (Charlie and McKay) because they had an easy run and should hit a reasonable avg...

More and more this is reading like he might miss this week, why risk him in a game he'll get mauled in by Xerri with finals on the horizon..
I know he’s confirmed missing now, but with GWS the last round, winning against North is pretty darn important to their finals hopes! Must be bad if he’s not pushing to play.

Absolutely.. although they might feel they are a chance to beat North regardless and want to have him as good as possible vs Briggs. The reality is Xerri is in such incredible form that an injured English vs him is the mother of all liabilities. He may have gotten up vs a lesser ruck but the risk was too great against a strong opponent.
