I get it, and can see the arguments for Melbourne getting another top 10 pick, on reflection it's trading next year's R1 for this year after everything plays out, so closer to 50/50. Still think the Bombers did better getting Kako and another R1 for next year, but depends what they do with that. Think there's going to be a few good free agents available next year which early picks could be useful for. Won't know for a few years I guess.

We get two average players and pick 12. Not sure that solves our problems. What was in that for Carlton? They give up two first round picks for pick 3. I thought this draft was supposed to have depth so they must have something specific in mind to want pick 3 for two other first round picks. Tigers the winners here. First round pick at 14 for Baker is a steal IMO.

Not sure Carlton did well out of that trade with Hawthorn (pick 14 for F1 and F2). Got pick 3 in the end, but gave up a lot for it when you factor that in.

Agree Tigers look the winner of this trade.

I fell like GC got nothing. Noble is bog ordinary and 2025 FR picks will likely be pretty low down the order.
I’d guess this came with getting Lukosius's $1m+ a year salary off the books (and Atkins) which is probably what they were chasing given Hardwick didn’t seem to want to pick him at times this year.

So many people are saying the draft is even...

Does that mean that none of them are much good so any top 20 pick is about the same as any other? Or they are all so good that you want as many as you can get?

2020 top 10... Jamarra, Thilthorpe, Phillips, Logan McD, B Campbell, DGB, Hollands, Cox, Perkins, Reid. Meh.

2019 top 10... Rowell, Anderson, Jackson, Ash, D Stephens, McAsey, Young, Serong, Henry, Tom Green (with Flanders, K Pickett and Day straight after)

If it's a 2020 draft, trading pick 3 for pick 12 and some players is probably fine.

If it's a 2019 draft, you have rocks in your head.

Ch 7 Perth reporting Eagles CEO Don Pyke advising fans need to be patient and there is more to come on the trading front. Assuming he is talking about the Barrass deal. Hawthorn have no decent picks left this year so it looks like they could only offer future picks. If that is the deal it could possibly be part of a long term plan to get Chad Warner.

Meanwhile thinking about the Liam Baker trade the Eagles recruitment team may have just added a heap of pressure onto Baker and new coach McQualter. IMO the horrible Tim Kelly trade has Eagles fan very wary of ever wanting to pay too much for a player again. If Baker just becomes a meh midfielder this trade will be viewed as another epic fail (as opposed to just being a crazy trade as it is at the moment). McQualter, with his prior association to the Tigers and Baker, will be tagged in as complicit is this trade and could share a chunk of the fans displeasure. And this will be at a time as a first season coach you want to be convincing the fans you have what it takes to be a successful coach.

On the other hand if Baker suddenly morphs into the Bont then everyone will laughing.

The consensus seems to be that this draft is even but at a high quality level, so the drop off after the first few picks isn't as pronounced. But a lot of that is speculation, and safe to say the draft pundits have gotten it wrong plenty of times before!

Going to end up with 4-6 Richmond rookies to pick for round 1. Once they offload Rioli and Bolton they could have (Picks) 1, 6, 10, 11, 18, 20, 23, 24.
Surely they would look at bundling picks and offering them either for picks next year or a player. Not sure any clubs are looking for extra points to be able to get another top 10 pick this year which is the other option. I wouldn't expect they'd draft in 8 players.

One of the sites I was reading said they had 5 picks inside the Top 20 in 2004

1 Deledio
4 Tambling (Franklin went 5)
12 Meyer
16 Pattison
20 Polo

I gather talent identification , pathways etc has come along way since then but still no guarantee

Going to be hard to replace the likes of Baker , Bolton , Graham , Grimes , Martin , Pickett , Rioli etc

Probably not what Yze was expecting when he signed on.

Not much has happened all week in trade week. It's the same every year.

Hawks giving up their first round pick to Carlton for a future first and second today is kind of interesting, might help get a few other trades over the line... on Wednesday.

Possibly doesn't help the Hawks getting Barrass though.
Nobody wants the Hawks first round pick (Pick 14). It has gone from Hawthorn to Carlton to Richmond to Fremantle so far. Be interesting to see who eventually gets chosen with this pick.
